Course and Section: BSE 2-1E Instructor: Ms. Marielex Sabela

Post-Test #1
Read the questions and instructions carefully. Kindly write your answer in an A4 size.

1. Given the traditional/conventional concept of literacy, how literate are you?

I would say I’m average, there are still some words I don’t understand but I can just
look at it in dictionary. It’s not just about the knowledge for me, it’s also about skills, from my
personal experience I think I’m better than most. I think I’m literate enough for college; I was
able to finish my Practical Research subjects in high school and there still room for
improvements.

2. How deep is your level of comprehension?

Reading comprehension is the ability to process information that we have read and
understand its meaning. There are six levels: literal, inferential, appreciative, critique, evaluative,
and essential. I think I am in between critique and evaluative, I am still struggling to Response to
a text based on author’s language, values, imagery, style and purpose.

3. As a pre-service teacher, what kind of written materials should you be able to read
and understand? Are you reading these materials? How well can you understand
them?

As a pre-service teacher, we should be able to read textbook and other literatures. I

have a tough time understanding these materials, because I don’t really like to read. I’m very
lazy so I mostly use google and Microsoft words for my homework.

4. Which of the new literacies are you knowledgeable in? Which of the new literacies
do you lack knowledge in?

I’m in knowledge Media and Cyber/Digital Literacies, I00 love technology I often use it
in texting, email, social networking, photo sharing, video sharing and online searching. What I
lack knowledge in though is with Ecoliteracy and Artistic and Creative Literacy, I’m not good in
arts, painting, drawing, designing and photography.

5. Although reading education in the Philippines aims to develop Functional/Practical

literacy in learners, what level of literacy is being developed when classroom practices
focus more on memorization rather than understanding and application?

Basic Literacies is the level of literacy that is being developed when classroom focus
more on memorization rather than understanding. When you focus more on memorization,
you will forget what you memorized, because memorization is just a quick task.

That temporary task of study is meaningless. Whereas, in Functional or Practical

Literacy you really learn something, the learning of it has understandable meaning for you to
actual perform it in everyday tasks.
