A Lonely Heart

…I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee (Hebrews 13:5 KJV)

To think of growing old and being lonely is a disheartening thought. The

joys of hearing the sounds of children, young people, and family members
will provide some comfort.

An elderly man facing toward the end of his life sat in his chair all alone.
He had been robbed of his dear faithful company and visitor – his brother.
As he unfolded the story of his his brother who was surprisingly older
(over 90) than he was, who had walked to his mail box to retrieve his mail
and fell, breaking his neck. His brother was at that moment in surgery as
he shared his story to me. Urging me to sit down, I sensed that he wanted
someone to be with him during his time of loneliness and concern. As I
sat, he was filled with questions, which I felt that were meant to detain
me. Indulgently, I sat with him knowing full well that he needed someone
to listen. I would be that presence with him for the moment.

God’s ear is always ready to listen to our slightest word. He knows what
we at thinking, yet he loves to hear us share our thoughts and requests.
He will be a presence to us when there is no one to listen. In the darkest
of night, He is thee. In the storm, He is there. He will never leave us nor
forsake us as friends do often. Some people only need someone to listen
to them – they are lonely. God is omnipresent and we can depend on Him
to always be present for us. Kidzministry.net 2011 Rev. Jeanne McIntosh
