Palm Sunday or Passion Sunday signals the
beginning of Holy Week. This is a time when we SEASON OF LENT
contemplate that Jesus is God made Man.

3pm – Stations of the Cross
Each year, at the beginning of Holy Week, 7.30pm – Stations of the Cross
Bishop Denis gathers the priests & people of the
diocese at the Chrism Mass. He blesses the
3 holy oils: the oil of catechumens, the oil of the


sick and the oil of chrism. The oil of
catechumens is used at the 8pm – Easter Vigil & Mass of the
baptism of children and adults. Resurrection
The oil of the sick is used for
anointing those who are ill, and

the oil of chrism is used at EASTER SUNDAY

baptism, confirmation, ordination
and the consecration of altars. During this Mass, 12.15pm – Celebration of Mass

There, may we discover the love of God,

Due to the current Covid 19
restrictions, the Graveyard
Committee are unable to carry
out their normal fundraising efforts. In an effort
to raise some funds, we have set up a Go Fund
Me page. To date we have received many
donations, for which we are so very grateful.
Our volunteers make a huge effort to keep our
Cemetery well maintained. If you have not

donation into Earley’s Shop, Gracefield or to the

SUGGESTIONS FOR KEEPING HOLY WEEK
 Create a sacred space in your home for the
week. It can be as simple as a candle & a
bible. You can add particular symbols for
given days, palm on Palm Sunday, a water
bowl & towel on Holy Thursday, a cross on
Good Friday, a candle & holy water for
Easter Sunday.
 Take time each day for prayer: Join in a
live stream liturgy from your parish / use the
daily prayer ritual in Bringing Holy Week

Facebook page / read the readings of the
day and go out for a walk as you reflect on
them.
 Visit your local parish church for some
private prayer and a physical connection
with your parish.

HOLY WEEK 2021
A most special week: For Christians, Holy
Week is the most important week of the year.
Holy Week lasts from Palm Sunday until Easter
Sunday and reaches its highpoint in what we call
the Easter Triduum – Those three great days
from the evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper to
Evening Prayer on Easter Sunday.
of faith: Again this year, our celebrations will be
very different due to the restrictions in place
because of the Covid-19 Pandemic. As a
Christian Community we cannot gather together
for our usual religious services. This will not
prevent us from uniting spiritually and taking time
to pray, to reflect and to make this Holy Week a
truly enriching experience of the presence of
God in our lives.

SERVICES
Offaly Personal Assistant Services are
currently recruiting for Personal Assistants in
Social Care in Tullamore, Banagher and
Portlaoise. The service provides support for
people with disabilities in the community,
assisting them with activities of daily living.
This is a Community Employment position which
will allow eligible candidates to gain both training
and experience in the disability services.
