Block Diagrams
Control systems are represented by block diagrams. Complicated
systems have interconnected subsystems. We generally model the
whole system as one transfer function. In addition to block diagrams,
signal flow graphs are also used to represent systems. Reduction of
complicated systems require Mason’s Gain Formula.

Block Diagrams Reduction & Finding
Equivalent Transfer Function
Example: Finding Equivalent Transfer Function

Finding Equivalent Transfer Function

C(s) = G3(s)G2(s)E(s) (1)
and
E(s) = G1(s)R(s) - H2(s)H1(s)C(s) (2)
(2) In (1) and neglecting (s)=>
C = G3G2 [G1R - H2H1C]
 C + G3G2H2H1C = G3G2G1R
 C [1+G3G2H2H1] = G3G2G1R
 C/R = G3G2G1 / [1+G3G2H2H1] = G(s)
