● I have always wanted to be in the medical field

● I play volleyball and basketball since 7th grade
● I love helping people and making them feel good
● I grew up in a military family

A community/work issue that can be solved with a particular skill set from your career area:
 ● I want to teach people how to understand how shots work. A lot of the public/adults don’t
always know the importance of getting their shots or are influenced by the media whether or not
they should get their shots or if they even really work. I want to educate people and inform them
of how shots work and why they are good to know about/have.

My potential hands-on will be:

● I would hold a public outside “fair” like thing to teach the public about shots, how they work,
and how they are beneficial to human health using a presentation showing pictures, and
explaining the process, etc

1. What personal interest do you have in this topic? Why have you chosen this topic for your Senior
Project/Showcase?
a. This topic is something that personally interests me because personally I have seen that the
media has affected the way that people view getting shot and has definitely altered if
people should get their shots or not. I think that shots are beneficial and other people
should too. I think that this is an important topic and an issue within our society and I want
to educate people on the topic.

2. What research questions will you seek to answer? What kinds of sources might you look for?

a. I will research the flu shot and how many people or the average population who were
benefited because they got vaccinated.

b. How many people were benefited by getting the flu shot in a specific year?

c. I will be looking for any types of graph, or charts anything like that to show numbers and
data sets

3. Who is a person/company (specifically, or in general) with experience or expertise in this field you
might interview? What understanding do you hope to gain from this person/company?
 a. A company that I might interview with is spectrum health or Helen Devos Children's
Hospital. I hope to gain more knowledge about nursing and what personal experience a
real nurse has been through, and what he/she took from that

4. What situations, events, or places could you observe or experience to gain insight into your topic?

a. I could observe hospital settings, even if I'm not allowed to follow a nurse around and see
what he/she does but even just seeing their interaction with people helps me advance my
knowledge in how to approach patients and their families for the future when I become a
nurse.

5. What challenges might you encounter with your research or project? What assistance or tools will
you need to overcome them?

a. Challenges: not being able to find the right information, not understanding enough to
explain it to others

b. I could ask my mentor, research more, and find books like nursing books

6. What other questions or concerns do you have about your Senior Capstone Project at this time?

a. How are we supposed to find our mentors?
