Problem Statement: Ms Brown has two potted plants in her apartment. One plant is on the
dining table away from the window, while the other is on the kitchen ledge in direct sunlight.
She waters both plants at the same time in the morning before she leaves for her two weeks’
vacation. After her vacation, she observes that the leaves started to wilt on the plant in the
kitchen, while the other plant on the dining table shows no sign of wilting.
Hypothesis: A plant that is exposed to direct sunlight will wilt opposed to a plant that does
not experience direct sunlight.
Aim: To observe if a plant will wilt if exposed to too much direct sunlight opposed to a plant
that does not experience direct sunlight.
Apparatus/Material: Tomato plants, soil, plant pots, water, crucible, spatula, beaker.
Method:
Results: The plant that received direct sunlight during the two weeks wilted. On the other
hand, the plant that did not receive direct sunlight did not show signs of wilting. This happens
because when there is too much sunlight, it can cause the soil to lose water quickly, resulting
in the wilting of the plant in direct sunlight.
Limitation/Source of Error: Within the two weeks that the experiment was being carried
out, there was no sign of sunlight.
