HOW TO PREVENT POOP FROM STICKING TO THE

TOILET BOWL?
Have you ever finished doing your ~business~ and noticed that some of it is left on
the toilet bowl? Now imagine that that same night you are at a friend’s or relative’s
house and it happens. The dreaded stain on the bowl. You have two options:
 Pretend nothing happened (not recommended)
 Embarrass yourself in front of your host and all their guests and ask for a
brush to clean it yourself.

Poop sticking on the toilet bowl is nothing to be afraid of, but it can pose a health
hazard if it stays for long periods of time due to the creation of harmful bacteria.
Following the next tips will help you prevent a stained bowl and the chore of
cleaning it up.

Why does my poop stick so bad?

1. Dieting

Poop has different consistencies depending on your diet, health conditions and if
you consume any type of medications. Occasionally one of these (or a combination
of all three) may be the leading cause of why your poop is sticking to the bowl.

A diet rich on fatty acids does not allow the body to correctly metabolize all of the
lipids; therefore, some of them may end up on your stool making it both thicker and
stickier.

An important consideration is that sticky poop usually happens once or twice due
to a fat rich diet. If the problem remains through a longer period of time after
changing your habits, it is recommended that you visit your doctor.

2. Toilet conditions

The other main cause why your poop is sticking so bad is the condition of your
toilet bowl. Stained bowls prevent the adequate movement of water when the toilet
is flushed. This bumps may transform into areas where your poop is able to stick
due to the uneven surface of the bowl.

In order for your toilet to work properly it is important that the surface of it is smooth
and clean. Localities where water is abundant with minerals like calcium and iron,
may suffer the formation of ridges on the bowl. These areas are again an important
spot where accumulation of poop may occur.
How do I stop my poop from sticking to the toilet?

If your poop is sticking to the toilet, do not worry. Here are a few tips you can follow
in order to prevent it from happening again:

1. The most easy solution: Improve your diet

If your diet is high on oily products, your poop is more likely to be sticking on your
toilet bowl. Fried fast food, chips and any other kind of food that uses oil while
being prepared, have higher contents of fats that are not being absorbed into your
body and are transferred directly into your poop. Decreasing the amount of fats
and increasing the consumption of foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables can
improve your health and the quality of your stool.

Some foods that are recommended for you to consume more are: broccoli, carrots,
mango, bananas, oranges, oatmeal or any food with high fiber contents.

If you present some kind of celiac disease, gluten must be avoided. This
component is found in food such as rye, malt, wheat and barley. Finally, if you are
lactose intolerant, consuming products with cow milk may cause your poop to be
sticky. Therefore, avoiding cheese, ice cream, butter and cream can help you to
improve the consistency of your poop.

2. A general tip: Flush before you go

If you are battling with poop constantly covering up the walls of your bowl or see
small spots on it before defecating, flush it before going. This way you “clean” the
bowl before more of your poop is accumulated and the water flow on the walls will
prevent it from sticking.

3. If your toilet is stained: Clean your toilet with Coca-Cola

Remember when people say that drinking coke is bad? Well, besides being a
delicious soda, it is also a powerful cleaner due to the high amounts of acid it
contains. To use it you must follow these steps:

 Turn off the source of water of the toilet.

 Empty the tank by flushing the toilet and remove excess water with paper
towels or an sponge.
 Empty enough Coca-Cola to have it cover the stains on the walls of the
bowl.
 Leave the soda resting overnight
 Next morning, open the water source and flush the Coca-Cola from the
toilet.

After doing this, the surface of your bowl must be cleaner and smother; thus
preventing further poop from attaching to it.
4. If everything else fails: Try pumice stone
Pumice stone is a type of volcanic rock commonly used to remove impurities from
our skin. However, it may also act as a cleaning agent to smoothen the walls of the
toilet and prevent more poop from attaching to them. This product can be found in
grocery stores, pharmacies or sanitary shops.

Pumice stone must be used in the following way in order to remove sticky poop
and prevent it from forming:
 Wet a part of it using either warm or cold water.
 Use the wet part of the stone and rub it against the walls of the toilet bowl.
o IMPORTANT: a screeching sound may be herd when removing the
stains from the surface.
 After applying the stone to the area where the stool tends to accumulate, the
walls of the bowl must be free from any stains and have a smooth
appearance.
 Repeat if the staining returns.

There you have it! Sticky poop is nothing else than a combination of way too
slippery stools and hard toilet surfaces. Remember: changing your diet is the first
step to prevent sticky poop (after all your body is the main producer of it). However,
we have listed some ways in which you can further prevent it. Cleaning your toilet
regularly will not only ensure a fresh smell and a shiny surface, but also help
prevent the accumulation of poop and the formation of bacteria on it.
