PROJECT PROPOSAL

TITLE
School Intensive Training on Campus Journalism for Division Schools Press Conference
(DSPC) Qualifiers
October 7 - 8, 2016

RATIONALE

Something that embraces all forms in which and through which the news and the
comments on the news reach the public is Journalism.

Journalists keenly observe and report history in the making. They provide background to
important decisions of the leaders of society. They also find the best goods and services for the
public through advertisements and give predictions of future weather conditions.

Campus Journalism is an enjoyable activity of the staff of the campus paper in collecting,
organizing, and presenting news, writing editorials, columns, features, and literary articles,
taking pictures, cartooning, copy reading, proofreading, dummying, and writing headlines.

To train the teachers, school paper advisers and young journalists about these
opportunities will help them to understand the legal and technical issues at hand, and provide
ongoing support and a platform for tracking derivative uses as they implement these journalistic
practices.

OBJECTIVES

GENERAL OBJECTIVE

To deduce how newspaper management and campus journalism have transformed media
operations, news dissemination infrastructure, media contents and practices in the society.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

1. To demonstrate understanding of the importance of journalism by expressing it through

different journalistic endeavors and approaches;
2. To equip the teachers and school paper advisers with additional skills in managing school
publication; and
3. To prepare the young journalists on the upcoming Division Press Conference and to foster
camaraderie and harmonious working relationship in the performance of their duties and
responsibilities.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Journalism generally covers three (3) channels or areas of mass communication: print
(newspapers, magazines, pamphlets, books brochures, etc.); audio (radio broadcast); and audio
visual (television programs, movies film strips). It aims to inform the public through the news
coverage; influence and mold public opinion; amuse or entertain the public; and serve and
promote community welfare as a whole.
Campus paper, on the other hand, is a publication put out by the learner staff in school. It
functions as aid to the learners, school and community. It develops learners’ power of
observation and discrimination concerning relative merits of news articles and it also educates
the community as to work of the school.

IMPORTANCE OF THE STUDY

The school intensive training is designed to map how newspaper management has
empowered journalists to be effective representatives of the public interest. This will be
completed using the scope, nature, and functions of journalism and school publication
management. The documentary will be stored in digital format for future references.

ESTIMATED TARGET RECIPIENTS

The immediate beneficiaries from the school intensive training will be the school
publication advisers, and the winning young journalists. Embedded in the program is a
mechanism for developing long-term process or practice of building up advantages in campus
journalism reporting with follow-up training provided by the school publication advisers.

PROPOSED DATE

The target date for this seminar-workshop will be on October 7, 2016, 1:00 – 5:00 PM
and October 8, 2016, 8:00 – 5:00 PM.
