DOCUMENT INFORMATION
The RS-590 and RS-590-MAT Tube Stand Service Manual (this manual) is designed by
Carestream, to serve as a supplement to its companion document, the Siemens Tube
Stand Technical Manual (order No. 7042000 VFT 01S 00).
In general, this manual (hereinafter "Supplement,"), is written to closely correspond
with the Siemens Tube Stand Technical Manual (hereinafter "Technical Manual"), with
respect to topics and its organization. The Supplement defers (by reference) to the
descriptions found in the Technical Manual, with regard to the assembly of the struc-
tural system, and mechanical aspects of the positioning axes of the RS-590/RS-590-
MAT Tube Stand (hereinafter referred to as the Tube Stand). Service instructions
related to controls (depending on handgrip option), and Power Supply installation are
found in the Supplement, or when appropriate, in the ancillary documents, such as
TechVision Service Manual (DC30-049), or the Power Supply Installation Instructions
(DC30-014).
Assembly, installation and calibration issues related to the Tube Head, and associated
equipment integrated by Carestream are addressed in the Supplement. Topics, in the
Supplement, which are further discussed in the Technical Manual, are limited to situa-
tions where the equipment is integrated. The reader should understand that the Sup-
plement only provides service and assembly information for the portions of the Tube
Stand, where Carestream equipment or technology has replaced, altered or enhanced
that which is present in the Siemens system.

INSTALLATION
This supplement defers to the Technical Manual for all installation instructions, except
for those pertaining to wiring and connectivity of the power supply, and integration of
the Carestream tube head assembly, including handgrip devices.
STARTUP
Procedures pertaining to checking and aligning the mechanical system, including
bearings, end stops, collimator adjustments, alignment of the table and wall stand,
are provided in the Technical Manual, or the collimator documentation.
TUBE HEAD ASSEMBLY
The RS-590 Tube Stand includes a Tube Head Assembly, designed by Carestream.
This consists of an X-ray tube, a collimator, and handgrip unit, which ultimately is
interfaced to the Siemens Tube Support Arm.
The X-ray tube, the collimator, and the handgrip unit are packaged separately, to
ensure that they are not damaged in transit. It is necessary for the installer to
physically mount these components using the interface bracket (with trunnion
rings), affixed at the factory, to the mounting plate of the Siemens Tube Support
Arm Assembly. The Tube Head assembly is built-up from the trunnion bracket,
once it is properly interfaced to the rotating element of the Siemens Tube Support
Arm.
When properly mounted, the tube can be oriented downward, or to the side, since
the rotating element serves as the mounting surface for the trunnion bracket
assembly.
Tube Head Assembly
The Tube Stand is integrated with Carestream ’s Tube Head Assembly,
and the following descriptions and figures show how the X-ray Tube is
attached to the Tube Support Arm of the Siemens Tube Stand (vertical
axis). Refer to the following figures, and proceed with assembly of the
tube:

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
The Digital Touch Screen Handgrip is shipped fully assembled. It is designed as an
enhanced capability operator control option, specifically for the RS-590 Tube
Stand, and is easily installed.
The following paragraph contains installation procedures for Digital Touch Screen
Handgrip.
Digital Touch Screen Handgrip Installation Procedure
When supplied with the Tube Stand, the Digital Touch Screen Handgrip is
shipped separately, and must be mounted to the tube head assembly, fol-
lowing the instructions provided in "Tube Head Assembly".
Refer to the figure below, and the Interconnection Diagram for electrical
connections required.

SYSTEM CONFIGURATION/CALIBRATION
The Digital Touch Screen Handgrip has Service Modes that allow the X-ray Techni-
cian or the Field Service Technician to modify the operation of Tube Stand, and allow
it to be calibrated. The procedures that follow describe, in order, how to:
• Access either the Field Tech Service Mode or Operator Service Mode options
• Use each of the Field Tech Service Mode functions and utilities (including
model-specific utilities for the Tube Stand).
• Use each of the Operator Service functions and utilities.
ACCESSING SERVICE MODE
Calibration and configuration can only be performed by accessing the Digital
Touch Screen Handgrip Service Mode. To gain access to the Service Mode, pass-
word entry is required. This is to prevent unintended and/or unauthorized
changes to system settings. To access Service Mode, proceed as follows:
1. On the Digital Touch Screen Hand-
grip Display, tap twice within one
second on the Quantum Logo.
2. Once the Service Mode has been selected, the Password Screen will appear
(see figure below):

3. Use the numeric "touch" keypad to enter the Service Password (58623), then
press ENTER. To start again, push Clear.
NOTE: Digital Touch Screen Handgrip returns to
the previous screen when an incorrect password is
entered, or after 15 seconds with no keys pressed.
Upon successful entry of the Service Password, the Service Options screen is dis-
played, as described below.
SERVICE OPTIONS
The Digital Touch Screen Handgrip calibration process is contingent upon the fol-
lowing configuration characteristics:
1. Whether, or not, the X-ray System is integrated with a computer-based imag-
ing system.
2. Whether the system employs a Carestream image receptor or a Carestream
receptor.
The FieldTech Options screens provide access to all of the configurable parame-
ters in the System. Note that the FieldTech Options screen (below), shows options
available if the "Down" button is used to scroll the screen.
The following information describes the purpose of each button on the Screen.
• Device Configuration: Select this button to verify or modify the
Digital Touch Screen Handgrip’s IP Address, Subnet Mask, or Default
Gateway value.
• RS590 Calibration: Allows calibration of physical orientation
parameters for the handgrip (RS-590-LD/RS-590-LDM).
• Language Configuration: Touch this button to access a menu of
languages which can be enabled for all displays and nomenclature.
• Regional Configuration: Touch this button to set displays of
measurements to metric or standard values.
