Unit 5.2: Stoichiometry

1. What mass of solid AgBr is produced when 100.0 mL of a 0.150 M AgNO 3 is added to excess NaBr?

2. A 1.42 g sample of a pure compound, with formula M2SO4, was dissolved in water and treated with an excess of aqueous
calcium chloride, resulting in the precipitation of all the sulfate ions as calcium sulfate. The precipitate was collected, dried,
and found to weigh 1.36g. Determine the atomic mass of M and identify M.

3. What volume of 0.150 M HNO3 will react completely with 50.00 mL of 0.200 M NaOH?

4. A 15.0 L rigid container was charged with 0.500 atm of krypton gas and 1.50 atm of chlorine gas at 350°C. The krypton and
chlorine react to form krypton tetrachloride. What mass of krypton tetrachloride can be produced assuming 100% yield?

5. Consider the reaction between 50.0 mL liquid methanol, CH 3OH (density = 0.850 g/mL) and 22.8 L O2 at 27°C and a pressure
of 2.00 atm. The products of the reaction are CO2(g) and H2O(g). Calculate the number of moles of H2O formed if the
reaction goes to completion.

6. Hydrogen cyanide is prepared commercially by the reaction of methane, CH4(g), ammonia, NH3(g), and oxygen, O2(g) at high
temperature. The other product is gaseous water.
a. Write a chemical equation for the reaction.

b. What volume of HCN(g) can be obtained from the reaction of 20.0 L CH4(g), 20.0 L NH3(g), and 20.0 L O2(g)? The
volumes of all gases are measured at the same temperature and pressure.
