A. TITLE: CHARACTERISTICS OF LEAVES MORPHOLOGY (2)

B. PURPOSE

1. Observing the characteristics of single leaves and compound leaves in plants.

2. Observing the types of single leaves and compound leaves in plants.
3. Distinguishing single leaves and compound leaves in plants.

C. MATERIAL

1. Lime leaves (Citrus aurantifolia)

2. Rose leaves (Rossa sp.)
3. Rubber leaves (Hevea brassiliensis)
4. Putrimalu leaves (Mimosa pudica)
5. Wuluh starfruit leaves (Averrhoa bilimbi)
6. Katu leaves (Saoropus androgynus).
7. Kapok leaves (Ceiba pentandra)
8. Corn leaves (Zea mays)
9. Papaya leaves (Carica papaya)
10. Palm leaves (Palmae)

D. WORKING PROCEDURE

1. Observe the morphological characteristics of the leaves on all existing specimens, and
determine single leaf or compound leaf for each leaf specimen of the observed plant.
2. Make an inventory of the observed data and record it in the table below.
3. Then observe what kind of compound or single leaf is each specimen of the observed
plant leaf and record it inward table below.
4. Discuss the results of the observations (group discussion).
5. Communicate observations result at the time of response.
E. LKM REPORT

1. Hypothesis / prediction:

a) If there is only one leaf on the leaf stalk, it is assumed that the leaf is a single leaf
b) If there is more than one leaf on the leaf stalk, it is assumed that the leaves are
compound leaves
c) Leaves that are not of the same size, age and fall are assumed to be single leaves.
d) Leaves that do not experience length gain (limited growth) are assumed to be
compound leaves

2. Observation Results on Specimens:

3. Based on the observations in the table above, then:

a. The difference between single leaf and compound leaf are:

 Single leaf (folium simplex), when on the leaf stalk there is only one leaf while
Compound leaves (folium compositum), when on the petiole there is more than one
leaf.
 Single leaf, the leaves are not the same age and size and fall while compound leaves
have the same age and size and fall
 Compound leaves do not have buds in the armpits of the leaflets while single leaves
have buds
 Compound leaves do not increase in length (limited growth)

b. The types of compound / single leaves are:

 Daun majemuk Menyirip Beranak Satu (Unifoliolatus)

 Odd Pinnate Compound Leaves (Imparipinnatus) in pairs
 Daun majemuk Menjari beranak daun tiga (trifoliolatus)
 Mixed Compound Leaves (Digitatopinnatus) in pairs
 Odd Pinnate Compound Leaves (Imparipinnatus) alternate
 Daun majemuk Menjari beranak daun tujuh (septemfoliolatus)
4. Record a summary of the morphological characteristics and types of leaves single /
compound in the form of a concept map.

6. Make Conclusions

From the observations that have been done of all existing specimens, the hypothesis
made earlier can be accepted. If there is only one leaf on the leaf stalk, then the leaf is a
single leaf. Meanwhile, if there is more than one leaf on the leaf stalk, the leaves are
compound leaves. The difference between single leaf and compound leaf from observations
on specimens are:

 Single leaf (folium simplex), when on the leaf stalk there is only one leaf while
Compound leaves (folium compositum), when on the petiole there is more than one
leaf .
 Single leaf, the leaves are not the same age and size and fall while compound leaves
have the same age and size and fall
 Compound leaves do not have buds in the armpits of the leaflets while single leaves
have buds.
 Compound leaves do not increase in length (limited growth)
The types of compound leaves of the specimens observed were:

• Daun majemuk Menyirip Beranak Satu (Unifoliolatus)

• Odd Pinnate Compound Leaves (Imparipinnatus) in pairs

• Daun majemuk Menjari beranak daun tiga (trifoliolatus)

• Mixed Compound Leaves (Digitatopinnatus) in pairs

• Odd Pinnate Compound Leaves (Imparipinnatus) alternate

• Daun majemuk Menjari beranak daun tujuh (septemfoliolatus)
