Vietnam is a country of numerous festivals.

But the most well-known

tradition of Vietnam is the Lunar New Year festival, also known as the Tet
holiday, which is the occasion expected the most by Vietnamese people
every year. It usually lasts for around 3-4 days, and it takes place when a
new year comes according to the lunar calendar. It supposes that the
Christmas festival is in Western countries in terms of celebrations and as
the New Year festival in terms of its norm. If someone visits Viet Nam
during the Tet holidays he will surely notice the colorful houses and streets.
Tet provides the opportunity for reunions for Vietnamese families, as people
who work and study in big cities tend to return to their hometowns at this
time of the year. During this time, many stores and businesses remain
closed. Almost all families make Chung cake - a traditional cake for this
special occasion. Chung cake is made of rice, mung beans, and fat pork,
wrapped in banana leaves in the shape of a square. Vietnamese visit their
relatives to wish them prosperous, healthy for a new year, They also go to
the pagodas frequently to wish for a better year to come for their families.
Another thing that adults give children some " lucky money " with the hope
that it will bring fortune to kids. All Vietnamese citizens like this festival.
Because it is not only a great time to think about what they have done in the
previous year and to make plans for the upcoming year but also being
present with their families and beloved ones.
