Q 1: Which Type of Maintenance consideration is applicable here and explain in details the justification
of its application and how and when is the other Type applied?

ANS: In this situation the type of maintenance which is applicable is unscheduled maintenance because it is
happened suddenly. This problem which was just happened before flight was unpredictable so it will fall in the
category of unscheduled maintenance. On the other hand it could be scheduled maintenance if the problem was
due to flight hours or air-ground cycles but it was unpredictable so it is unscheduled maintenance.

Q 2: After consulting the relevant Management Technique, you advise the Operating Crew to Taxi back
and park the Aircraft at the Maintenance bay because the procedure requires “visual inspection of the
Rudder surface for proper movement before departure”. Your Engineering Manager wants to know,
which Management Technique you used in your decision making and why were others not considered,
identifying your understanding about all of them.

ANS: I would use 2ND technique which is LRU (Line Replaceable Unit). The other techniques includes
equipment redundancy and MEL (Minimum Equipment List). Equipment redundancy is not applicable in this
scenario because aircrafts doesn’t comes with any redundancy of rudder. MEL is also not applicable because
rudder is the primary flight control so it is not mentioned even in MMEL (Master Minimum Equipment List).
