How to Write a Balanced Essay (for a 2-sided argument)

1. Introduction (always first)

2. 1st perspective – [A]: (PLUS) – proof, arguments, supporting reasons

3. 2nd perspective – [B]: (PLUS) – proof, arguments, supporting reasons

4. YOUR perspective/view – Maybe [A]; Maybe [B]; Maybe [C] – proof, arguments,
supporting reasons

5. Conclusion

Turkish people don’t like non-Turkish (foreign) food.

-1st perspective: true – Turkish people don’t like….
-2nd perspective: not true – Turkish people DO like foreign food
-3rd perspective: (Rabia’s) perspective

Example Essay

Introduction
In Turkey, there are many kinds of different foods, but like every country, Turkey also
doesn’t have many other kinds of foods. For example, Turkish foods don’t have lots of spices
(like Indian food) or raw fish (like Japanese food). In Turkey the question of whether Turkish
people like foreign food is often debated. Many people say that Turkish people do not like
foreign food, and we should examine this argument in detail.
(1st perspective: [A])
Many people argue that Turkish don’t like foreign food. For example, it’s very hard to
find an Indian restaurant in Istanbul. It’s also very hard to find a Japanese, Chinese, Korean,
or Thai restaurant. Many foreigners who come to Istanbul try to open restaurants and have to
close very soon after because no customers come………

(2nd perspective: [B])

Some people say that Turkish people like foreign foods, (or at least like SOME foreign
foods). For example, Turkish people like Italian food. Turkish food is very similar to Greek
food. Turkish people also like American food, like pizza, hamburgers, hot dogs, and chips
and cola. So they say that actually, Turkish people DO like international food.
(Rabia’s perspective – Agrees with [A], and disagrees with [B])
In my view, it is correct to say that Turkish people don’t like foreign foods. This is
because they don’t like different tastes from the taste of Turkish food. Foreign people use
different ingredients, and Turkish people don’t like these ingredients. It’s true that they
sometimes like hamburgers, but hamburgers are fast food, and you can find fast food, like
McDonald’s, in every country. Also, hamburgers in Turkey use the same tastes and
ingredients as Turkish food, so they are not foreign food.

Conclusion
In Turkey, because of its long history, there is already a rich culture of regional food,
which does not share characteristics with foreign food like Indian food or Japanese food.
Maybe things will change in the future with more travel and globalization, but in the present
day, that’s not the case. I hope that things will improve in the future.
