Figure 1. The distance (mm) of each dart from the center of target for each 12 trials. Each
trial is the average of 3 tosses.

2. Dependent variable: the records the distance of each dart from the center of the target.

Independent variable: number of trials

3. Learning is evident in group data based on the decreasing line (curve moved to the

right). It is because the mean of group data is getting lower; first trial is 171.7, 6th trial is

136.7, and last trial is 106. Also, the standard deviation is decreasing; first trial is 89.79,

6th trial 70.37, last trial is 41.67, which means the group data is getting close to the

mean. Therefore, group data is getting better.

4. When we have more date, the standard deviation is more accurate. It is because the

more data can provide the less variation. So, the group data is more constant so that we

can see the decreasing trend. However, it is hard to see the trend for two individual data

because it goes more up and down.

5. Since this graph is positive skewed mean is bigger than median, which indicates that the

mean is not representative for this date as the extreme score can have an effect on the

mean. So, in this case, it is better to use median rather mean. Please see the marks of

median for trial 1 and 12 on the graph.

6. For trial 12, Group median: 116 Group mean: 106

Median is higher than mean which indicates that this is negative skewed

7. The larger standard deviation indicates that the data are spread far from the mean,

which also says that lesser variability. In this data, the standard deviation is decreasing,

which means the data is getting close to the mean and the variability is getting lower.
