Model CAB-BATT/R
Battery Box

INTRODUCTION The Model CAB-BATT/R Battery Box from Siemens Industry, Inc., is used to house
BTX-2 (55AH) batteries for MXL Systems; BTX-2 (55AH) batteries and BTX-3 (100AH)
batteries for FireFinder-XLS/Desigo Fire Safety Modular/Cerberus PRO Modular
Systems; and 100AH battery sets for the FS-250 and FS-250C Systems. The CAB-
BATT is black and the CAB-BATT-R is red. The CAB-BATT-R will be referred to in the
remainder of this document as the CAB-BATT.

The CAB-BATT consists of a door and a backbox, as shown in Figure 1. The door is
permanently hinged left.

The battery box can be placed on the floor directly underneath the fire panel enclo-
sure to which it supplies battery backup or it can be mounted on a flat surface with
four user-supplied bolts that are a maximum of 3/8 inch in diameter. When used for
Seismic applications, the battery box must be placed on the floor and mounted to the
wall as described on page 2.

Install the battery box: 1. Select a clean, dry, shock and vibration free surface in a protected environment.
2. Position the battery box directly beneath the fire panel enclosure to which it
will be wired. (Knockouts in the battery box may be needed to line up with
the knockouts in the fire panel enclosure.)
3. Position the battery box so that it is clear of obstructions and the front door
opens freely.
4. Mark the locations of the two upper mounting bolts of the battery box
(marked “A”) on the wall. (Refer to Figure 2.)

For installations using 100 AH batteries, mark, drill, and install the bottom
bolt in the backbox marked “D”, as shown in Figure 2.
9. Tighten all bolts securely against the back wall of the battery box.
10. Place the batteries in the bottom of the CAB-BATT.
11. To complete the installation for Seismic applications, refer to the CAB-55
BRKT and CAB-100 BRKT Installation Instructions, P/N 315-050547.

WIRING
The main AC power line must be turned OFF prior to installation.

Install Wiring Wire in accordance with local codes and NEC 760.

1. Remove the knockouts in the top of the battery box and bottom of the fire
panel enclosure for entry of battery wiring.
2. Connect the Battery Wire Assembly to the batteries in the CAB-BATT. If a
longer wire is required, use a minimum of 12 AWG. For FireFinder-XLS/Desigo
Fire Safety Modular/Cerberus PRO Modular, use P/N 465-633943, supplied
with the PSC-12 (Refer to Figure 4 and the PSC-12 Installation Instructions, P/
N 315-033060.) For FS-250 or FS-250C use the Battery Cable Assembly
supplied with the FS-250 / FS-250C hardware kit (Refer to Figure 5). For MXL,
use P/N 555-149033 supplied with the MMB-3 (Refer to Figure 6).
Battery Connections When BTX-1, BTX-2 or BTX-3 batteries are required, connect them to the system with
the Battery Cable Conversion Kit, P/N 545-634222, following the steps listed below.

1. Using the 12 in. long wire assembly, connect the two batteries together, as
shown in Figure 3. Secure each end of the assembly to the battery with a
10-32 x 3/4” screw and lock nut.
2. Attach the quick disconnects to the positive and negative battery terminals
with the 10-32 x 3/4” screws and lock nuts supplied.
3. Attach the red battery wire to the quick disconnect on the positive terminal
and the black battery wire to the quick disconnect on the negative terminal.
