Turkey’s folk music

Location
● In the northern hemisphere
● Located both in Western Asia and Southeastern Europe
● Is bordered by Atlantic Ocean
● Euphrates is the longest river in turkey (about 1,740 miles)
● Mount Ararat is the tallest mountain in turkey (about 16,854 ft.)
Instruments
Bağlama ● The most commonly used
string folk instrument in
Turkey
● Has three main parts called
Tekne, Gögüs and Sap.
● Also referred to as saz
● played with a pick or fingers
● Has one thumb hole and up to eight
Zurna

● sound is loud and striden
● Has a reed at the top
● Is a very common instrument in
Turkey
● Is usually played outside
KABAK KEMANE ● One of the oldest Turkish bowed
instruments
● The back bowl and the neck of
kemane is made of gourd or wood
● Is similar to a violin
● Is played with a bow
● Is known as an open harp
● Outer frame made out of
wood, and strings are wire,
Çeng
often replaced in the
modern day by nylon, or
metal
● Is not as common today
● Is used in many Turkish folk
songs
● To play you pluck to strings
with your fingers

songs there are words.
There is a fast rhythm.the
melody is very repetitious.
There are many folk songs
from turkey, but a very
popular one is yaylanin
soguk suyu.
