Contents
• Use the Teamcenter Rapid Start Shop Floor Viewer to navigate to various Teamcenter objects
and functions.
Note
Some software requirements differ for non-English locales. When
viewing the certification database, make sure you note any exceptions
for your locale.
Caution
Do not disable the programmatic starting of new browsers. (This
is known typically as popup blocking). Popup blocking can be
enabled by browser add-ins, such as the Google toolbar. Blocking of
popups disables certain features, including logging off from Lifecycle
Visualization and displaying HTML online help.
Enable FMS Shop Floor Viewer fully supports the Teamcenter File Management System
in Shop Floor (FMS). To enable Shop Floor Viewer to use FMS for accessing files from
Viewer Teamcenter volumes, you must set the Fms_BootStrap_Urls preference to
use the appropriate file server cache.
To enable downloading of multiple files at a time, you must enable applet support
by performing the following tasks:
1. Disable the Microsoft VM in Internet Explorer.
• If you use the Teamcenter Client for Microsoft Office, you cannot click the Edit link next to a
dataset and open the dataset for editing.
• You cannot save the history of page navigation or search results that are normally available when
you click the Back and Forward buttons in other browsers.
Choose a language
The default language displayed is the one specified by your operating system locale settings. You
can choose to override the default display language if required.
At each logon, you can choose between multiple languages, depending on your company's policy
and installation. There are two ways you can specify the language:
• Specify the language in the URL. For example:
o To specify French, type http://myhost:7001/tc/webclient?lang=fr in the URL.
1. For information about versions of operating systems, third-party software, Teamcenter software, and system hardware certified for your
platform, see the Siemens PLM Software Certification Database (hardware and software certifications).
Note
o When specifying a language in the URL, use standard W3C locale identifiers.
o Whether your network uses IPv6 (128-bit) or IPv4 (32-bit) addresses, use host
names in URLs wherever possible so the domain name system (DNS) can
determine which IP address to use.
If you must use IP addresses and your network uses IPv6 addresses, enclose the
literal IPv6 address in square brackets, for example:
http://[2001:db8:ffff:1:101:12ff:de13:1322]:9043/tc
• Specify the language in your browser preferences. For example, in Microsoft Internet Explorer,
perform the following steps:
1. Choose Tools → Internet options....
6. Click the language you want to see in the user interface in the Language Preference dialog
box.
10. Log on and view the user interface in the language you chose.
Note
An error message is displayed if the specified language is unavailable.
Your ability to set the language for Shop Floor Viewer depends on the character set encoding of the
Teamcenter server host and also the character set encoding of the Teamcenter database.
Note
To prevent mixed-language display after you change the Shop Floor Viewer display
language, clear your web browser cache. This prevents the interface from displaying
in mixed languages.
When you log on, the home page initially displays the contents of your Home folder in the My
Teamcenter tree pane.
• The Home folder is the root object (topmost) on the page. You can subsequently navigate to
any other object that you have permission to access and view this object as the root object on
the page.
• Any children of the root object display below the object. The object may be, for example, a
dataset, structure, or collaboration context.
When you click the link to an object in the home folder, Teamcenter displays the selected object with
the object as the root and expanded by one level to show all of its immediate children.
The children of an object display differently, depending on the type of object you select, as follows:
Note
You can expand and collapse the root object with the expand (+) and collapse (–) buttons.
The Shop Floor Viewer interface has a standard menu bar and toolbar with options that vary
depending on the currently active application. You can place the cursor over a Shop Floor Viewer
toolbar button to display a tooltip description.
1 Menu bar and button Provides access to menu and button commands and lists the
bar current user name, group, role, revision rule, and server.
2 Navigation pane Provides search functionality, link groups, and application buttons.
You can expand and collapse the entire pane and pane groups,
select what is displayed in primary and secondary areas, and
configure the display of applications.
3 Component pane Displays component hierarchies in a tree view. You can resize this
pane to be wider or narrower.
The default layout for Shop Floor Viewer applications has a header bar containing menus, command
buttons, and session information above three panes, arranged vertically side-by-side. Some Shop
Floor Viewer applications arrange the component pane and the data pane horizontally.
Note
If instant messaging is configured, the data pane may also display the current Microsoft
Office Communicator status of the owning and last modified users.
Note
Not all commands may be visible to you as your site may suppress the display of
commands. Command suppression is set at both the group and role levels.
• Your user context data to the right of the page, typically the current user name, group, role, and
default revision rule.
Navigation pane
The Shop Floor Viewer navigation pane provides quick access to applications and to the data you
use most.
Note
A progress dialog box is displayed for all searches lasting
more than one second. A Cancel button in the progress
dialog box is displayed for metadata-only queries.
• Advanced Search
Allows you to initiate advanced queries with predefined criteria. You can
save query criteria that you use frequently. Choose Advanced from the
search menu to set up an advanced search.
2 Link groups Quick Links
• Home
Returns to your home page from any other page.
• My Saved Searches
Displays your saved searches.
• My Links
Creates a list of bookmarks.
History
• Contains links to pages you have recently visited.
Favorites
• Contains links to pages you have bookmarked by using the Add to
Favorites button or the Actions→Add to Favorites menu command.
Note
When an object linked in a Favorites list is deleted from the
Teamcenter database, the link becomes invalid but is still
displayed in the Shop Floor Viewer navigation pane.
Note
You can also use the alternative Navigation Settings button at the top of the
navigation pane to display the Navigation Settings dialog box, and you can use the
Collapse button to hide the navigation pane.
Installed and configured applications that do not appear in the primary or secondary areas,
but still appear in the Available Applications pane of the Navigation Settings dialog
box, do not appear in the user interface.
Note
Your browser also provides a Favorites bookmark capability.
You can save a URL bookmark using the browser Favorites feature. If you have Shop
Floor Viewer configured with SSO (single sign-on) and SSL (secure socket layer), the
browser does not return you to the expected location after you log off Teamcenter and log
on again, while in the same browser session.
After you log off, but within the same browser session, selecting a browser Favorites
bookmark link to a Shop Floor Viewer location causes the SSO Login Service to prompt
you to log on to the application using your user name and password; then the SSO Login
Service redirects you to the Shop Floor Viewer configured for the application during
installation.
To use a browser Favorites bookmark link to access a specific location after you log off,
you must first end the current browser session (restart the browser). After you restart
the browser, the Favorites bookmarked entry requires you to log on and then accesses
the desired location.
• Double-click the object to open it as the root for the component pane.
• Hold the cursor over the object to display the action menu .
The action menu in the component pane provides the following commands:
• Open
Selects the object and makes it the root object in the component pane.
Note
Use this command to create URL links to objects.
When you open an object to make it the root object in the component pane, the URL in
the browser address field is updated. You can cut and paste the URL to create a link to
the object that can be included in documents such as e-mails and spreadsheets.
• Cut
Selects the object to cut for pasting elsewhere.
• Copy
• Paste
Pastes the current content of the Teamcenter clipboard.
• Delete
Selects and deletes the link to the object from the current location.
• Properties
Displays the properties dialog box for the object. You can use this dialog box to view information
or to check out the object and edit information.
• Add to Favorites
Adds the object to the Favorites list in the navigation pane.
Tables
Some pages in the Shop Floor Viewer present data in a table that contains the various elements of
the page. Tables can contain the following elements:
• Columns
Columns displayed within a page list various object properties, for example, type and date
modified.
o To change which columns are visible, choose Edit→Options and click the Column
Management tab.
o To resize a column, drag the column border in the appropriate direction. Changes made
to the column width in the Shop Floor Viewer are maintained throughout the Shop Floor
Viewer session.
o Single-click a row to clear any previous selection and select the row.
o Hold down the Ctrl key and click to toggle the selection state of the row.
o Hold down the Shift key and click to select a range of rows, from the first selected row up to
and including the current row. This action clears any previous selection.
o Hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys and click to select a range of rows from the last selected
row up to and including the current row.
• Child rows
Children of a row are displayed indented under the row.
o The types of objects displayed as children depend on the type of object selected.
For example, the children of a row displaying a folder are the folder contents.
o You can show or hide child rows by expanding or collapsing the display structure.
Use the + and – buttons to the left of the object display to expand and collapse the tree
structure.
• Scroll bar
The scroll bar is visible when the contents of the table are too large for the browser window.
It appears on the right of the table. It allows you to scroll through the contents of the table without
scrolling any part of the page above, below or to the side of the table.
Useful features, such as menus, are always visible.
• Dialog boxes
Dialog boxes show details of objects and allow you to enter data for simple actions.
• Links
If a detailed page or action is associated with the object, it is hyperlinked to the object.
Clicking the link has an particular action, depending on the type of the object.
Localization button
If you are granted translation access privileges, when you log on to Teamcenter you may see the
Localization button in properties dialog boxes next to property objects that are localizable.
Click the Localization button to display the Language Translations dialog box that lists existing
translation values. This button appears only if special localization configurations are made.
Note
If you find that Asian multibyte characters do not display correctly in the rich client, set
your system font to a font that supports Asian multibyte characters. For example, on
Microsoft Windows systems, the Arial Unicode MS font can be set to Message Box to
correct this problem.
Similarly, if you find that Asian multibyte characters do not display correctly when you
start the rich client using the native language (-nl) option, you should restart your system
in the appropriate locale and set your system font to a font that supports Asian multibyte
characters.
Caution
If you use the Lifecycle Visualization embedded viewer, do not launch the the rich client
using the -nl argument.
For the embedded viewer to work properly, the operating system locale and the rich client
runtime locale must match. The -nl argument overrides the Java locale and can cause
incorrect behavior in the embedded viewer.
Dynamic menus
The Shop Floor Viewer includes dynamic menus—the menu commands change according to the
task you are performing. For example, the menu commands on your home page differs from the
ones on your worklist page.
Note
Your administrator may suppress some menu commands that are not relevant to your
site. Features described in this help system may be unavailable if menu commands are
suppressed.
There are three basic types of actions that you can perform with these menus:
• Navigate to a new URL, replacing the current page, for example, to go to your worklist.
• Execute an action within the current page, for example, clipboard actions such as cut, copy,
and paste.
• Reenter your new password in the Confirm New Password box in exactly the same format
and capitalization as you entered it in the New Password box.
Click OK to change your password. Click Cancel to exit without saving the new password.
To change your current group or role, default group or role, or the current revision rule, do the
following:
2. To change your current group and role for the current session, select the new settings from the
Group/Role list on the Login Settings tab.
3. To change the project for the current session, select the new project from the Project list on the
Login Settings tab. This option is not available if your site does not use projects.
4. To change your current project for the current session, select the new settings from the Project
list on the Login Settings tab.
5. To change the revision rule for the current session, select the new rule from the Revision Rule
list on the Login Settings tab.
6. To change your default group for future sessions, select the new default group from the Default
Group list on the Login Settings tab.
7. To change your default role in assigned groups for future sessions, select the new default role
from the appropriate list next to the group name on the Default Role Settings tab.
8. Click OK to modify the current user settings (if necessary), and refresh the displayed data based
on the new user settings. Click Cancel to exit without changing your user settings.
Note
A Local Volume field is available if the TC_Store_and_Forward preference is set to true.
Default local volumes are temporary local volumes that allow files to be stored locally
before they are automatically transferred to the final destination volume. This functionality
is also known as store and forward.
Note
If an option is disabled, the preference instance protection scope does not allow the
current user to modify the value.
1. Choose Edit→Options.
Teamcenter displays the Options dialog box.
2. Click the tab containing the option you want to set as follows:
• Display
Allows you to set whether all revisions, item relations, and item revision relations are
displayed. You can also choose your status symbols and column sizes for Structure Manager
and the Manufacturing Process Planner. It also allows you to set whether first column and
menu entries display in a new window when clicked. You can also enable or disable the
display of the contents of Home and My Worklist in the Quick Links pane.
Note
If you add the Inbox Columns Comments property to your display options,
comments do not display without ITK programming.
• Search
Allows you to set your favorite queries and preferences for character case sensitivity and
dataset version.
• Product Structure
Allows you to set your default revision rule and view type. It also allows you to set preferences
for packing the BOM, showing unconfigured variants, and precision (precise/imprecise).
• Advanced
Allows you to set group name display limits, Classification table page size, and Classification
table header style. You can also set RDV search preferences, LOV description display,
Dimensional Planning and Validation (DPV) archive criteria, and the style sheet that governs
the appearance of the Shop Floor Viewer interface.
• Column Management
Allows you to customize the appearance of columns.
If you add or remove columns, change the order of columns, or resize column widths, the
changes are maintained throughout the session. Resizing column widths are maintained only
in the Shop Floor Viewer and are not reflected in the rich client.
4. Modify the current setting as necessary, then click OK in the Options dialog box to complete your
changes. Click Cancel to exit without changing your options.
Note
If you change an option and click Cancel, the changes are not saved, but may continue
to display in the dialog rather than being discarded. This issue occurs because dialog
boxes are hidden, rather than destroyed, when OK or Cancel are clicked. Subsequent
calls make the dialog box visible again and, as a result, the unsaved values may
display again.
To work around this problem when Cancel is clicked, refresh the browser by pressing
the F5 key or clicking the Refresh button.
• WEB_title_contents

Search overview
You can search the Teamcenter database for objects that match specific criteria. Your administrator
may define and save frequently used queries to allow fast searches of the database.
You can use dates as a criteria for narrowing searches. However, you must enter all dates in the exact
format defined by your administrator. This is the same date format as shown on your home page.
You can search for metadata (for example, the identifier of an item) or for text (for example, the title of
or keywords in a document). The Keyword Search query form allows you to combine full-text and
metadata searches into a single query. This allows you to, for example, search for all documents
containing a given keyword that were created within a specified range of dates.
Search results display in a table on the results page. Each object found appears on a separate line
of the table. They are not displayed in a tree hierarchy, so there are no child lines associated with
any object. You can open any of the objects displayed as the root object in the page by clicking
the link to the object.
2. Enter a value for the search criteria, for example, an item identifier. You can use wildcard
characters to define more flexible search criteria; type * to match multiple characters or ? to
match exactly one character.
The search string may be case sensitive or case insensitive, as determined by your option
settings. For more details, see Set Shop Floor Viewer preference options.
3. Click Go.
On completion of the search, the results are listed in the main window.
You can open any of the listed items from the search results list. To return to the search results,
click the Back button of your browser.
Teamcenter displays the General dialog box that allows you to search for any object in the
database that meets selected criteria. You can search by any combination of the criteria
shown in the dialog box, including name, description, type, class, owning user, owning group,
creation dates, modification dates, release dates, release status, and current task.
• Item
Teamcenter displays the Item dialog box that allows you to search for any item in the
database that meets selected criteria. You can search by any combination of the criteria
shown in the dialog box, including name, description, owning user, owning group, creation
dates, modification dates, release dates, release status, and current task.
• Item Revision
Teamcenter displays the Item Revision dialog box that allows you to search for any item
revision in the database that meets selected criteria. You can search by any combination
of the criteria shown in the dialog box, including name, description, owning user, owning
group, creation dates, modification dates, release dates, release status, and current task.
Click the calendar button next to the Created Before, Modified Before, Released Before,
Created After, Modified After, or Release After boxes to display a calendar popup dialog
box to select the date and time.
• Remote
Teamcenter displays the Remote dialog box that allows you to search for any object in a
remote database that meets selected criteria. You can search by any combination of the
criteria shown in the dialog box, including name, ID, description, type, class, owning user,
owning group, owning site, and release status.
You can view objects found in remote databases, but cannot load them or import them into
your local database. To import an object from a remote database, use the rich client.
• More
Teamcenter displays the Change Search dialog box with tabs and buttons. Use this dialog
box to view search history, view and share saved searches, or view system-defined searches.
For information about the Change Search dialog box, see Change Search dialog box.
2. Click Find on the relevant dialog box to start the search. On completion of the search, the results
are listed at the bottom of the main page. Optionally, click Clear to remove the selected search
criteria and specify a new search.
Note
The search dialog box automatically collapses when you start the search. However,
you can expand it again by clicking the + button.
3. Click Change on the relevant dialog box to display the Change Search dialog box.
For information about this dialog box, see Change Search dialog box.
4. Click Save Search on the relevant dialog box to display the Add My Saved Search dialog box.
Choose a folder and then type a name for the saved search.
You can open any of the listed objects from the search results list. To return to the search results,
click the Back button of your browser.

property values. Editable values are shown in a text box, with (if applicable) a list of selectable
values. If you edit any of the editable values, click OK or Apply to complete the changes, or click
Cancel to exit without completing the changes.
View forms
• You can view forms that are attached to a selected item, including items in a structure,
collaboration context, or composition by clicking the link to the required form.
Teamcenter displays the form data in a dialog box.
Note
Your administrator to create custom style sheets as the basis of these forms.
For more information, see the Rich Client Customization.
Note
The Shop Floor Viewer does not extensively check for cyclic product structures. Do not
create structures using the Shop Floor Viewer if you are concerned about cyclic structure
avoidance.
For more information about creating product structures, see the Structure Manager.
2. Either click Structure Manager in the navigation pane or choose View→ Structure.
Note
• Teamcenter displays lines with defined variant conditions with a different background
color.
• A symbol to the left of the name of each line indicates its type, for example, item or
item revision.
• If a line includes a copyright (©) symbol, the revision is configured by the current
revision rule; otherwise, it is not configured.
• To arrange the lines in descending order of the property value, click the column header until
it displays a down arrow.
For example, to arrange the lines by sequence number, click the Sequence Number column header.
When the arrow in the header points upwards, the lines are arranged in ascending order by the
sequence number and the line with the lowest sequence number is shown at the top. When the arrow
points downwards, the lines are arranged in descending order by the sequence number and the line
with the highest sequence number is shown at the top.

• Expression
Type an expression formed from the selected attributes, logical operators, and relational
operators. For example:
4. Optionally, if there are too many matches, you can refine the search by modifying the parameters.
If you choose Actions→Find in display again, Teamcenter displays the Find dialog box with the
previous search parameters shown. Modify one or more parameters and click OK to begin the
refined search.
Note
You cannot perform a spatial search in the Shop Floor Viewer.
Note
If you do not select the BVRs before choosing the menu command, the BOM line
boxes are initially blank. You can type the name of each line or use the Find button

• Lowest Level
Lowest level mode compares the lowest level items in two product structures. It does not
compare the intermediate structure. It allows you to compare multiple views, for example,
when a design view has a different structure to a manufacturing view while still containing
the same piece parts.
This mode calculates the quantities of each item in the product structures before beginning
the comparison. Sequence numbers are not meaningful in this context. Only additions, total
quantity changes, and revision changes are reported.
Teamcenter displays the BOM Compare report. The two product structures are shown in adjacent
columns, allowing you to visually compare them and identify differences. Certain differences are also
identified in color; additions are highlighted in red, changes in quantity or revision are highlighted
in orange.
Item occurrences in the report are hyperlinked. Click a hyperlink to open the corresponding product
structure line.
• Properties of the parent or child object must satisfy specified values or be NULL.
For allowable substitutes in a given BOM line, the same restrictions that apply to the primary part
occurrence are applied to the substitute.
Note
Teamcenter validates only the first two operations in real time.
When you save edits, Teamcenter validates that they do not violate the defined business rules and, if
they do, displays an error message and does not save the changes.
Optionally, you can perform an on-demand validation of property updates at any time by right-clicking
a top line with substructure and choosing Tools→Validate Occurrences. If no issues are found,
Teamcenter displays a confirmation and saves a validation log. If issues are found, it displays
a list of errors.
Note
The administrator uses the Business Modeler IDE to define these business rules on
explicitly stated classes. Any subclasses or subtypes of these classes inherit the same
rules.
Your administrator must also create and set the following preferences:
• PS_Default_Rev_For_Occ_Cond_Validation
Defines the default revision rule when a child item is used for validation.
• PS_Bypass_Occurrence_Condition
Configures the system to bypass occurrence condition validation for defined actions
or operations.
