04 Assignment -The Fifties

Mia Ramboldt
Some of the political and social aspects in the 1950s that is shown in Part 1 of the novel is the
effects of World War II ( the 1950s were a decade of atomic tests and regional wars; racial
segregation; government censorship and persecution; subtly enforced social orthodoxy; and
building angst”, paragraph 6) and when it was talking about its economy and the technological
differences in the 50s, but the story mainly presented censorship, It also presented the effects
that World War II had on society and the burning of books that took place during that time of
World War ll the novel and the handout both talk about how Hitler and the effects he had on
everyone during that time.

I think the author introduces us o Montag at this time of his life when he encounters Clarisse
and confronts Mildred’s overdose to start creating conflict and introduce the big turning point
of the story when we come to find out what the problem really is.
