Six Forms of Energy

• Chemical:
– For example ___________________, ___________________, and ___________________.

• Mechanical (work):
– For example ___________________, and ___________________.

• Thermal (heat):
– For example _______________________________________.

• Radiation (light):

Glencoe Computer Activity: Transfer of Energy:
Procedure:
1. Got to the website: http://www.glencoe.com/sites/common_assets/science/virtual_labs/E04/E04.html
2. Choose a sequence from the Event Sequence menu
3. Click the first event picture in the sequence and read its description
4. Decide what type of energy is represented by the event picture and description, and choose from the first Energy menu.
5. Repeat the above steps for the two remaining pictures.
6. Click the Check button to check your conversion sequence.
7. When you have the correct answers record your findings in the table below.

Data Table: Energy Conversion Sequence Data

Sequence Number Step 1 Energy Type Step 2 Energy Type Step 3 Energy Type

PhET Energy Forms and Changes Computer Activity:

Procedure:
1. Click on the Energy Forms and Changes Java File on the desktop

2. Click on Energy Systems at the top

3. Click on the box to see the Energy Symbols

4. From the three panels at the bottom of the simulation choose devises to construct a working energy system.

5. Once you have a system that works draw a picture of it and describe your system with the devices you used and the type
of energy that each produced. For example:

In my system water produces

mechanical energy that causes a wheel
to turn and produce electrical energy,
which causes water to boil producing
thermal energy.
