Book Review: The Picture of Dorian Grey

Title: The Picture of Dorian Grey

Author: Oscar Wilde

Number of pages: 288

Year of publication: 1890

Target audience: adults

Type of book: novel

Genre: gothic horror

Publisher: various

SUMMARY AND CHARACTERS:

This novel tales the facts around the story of a young Englishman named Dorian Gray,

who is a character who feels admiration for himself and his own beauty, his only desire is

to always look beautiful and attractive, so he decides to make a pact with evil.

Basil Halward is a painter who is very impressed by Dorian's beauty and decides to make

a portrait of him. Henry Wotton is an aristocratic and hedonistic man who infiltrates Gray's

life immensely. Although there are more characters like the young Sibyl and Hetty, Basil

and Wotton are fundamental in Wilde's story.

FAVORITE PART:

Referring to the favorite part of the work, it stands out that Gray maintains a youthful and

beautiful image, when observing his portrait, on the contrary, you can observe in him a

deteriorated and ugly image due to the actions that he has caused and his corruption of the

soul.

RECOMMENDATION:

The portrait of Dorian Gray is a controversial and controversial work due to the topics it

addresses and I would recommend it for certain types of readers, preferably adults, who like

this topic, related to hedonism, pleasure, aesthetics and beauty and they can understand the

essential bridge of the work. In general, the book is good and has important arguments that

allow reflection on aspects of life.
