ELECTRICAL MEASUREMENTS AND INSTRUMENTATION
(EEE)
Time: 3 hours Max. Marks: 70
Note: 1. This question paper contains two parts A and B.
2. Part- A is Compulsory which carries 20 marks. Answer all Questions in part A.
3. Part – B consists 5 units.Answer any one question from each unit. Each question
carries 10 marks and may have a, b, c as sub questions.

PART- A (20Marks)

also derive the torque equation for PMMC instrument
b Explain deflecting system, controlling system and 5M CO1 BL2

3 The law of deflection of a moving iron ammeter is 10M CO1 BL5
given by I = 40n amperes where θ is the deflection in
radian and n is a constant. The self-inductance when
the meter current is zero is 10mH. The spring
constant is 0.16 Nm/rad.
(a) Determine an expression for self-inductance of the
meter as a function of θ and n.
(b) With n=0.75 calculate the meter current and the
deflection that corresponds to a self-inductance of
60mH.

4 a) Define the following terms as used for instrument 5M CO1 BL2

b Describe the steps for measurements of unknown 5M CO1 BL3

type potentiometer. How is it standardized? What are M 2

phase shifting transformer with neat sketch?

Indicate how the power factor is determined. Draw

7 a) Explain the construction and working principle of 5M CO2 BL2
operation of single phase induction type energy
meter.
b A 230 V single phase watt hour meter has a constant 5M CO2 BL5
) load of 4 A passing through it for 6 hours at unity
power factor. If the meter makes 2208 revolutions
during this period, what is the meter constant in
revolutions per kWh. Calculate the power factor of
the load if the number revolutions made by the meter
are 1472 when passing at 230 V and 5 A for 4 hours

8 a) Draw the circuit diagram and phasor diagram of 5M CO1 BL4
Anderson's bridge under balanced Conditions. Also,
derive the equations under balanced conditions
b Derive the equations of balance for Schering bridge. 5M CO1 BL4
) Draw the phasor diagram for under balance
condition.

9 The four arms of a Wheatstone bridge are as follows: 10M CO1 BL5
AB=100 ohm; BC=10 ohm; CD=4 ohm; DA=50 ohm.
The galvanometer has a resistance of 20 ohm and is
connected across BD. A source of 10V dc is
connected across AC. Find the current through the
galvanometer. What should be the resistance in the
arm DA for no current through the galvanometer?
Derive the necessary condition.
UNIT-V
1 a) With neat sketch describe the working of electrostatic 5M CO3 BL2
0 focusing system in CRT.
b Explain the method of finding phase, frequency 5M CO3 BL3
) relationship of two waveforms using Lissajous
figures.

) Derive an expression for the output voltage of a
wheat stone bridge when one of the arms is a strain
