Course Description
Human Resource (HR) management is the lifeblood of any organization. It involves
leadership, values, empoyment planning, recruiting and selecting employees, training
and compensating them, and evaluating their performance. It also significantly
influences the corporate culture and norms. This is where attainment of the institutional
goals and the sustainability of its culture would largely depend. This is why the
institution invests so much in its human capital.

This advanced course is designed for HR personnels and for those professionals who
wish to make an effective contribution to the institution at a strategic level either as
employees or as external consultants. Students will integrate the contributions of
behavioral sciences and experiences in building conceptual foundation of implementing
the HR function in the new normal.

The topics include:


 transforming HR from the outside in
 HR professionals as strategic partners
 the six domains of HR competencies
 advanced communication and negotiation tactics for effective dialogue with
senior management
 designing strategies to re-engage employees and heighten productivity
 understanding and addressing the increasing multi-generational issues, and
 implementing a retention strategy that addresses the needs of all generations.

Advanced HR management skills such as consultation skills, coaching, change


management, and facilitation skills will be explored and applied. Students will learn
how to safeguard their organization's bottom-line by acquiring the high-level skills
needed in a central and strategic organizational activity of increasing complexity and
importance.
Course Objectives
At the end of the course, the learners must be able to:

1)  Identify the future trends affecting the workforce, the workplace, and HR

2)  Explain the strategies for HR transformation

3)  Describe the six domains of HR competencies of successful HR professionals

4)  Practice various communication and negotiation tactics for effective dialogue with
senior management

5)  Design strategies to affect employees commitment to productivity and efficiency

6)  Demonstrate the increasing multi-generational issues, and develop a retention


strategy that addresses the needs of all generations.

7)  Practice advanced HR management skills such as consultation skills, coaching,


change management, and facilitation skills

8)  Apply the HR strategies and competencies learned to real life work situations

 
Specific Learning Objectives:

Learners will gain understanding of the basic principles necessary to be an effective


advanced human resources manager

Learners will demonstrate factual knowledge about issues in human resources


management

Learners will show application of course material covered in order to improve thinking,
problem solving, and decision making.

Learnes will show appreciation the utility and applicability of HR theories to real-life
situation.

Expected Learning Outcomes


Learners will demonstrate knowledge about basic principles, generalizations, and/or
theories and concepts in advanced HR Management.

Learners will be able to utilize the meaning of factual knowledge (terminologies,


methods, approaches, trends) in understanding and addressing the increasing multi-
generational issues, and implementing a retention strategy that addresses the needs of
all generations.

Learners will be able to utilize the basic principles to effective HR consulting skills.

Learners will be able to apply course material to improve thinking, problem solving, and
decision making in the advanced HR management arena.

Learners will be able to give examples of real-life application of advanced HR theories


such as: How to transform HR from the outside in, and How to safeguard their
organization’s bottom-line by acquiring the high-level skills needed to excel as an
effective HR leader.

Expectations:

Learners are expected to:

 Go over the course syllabus before the start of the class.


 Raise concerns – questions, clarifications and the likes - about the course
syllabus at the start of the class.
 Actively participate in synchronous learning delivery and critique on at least two
classmate’s posts.
 Complete the tasks in asynchronous learning delivery by the due date. Late
responses will not be recorded.  
 Express professionalism in all undertakings and use good netiquette responses
while communicating with others.
 POLICIES ABOUT DEADLINES AND LATE WORK: Please contact me
directly through PHONE CALL about submission that is going to be late.
There may be unavoidable circumstances and family emergencies that
could justify your late submission hence, we need to talk it over.
 Monitor the Announcements either via Google Classroom or GC for any
important recent postings.

 N.b. This is NOT Self-paced learning.   I require that you participate on a


scheduled basis for all assignments, discussions, projects   or tests! 

Lastly, I am a very open-minded mentor.  I believe in being fair, friendly and flexible.  I
also believe that we learn from each other.  Therefore, I strongly encourage you to get
involved and don't be shy with your thoughts and comments while respecting others'
opinions.  Raising of hands should be practiced in our meetings. Let us continue to
