Topic of the lesson:

The Big Picture


Where does this lesson fit in the topic/unit being taught? How does it link with other units or
subjects?

This lesson is an introduction to the classroom-based assessment for 2nd years. The CBA is
a key part of the 2nd year curriculum. The purpose of this class is to inform students of what
the MFL CBA consists of and what they must do to complete it.
Students must complete CBA in various other subjects; however, the format of each CBA
varies for each subject.

What prior knowledge do student have about this topic (from class or their everyday lives)?

Students may have discussed or completed CBAs in other subjects.

Literacy, Numeracy and Key skills

Literacy: CBA, roleplay, interview, presentation, unscripted, re-phrase.

Numeracy: Date, 3 roles, following the timetable/schedule of work

Oral: asking and answering questions throughout the lesson,

Aural: listening to teacher and classmates, Youtube video.

Written: Writing on Padlet

Social: working in pairs in breakout rooms – think, pair, share.

Digital: reading from PowerPoint, Padlet, MS forms quiz.

Key Skills: Being literate, managing myself, staying well, managing information, and
thinking, being numerate, being creative, working with others, communicating.

 Introduce students to the MFL Classroom Based Assessment (CBA)

 Lay out the timeline to be followed.

 Facilitate students’ interaction and peer work skills throughout breakout room

activities, think, pair and share.


 Promote oral literacy with questioning throughout the class; written literacy by

writing on Padlet, group work and reporting back to class.

2. Learning Intentions/Outcomes
At the end of this lesson, students will ….

1. Students will know what ‘C.B.A’ stands for and its importance.

2. They will understand the CBA requirements and summarise its requirements e.g.:

The CBA formats- Individual or in groups and the group roles. They will also know

that the CBA presentation is 3-4 minutes, and what topic we are choosing as a class.

3. They will be aware of the CBA timetable and key dates for handing in work and

doing oral presentation.

4. Access the class website and know how to navigate it and find information.

5. Understand the importance of internet safety and what steps to ensure this safety.
3. Assessment How will students’ learning progress be assessed? What are success
criteria?

 Oral questions and answers throughout the lesson – Bloom’s taxonomy and

differentiation.

 Think, pair, share in breakout rooms.
