    For several radio models like the P110, the switch must be set to "Combine" which makes the input and output pins bidirectional for transmitting and receiving data to and from the radio. A MAX232 chip is used with polarized capacitors to convert voltage levels between the radio and serial port. The schematic shows how to connect the serial port pins to the MAX232 and radio pins via a DB9 connector for data communication.
