Drug Rehabilitation in Indonesia

Drug user is a person who consumes an illegal psychoactive substance. Drug

rehabilitation is the process of medical or psychotherapeutic treatment for depency on
psychoactive substances such as alcohol, prescription drugs, and street drugs such as
marijuana, cocaine, and heroin. Reliable rehabilitation centers are important because drug
addiction causes destructive effects on abusers and people around them.

In 2014, the Indonesian government issued legal guidelines related to handling

drug users. Provisions in chapter IX (Article 54,55-59 0f law No. 25 of 2011 concerning
compulsory Implementation of Narcotics Addiction Report which confirmed that
narcotics addicts and victims of narcotics abuse must undergo medical and social
rehabilitation in drug rehabilitation center. There are several drug rehabilitation center in
Indonesia. First, drug rehabilitation in Indonesia is ”Pusat Rehabilitasi Narkoba BNN”,
Bogor West Java. Second, another drug rehabilitation in Indonesia is “Yayasan Penuai
Indonesia” (drug rehabilitation center), Cianjur West Java. Third, the other drug
rehabilitation in Indonesia is “Rumah Cemara” (drug rehabilitation Center), Bandung city
West Java.

Drug rehabilitation center offer various services including treatment and

counseling. Drug rehabilitation consists of three stages. First, medical rehabilitation stage
(detoxification). The medical rehabilitation stage is carried out under the control of a
doctor. Drug users will be examined physically and mentally, including examining
sexually transmitted infections, and decide certain medicines to reduce drug withdrawal
symptoms (sakau). Second, social or non-medical rehabilitation stage. At this stage, drug
users will undergo several programs. They are therapy community, 12-steps therapy and
spiritual (religious) formation. Third, anvanced development stage. in the anvanced
development stage, drug users will be given activities that are suitable with their
respective interests and talents. For example work activities or skills, sports, and arts.
 Drug rehabilitation center offer various services including treatment and
counseling. If you have a problem of drug addiction, it is important that you choose a

normal life. Most of the reputable rehab centers employ highly qualified counselors and
medical doctors to help drug abusers quit their destructive habits.
