Line of Fire – Handling of pipe Blinds

• Don’t shift blind manually by rolling over the ground.


• Use mechanical aids like telehandler or pallet jack for shifting blinds.

• Use gin wheel and lifting bag of rated capacity to lift blinds to higher elevations.

Line of Fire – High pressure Systems


• Hydro & Pneumatic test – Only authorised persons allowed inside testing area.
• Opening & closing valves during testing stand aside.
• High pressure hoses shall be equipped with whip checks & keepers at joints

Vehicle and equipment movement


• Identify the blind spots and keep a minimum distance from the equipment/vehicle.
• Always keep the visual contact with the operator / driver.
• Do not perform other duties while giving signals.

Hand tools - torque wrench


• Select the right tools for the task as per torque value.
• Ensure that nut is properly seated on the socket to avoid slippage of the torque wrench
• Push the torque wrench away from the body wherever possible.
• Ensure proper body posture while carrying out the task.
• Use tool lanyards while working at height.

Hand tools - Hammer


• Select a hammer which is comfortable, proper size & weight for the particular job.
• Discard any hammer with mushroomed or chipped face.
• Look behind & above while swinging the hammer & use tongs to keep your hands away
• Ensure that other workers are maintaining safe distance from the hammer swing area.
• Ensure a secure foot balance while hammering.
• Provide tool lanyard while using the hammer at height.
• Keep your hands away from the striking area.

Lifting and rigging (Gin wheel operation)


• Use only 18mm or 20mm rope to hoist the load.
• Ensure that the SWL is not exciding and canvas bag is not over flowing.
• Exclusion zone must be wide enough and post relevant signage.
• Be vigilant & keep a safe distance from the suspended load while hoisting canvas bag

Manual material handling.


• Try to eliminate manual handling wherever possible.
• Assess possible line of fire situations prior to start manual handling activities.
• When lifting or moving materials keep hands away from possible pinch points.
• Do not place your hand or other body parts at line of fire points.

Manual material handling (Grid mesh).


• Ensure that the ground is level and firm before unbundling the gratings.
• Do not stack loose gratings more than an acceptable height.
• Do not handle gratings with hands instead of BPJV approved grating installation tool
