1
In our life, most especially during our high school life, we
have been into so many situations where we need to
make a big decision. Decisions that lead us to do the
right things or the wrong ones. Decisions that can affect
our lives in the future. As a human being, we are prone
for making mistakes in our actions or decisions.
It is our nature of being a human to commit mistakes and to learn from it, one of the
famous Filipino saying, “I am just a human being who commit mistakes”. Committing
mistakes is not that bad, because somehow we learned something in exchange. But
as humans, we have the ability to know what is right and what is wrong.
But how do we know if we commit actions or decisions are right or wrong? How can
we differentiate right from wrong and good from bad? It is because of our morality,
which is knowing how to accurately calculate the differences between right and wrong,
and good and bad.
There are many benefits of being right and good, and there are also many negative
consequences that are results of being bad or wrong. The more you understand these
differences, the more you will benefit, and less you will suffer from mistakes.
Nowadays, it is common for the youth to commit right and wrong decisions or actions.
For example, some of the high school students do not really care about having high
grades in school and only care that they are passed. This somehow causes them not
to be prioritized for their preferred courses in college and also grabbing the
opportunities for achieving scholarship program. Those who have good grades are the
ones who are easily selected in a course than the one who have low grades.
Therefore, whatever decisions that we make in our life have different consequences.

2

What’s In

Explaining that oneself and others are capable to commit right and wrong actions or
decisions is an important thing to learn and to be valued among the learners. As part
of the classroom guidance, learners are encouraged to learn and apply what constitute
good actions or decisions, and to understand that everyone is prone to commit right
or wrong actions and decisions. They are also expected to recognize famous person

Activity 2: Singtunado

Acitivity will help you check how much you know about why
humans commit mistakes and that regret is always in the end.

Directions: Sing the song entitled “Doon Lang” by Nonoy Zuniga. Then analyze
carefully the lyrics of the song and answer the guide questions below the lyrics.

What is It

In Activity 1, you were able to learn that if we do not study well we will
tread the path of repentance. In this part of module, you will discuss that
everyone is prone in committing mistake. Also, you will recognize some
of famous persons who made right and wrong actions and decisions,
and lastly to learn to value the importance of making right actions and
decisions in life.

Why everyone tends to commit mistake in his/her action or

decision?

Committing mistakes is a human nature that we cannot avoid doing, in short, nobody
is perfect. Whatever your position in life you are not exempted on it. Even the
president, scientist, and other influential person can make mistakes in their decisions
and actions. Everyone has the ability to commit mistake, therefore, we should not
laugh at them or ridicule them, but instead we should remind them, because,
reminders are medicine for the forgetful.

The reasons behind the mistakes that we made is because we are unable to equally
weigh evidences that we receive. Sometimes human being commits mistake because
of rushing decisions and actions, and we all know that rushing things is always a bad
idea and always end up in a disaster. Mistake in our decisions is because we are being
so self-centered, we only care of our own ideas and we reject other people’s insights
and ideas. But sometimes, accepting other people’s ideas may also affect in our
decisions or actions most especially influential people that is close to us. Our own
feelings can also lead us to commit mistakes as we can get carried away by anger,
sadness, happiness, and jealous.

FAMOUS PERSONS WHO MADE RIGHT ACTIONS AND DECISIONS IN LIFE

1. Miriam Defensor-Santiago was a Filipina academic, lawyer, judge, author, and

stateswoman who served in all three branches of the Philippine government. She
was a successful person and should be an inspiration to all of us. But she did not
become successful instantly, she works hard for it and did well in school to
become valedictorian in elementary, high school, and undergraduate high school.

2. Jack Ma experienced many failures in life but still never give up to achieve his
dreams. He wanted to go to college but always having trouble in the entrance
exam, but he did not easily give up and after a third attempt he passed. Upon his
graduation he was rejected for over a dozens of positions but when he saw an
opportunity to bring the World Wide Web to China, his first reaction was to think
he could add value and do something monumental and he did created Alibaba
from scratch and become one of the richest men in the world. Even after many

8
failures he did not easily give up against challenges of life and that’s his best
decision in his life.

FAMOUS PERSON TO COMMIT MISTAKE IN THE HISTORY

1. Albert Einstein known as one of the famous and brilliant scientist in the history
is still able to commit many mistakes in his life, proving that anyone is prone to
commit mistake. One of his mistakes that he considered his biggest blunder is
that he made up the cosmological constant. He made it so that his equations
would fit the data that was available back then and he wanted to prove that the
universe is static and unchanging place.

2. Abraham Lincoln known as one of the Presidents of United States of America

had made a mistakes that is considerably one of the worst failures in America.
On 1864, when the presidential election approached, republicans thought that
restoring the Union under terms of generous reconciliation was a high priority.
Thus, Lincoln and the Republican Party nominated Democrat Andrew Johnson
to be his running mate under Union Party and ditching previous running mate
Hannibal Hamlin, a reliable and anti-slavery republican. But when Lincoln was
assassinated in 1865 that decision turned from uncertain to an absolute
catastrophe.

3. Martin Luther King Jr. was an African American minister and activist known for
being an influential person and became the most visible spokesperson of the 19th
century. Even MLK had his share of personal flaws as he was also known to have
some marital infidelities and he had weakness for women. He succumbed to the
temptation more than once. He also admitted that some of his theological
artworks are partially plagiarized.

4. Michael Jackson was an American singer, songwriter, and dancer. Even the
King of Pop commits mistakes and he acknowledges it. Michael Jackson said
that he made a ‘terrible mistake” after the incident where he holds his young son
over the railing of a fourth floor balcony at a Berlin hole to show fans who wanted
to see the child.

5. Lebron James, Sr. is an American professional basketball player currently

playing for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association. He is
considered to be one of the greatest basketball players in NBA history. Even a
greatest of all time commits mistakes and in basketball we found so many
mistakes that can happen. But one mistake that LeBron himself did not want to
do again is what he did in the 2006 playoffs. In the game 6 of first round between
the Cavaliers and the Wizards, in overtime, the wizards where down one and
Gilbert Arenas is in the free throw line to tie the game up, after missing the first
shot James walked to Arenas and touched his shoulder and said “if you miss this,
you are going home”. After the incident, many viewed James’ actions as
unsportsmanlike and extremely disrespectful.

9
What is the importance of making good actions or decisions?

The ability to make good decisions can help us become happier people, thus better at
human relations. When we understand how we feel about a certain decision we have
to make, we can look realistically at all possible solutions from cognitive level, which
allows us to also make better decisions. Good decision-making is one of the most
important life skills children need to at an early age. Making good decisions gives us
good outcomes and we never regret the consequences of the decisions that we made.
For example, focus on your study and do well in school and you will have a good future
rather than to not study hard and fail.

Here are some benefits of good decision making:

● It helps to save money, time, and energy.
● It gives a huge sense of individual achievement and fulfillment.
● It stands you out and make you outstanding.
● It Increases confidence level.
● It raises professional profile and advancement.

Making mistakes and errors is part of life and we cannot change it but what we can do
is to learn from our mistakes and make sure we will never do it again. Also, we should
find a way on how to lessen the chances of making mistakes because it will be vital
for us and gives us a better life. Here are some tips and advice to lessen the chances
of making mistake:

● Do what you think is best for everyone. Always do your best.

● Make critical thinking when deciding on a big decision.
● Do not rush things in making your decisions.
● Always be rational.
● Always think ahead of the consequences of your actions.
● Never fight for things you are not sure if truthful or right.
● Listen to other people’s opinions.
● Avoid making decisions that is caused by emotions like anger and sadness.
● Review past decisions that may help in your current situations.
● Never do something you did not think of carefully.
