Introduction:

LIVE LIFE TO THE FULLEST: this quote always remind me to have life no regrets and
repentances. With so many obstacles and struggles in life, fears and failures are the mortal enemy
of having a wonderful and gracious life. This topic that I’ve chosen is about “The Power of Organ
Donation to Save Lives through Transplantation.”. What gives me more interested about this kind of
Bioethical issue is how the giver/donator will affect the life of the receiver for their second chance of
living whether it’s voluntary or involuntary. For my part, it is now the battle between why or why not?
For example, Why should I will give my organs to the person whom I don’t know and doesn’t know
me as human and doesn’t even care when I’m still alive. Why not, if this will benefit both of us or for
some scenario like tragedy or accident, knowing that out of tragedy, some good would come, and
others could receive the gift of life.

Summary of the Journal:

Organ and tissue donation is more important than many of us realize—for society and for the
individuals it directly affects. Today, there are nearly 118,000 individuals waiting for an organ transplant to
live healthier, more productive lives (Unpublished data, Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network
[OPTN], April 2013). For some people with end-stage organ failure, it is truly a matter of life and death.
Add to these the thousands more whose lives will be improved through tissue and cornea donation and
transplants that can help them move better, see better, and live better.
One way to expand the number of organs available for transplantation is to expand the number of
donors, through carefully and safely considering individuals who in the past were not included. The
guideline in this special issue of Public Health Reports provides a scientific, evidence-based process to
assure a balance between organ safety and availability for each individual on the transplant wait list.

Reaction:
This sample of bioethical issue gave me an insight to take care first ourselves before
understanding the means of others. If I am in the situation of end-life, honestly I would go for death
in order to save life that even for my last touch and last breath my life is not just for my life, since my
body doesn’t come from my own, saving life of others is worth fulfilling. Organ donation is not a
tragedy, but it can be a beautiful light, in the midst of one.
Donation affects more than the donors and recipients. It also affects the families, friends,
colleagues, and acquaintances who love and support those in need of transplantation, and who
benefit from their renewed life and improved health after transplant. To those who donate some of
their organs for the sake of saving life of others I bow them and respect them so much for their
bravery and selfless mindset knowing the risk of doing it.
I totally agree of Organ and tissue transplant donation through transplantation with proper
procedure system from a licensed Doctor and morally accepted from the both parties because some
moral beliefs also play into this issue regardless of religion. When religion come to this part, the
respect are very important whatever the decision that is and depth understanding for what will come
out. Proper education of the physician is a one way to increase organ donation and that it can
change someone perspective about the Organ and Tissue Donation through Transplantation.
