Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in EAPP

(Using Inquiry approach/Discovery Design)


I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the learners are expected to:
a. Identify academic language vs. non-academic language (Formal and Informal Language),
b. construct and present a text using the features of academic writing;
c. Promote a personal claim about issues using non-academic language.

 Group the class into 3
Ask the students to complete the crossword puzzle to form words and ideas about the topic.

 After the activity, ask sensible questions that elicit ideas of the Lesson.

Exploring Academic Disciplines
Directions: Consider the following circle of your teachers. They are all asking you to conduct research in
different ways using a variety of sources. Pretend that you are going to do what is required in each
subject. Put a check mark on the third column of the table which must be considered when writing your
research.
Write your answer on the activity notebook.

 ANALYSIS (5mins) (Engage)
Using the numbered-head strategy: use the questions from the activity to help learners reflect on the
importance of academic writing.
 Discuss all the items in the activity together with the students. Act as a facilitator and do the prompt
questioning to help them support the idea formulated. (scaffolding)
 Check the answers of the students and make necessary corrections. (direct feedbacking)
 ABSTRACTION (15mins) (Advance)
 Define Academic text and non-academic text
 List all the features of an academic text.
 Present examples of formal and informal language. Emphasize on the importance of formal
language in Academic writing.
 APPLICATION(15mins) ( subject integration)/ (KRA 2) (Refine)
Directions: It’s time to write your own text. Using the prompts given, write your responses on the space
provided for your writing.
Group 1
 Goal: Your goal is to persuade the school heads and teachers of learning modality suited to the
learners in your community considering the pandemic we are facing.
 Product: a persuasive opinion speech
Group 2
 Goal: Your goal is to identify and compare polygons in a two – step process.
 Product: a brief description of polygons showing their similarities and differences
Group 3
 Goal: to understand the role and rights of women in the past and today.
 Product: comparative essay of women’s role and rights in the past and present.

IV. GENERALIZATION(5mins)

 When do we use academic language and non-academic language?
 Why is there a need to learn these languages?
 How does academic language affect the way we deal with people?
V. EVALUATION: (5mins)
Directions: Identify and match the informal vocabulary in column A with column B. Write the
answer of your choice before each number in column A.

ACADEMIC WRITING ACTIVITY
Directions: write an essay, using the academic language (Formal language) focusing on the topic:
“Some people think that only the government can make significant changes in society, while
others think that individuals can have a lot of influence. What is your opinion?”
