SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT

Note: This assignment is aimed at equipping students with the skills required for supply chain
management reporting. Through a case analysis exercise, the students develop the
understanding of identifying and synthesising nuances of supply chain management in a real-life
situation. The assignment is purely for the purpose of class discussion and participation; and any
similarity/resemblance to any names of people or organizations is purely coincidental.

answering the below questions.

Situation

During your internship, you had worked at a fashion garments start-up in India. They have 6 mini stores
in Tier 1 cities in the country. It had been three years since the organization started operations. They
have received two rounds of funding and are quickly gaining market share. They have been approached
by leading companies for merger/acquisition talks but they have been turning down all requests. This
is because the organization is very close to the heart of founders. They are half-brothers and it was
their father’s dream to build a leading fashion chain in India.

Recently, it was brought to their notice that their supply chain is not able to keep up with the new trends.
They have a supply chain department, but most people working there are elderly and were hired for
their years of industry work experience. The founders were discussing about revamping the supply
chain, when they were reminded about their MBA lesson on responsive supply chains. After much
discussion and deliberation, they came to realise their supply chain needs to increase more responsive-
ness. They also remembered their supply chain instructor teaching them Harvard’s case on Zara’s
supply chain––as one of the most responsive supply chains in fashion garments industry.

This is when they were reminded of you. They have been repeatedly told about your dedication and
innovative ideas by the manager, who you reported to, during your internship period. They are very
open to new ideas and since they are business management graduates themselves––-they believe
best ideas come from students.

Now, they have invited you for a 10-minute talk, and asked for probes or slides on supply chain practices
at Zara. They plan to use this information and see what can be incorporated in their own supply chain.

Note: The deliverable of this assignment is only the presentation/slides that you would send to them
before the talk; and not the talk. You can use a maximum of 4 slides to present your work.
