DOCUMENT INFORMATION
The RS-590 and RS-590-MAT Tube Stand Service Manual (this manual) is designed by
Carestream, to serve as a supplement to its companion document, the Siemens Tube
Stand Technical Manual (order No. 7042000 VFT 01S 00).
In general, this manual (hereinafter "Supplement,"), is written to closely correspond
with the Siemens Tube Stand Technical Manual (hereinafter "Technical Manual"), with
respect to topics and its organization. The Supplement defers (by reference) to the
descriptions found in the Technical Manual, with regard to the assembly of the struc-
tural system, and mechanical aspects of the positioning axes of the RS-590/RS-590-
MAT Tube Stand (hereinafter referred to as the Tube Stand). Service instructions
related to controls (depending on handgrip option), and Power Supply installation are
found in the Supplement, or when appropriate, in the ancillary documents, such as
TechVision Service Manual (DC30-049), or the Power Supply Installation Instructions
(DC30-014).
Assembly, installation and calibration issues related to the Tube Head, and associated
equipment integrated by Carestream are addressed in the Supplement. Topics, in the
Supplement, which are further discussed in the Technical Manual, are limited to situa-
tions where the equipment is integrated. The reader should understand that the Sup-
plement only provides service and assembly information for the portions of the Tube
Stand, where Carestream equipment or technology has replaced, altered or enhanced
that which is present in the Siemens system.

INSTALLATION
This supplement defers to the Technical Manual for all installation instructions, except
for those pertaining to wiring and connectivity of the power supply, and integration of
the Carestream tube head assembly, including handgrip devices.

STARTUP
Procedures pertaining to checking and aligning the mechanical system, including
bearings, end stops, collimator adjustments, alignment of the table and wall stand,
are provided in the Technical Manual, or the collimator documentation.
TUBE HEAD ASSEMBLY
The RS-590 Tube Stand includes a Tube Head Assembly, designed by Carestream.
This consists of an X-ray tube, a collimator, and handgrip unit, which ultimately is
interfaced to the Siemens Tube Support Arm.
The X-ray tube, the collimator, and the handgrip unit are packaged separately, to
ensure that they are not damaged in transit. It is necessary for the installer to
physically mount these components using the interface bracket (with trunnion
rings), affixed at the factory, to the mounting plate of the Siemens Tube Support
Arm Assembly. The Tube Head assembly is built-up from the trunnion bracket,
once it is properly interfaced to the rotating element of the Siemens Tube Support
Arm.

NOTE: Additional information as to imple-

mentation of the Progeny Linear II and Linear IV
Automatic Collimators is provided in this manual
at Part Appendix.

When properly mounted, the tube can be oriented downward, or to the side, since
the rotating element serves as the mounting surface for the trunnion bracket
assembly.
Tube Head Assembly
The Tube Stand is integrated with Carestream ’s Tube Head Assembly,
and the following descriptions and figures show how the X-ray Tube is
attached to the Tube Support Arm of the Siemens Tube Stand (vertical
axis). Refer to the following figures, and proceed with assembly of the
tube:

RS-590 System Calibration

Selecting RS-590 Tubestand Calibration button in the Field Tech Options
menu, displays the Tubestand Calibration Menu:

Tubestand Calibration Menu

This screen offers five choices:
• Vertical 40" Detent - This feature provides a software-driven
detent, when the Tubestand Calibration item ("Vertical 40" Detent")
is set to "On". This functionality also requires that the X-ray tube is
pointed at the radiographic table, and the velocity of the vertical axis
is low and steady. When properly activated, the vertical axis will
stop at the 40" SID position.
• Handle Unlock Vertical Only - The brake release buttons ("pinky"
switches), imbedded in the handles of the Digital Touch Screen
Handgrip unit, can be configured to allow vertical movement only
when the Tubestand Calibration screen item is set to "On".
Otherwise, the buttons unlock all linear travel axes.
• Locking Speed Calibration - Adjusts the speed limit for lock
activation (200 mm/s, 175 mm/s, 150 mm/s, or 125 mm/s settings
are available). Note that the faster the limit setting, a more abrupt
"stop" will occur when the tube support is moved to either a
transverse or longitudinal detent.

NOTE: The displayed SID is the truncation of the dis-
tance to the nearest whole inch value. It may be nec-
essary to measure at a fraction of an inch added to
both 10" and 40" measurements so that the whole
inch display on the Digital Touch Screen Handgrip
more closely matches other SID measurement and dis-
play means. If acceptable precision cannot be
achieved in the display relative to another, contact
Carestream Service Department. If the SID display
does not move in concert with the tube/handgrip ver-
tical travel, check the connection path from the height
potentiometer on the tube stand and the Digital Touch
Screen Handgrip.

4. Exit to the Main Screen, and verify the SID indication on the Digital
Touch Screen Handgrip screen correctly tracks the height of the tube.

Calibrate Touch Screen

Pressing the Calibrate Touch Screen button in the Service Options
menu (see figure below) displays the Calibrate Touch Panel Screen:

Calibrate Touch Panel Screen

This procedure will reset the calibration of finger press and location on
the screen. When the above screen appears, follow the instructions; press
your finger on the cross as it appears in various positions on the screen,
each time holding it until the cross moves to a different location or the
calibration ends. There is a two-second pause after the calibration ends
while the calibration constants are permanently stored. Note that this
function is normally done at the factory and does not need to be
repeated, as the Digital Touch Screen Handgrip remembers the settings
while the power is off.
