Be prepared and bring the following items to every class:

• 2 Notebooks. One for each of these subjects: Wonder / Science
• 1 plastic folder for loose papers
• Red pen, pencil and an eraser
• All textbooks and workbooks
◦ Day 1 - Wonder, Vocabulary D(?), Wordly Wise 3000, Comprehension Matters, and PEA-I Writing book,
WRITING Grade 5 book
◦ Day 2 - Science, Vocabulary D(?), Wordly Wise 3000, Comprehension Matters, PEA-I Writing book,
WRITING Grade 5 book, and Novel

DAY 1 - Complete at home before class

*Homework no longer needs to be turned in to Google Classroom. However, certain students may
be asked to turn it in.

VOCABULARY D1
A. Complete on pgs. 38-48
-A homework guide can be found on Google Classroom. Go to the “Classwork” tab and under “Tutorials and
Guidelines”, click on the “Class Rules and Guidelines”
B. Study the vocabulary words and prepare for a VOCABULARY QUIZ.
-You will need to know the spelling, definition, part of speech, and make an example sentence (with good
context clues)
*Before the test you need a vocabulary quiz sheet. Here’s how to print it.
1. Go to your Google Classroom.
2. Click on the “Classwork” tab and in the “Essential Worksheets” section, print the “Vocabulary Test
Sheet.”

WORDLY WISE 3000

A. Have your books.

WONDERS
A. Read pgs. 69-83
B. Complete “Respond to Reading” on pg. 85
-Use the RACE Method as much as possible when answering questions..
C. Read Out Loud (pg. 69-70) - Read it at least 2 times on two separate days
-For example, read it 2 times on Saturday and 2 times on Sunday. You should notice improvements to
your reading on your second day. Focus on reading accurately and with a natural speaking voice.

WRITING Grade 5 (Core Skills)

A. Have your book.

PEA-I Writing Book - Essay - “What is the greatest invention ever created? Why?”
A. Complete your brainstorm on pg. 21.
B. Complete an outline of the introduction and body 1 on pg. 22.
C. Write the first draft of your INTRODUCTION and BODY 1 on pg. 23.
D. Turn all of these in to Google Classroom.
-Turn in a PDF of all of your completed work. You may also type your first draft.
 COMPREHENSION MATTERS
A. Have your book.

WOW list and Spelling and Grammar Sheet

A. Have your sheets.

SPEECH CONTEST
A. A finalist will be chosen on day 2 of this week.
-If time permits, we might practice today but don’t count on it.
-Work on expressing emotion, timing, and gestures.
-A copy of the speeches can be found on Google Classroom.

DAY 2 - Complete at home before class

be asked to turn it in.

A. Complete pg. 49
B. Study the vocabulary words from day 1 and prepare for a Fill-in-the-blank story quiz.
-After the test, turn in a PDF of your answers into Google Classroom.

WORDLY WISE 3000

A. Have your book.

SCIENCE
A. Read pgs. 110-116 2 times.
B. Write an outline for pgs. 110-113 and answer the Lesson Review questions #1-5 on pg. 117.
-Write your answers in your Science notebook.
-Use the RACE Method as much as possible when answering questions.

WRITING Grade 5 (Core Skills)

A. Complete pgs. 18-19
-Do “WRITE AWAY” for pg. 19 only.

NOVEL - CRICKET IN TIMES SQUARE

A. Read pgs. 47-66.
B. In your workbook, complete pgs. 27-30.
-On pg. 31, write a 1-2 sentence main idea (important idea) sentence for chapters 7 & 8.
C. Read Out Loud (pg. 47-48) - Read it at least 2 times on two separate days
-For example, read it 3 times on Monday and 2 times on Tuesday. You should notice improvements to
your reading on your second day. Focus on reading accurately and with a natural speaking voice.
