○ Setup Google Tag Manager and Create a Container
■ Go to https://tagmanager.google.com/, sign in, and click “Create
Account”
■ Fill out the Account Setup form, then add your website URL in the
“Container name” field and (in most cases) select “Web” as your “Target
platform”
■ Click “Create” and agree to the Terms of Service
■ Install the GTM Code Snippets. First, take the <head> code snippet, and
paste it between the head tags of each page you want to track. Then, add
the <body> code snippet to the pages you want to track.
Note: Most proprietary website platforms, enable you to just add the
tracking codes once (e.g. Wix, Shopify) and they will populate on all
pages. Check your platform.
○ Install Google Analytics
■ Now, go to https://analytics.google.com, login (if needed) and get to the
Admin view. You’re going to create an Account, which manages a
Property (e.g. a website). Then, you can set up Views for your properties
as needed.

■ When you’re in the Admin view, click “+ Create Account”, name it, and
click “Next.”
■ Select what you’d like to measure, click “Next.” Now, Name your
property and finish filling out the Property details form. Click “Create”
and accept the Terms of Service. You should see a page that shows you
your property’s Analytics ID now (e.g. UA-150522363-1)
■ Now, go back to your Google Tag Manager interface and click “Add a new
tag” under “New Tag”. Name your tag and click “Tag Configuration”.
Most often, you’ll want to select Google Analytics: Universal Analytics.
■ Under “Track Type,” select Page View. The Page View tag will give you
the base level of reporting in Google Analytics. Now, under Google
Analytics Settings, select “New Variable…”, name it (e.g. “GA Page
Views”) and paste your Google Analytics Tracking ID under Tracking ID.
Click “Save.”
■ Click “Triggering” and select “All Pages”. Then Save.
○ How to set up a click event (optional)
■ Navigate to your Google Tag Manager interface and select “Variables”.
Next to “Built-in Variables”, click “Configure”.
■ Select “Click Classes” and “Click ID”.
■ Now, go back to the main GTM interface, click “Triggers” and select
“New”. In the Trigger Configuration menu, select “All Elements” under
“Click”.
■ Now, select “Some Clicks” and define the class of elements for which
you’d like to track (e.g. course-listing). Now, name the click event (e.g.
“Get Course Details”).
■ Now, go back to the main GTM interface, click “Tags”, and click “New”.
Name it (e.g. “Course Detail Clicks”).
■ Now, configure the Tag. Click “Tag Configuration” and under “Track
Type”, select “Event”. Name the Category (e.g. “Courses”) and the action
(e.g. “Click”). Under “Label”, type {{Click ID}}. Add a value
(optional), leave “Non-Interaction Hit” as “False”, and under “Google
Analytics Settings”, select the settings you defined in the first part of this
tutorial.
■ Click in the “Triggering” space, and select the event you defined earlier in
this tutorial (e.g. “Get Course Details”). Click “Save”.
○ Install the Facebook Pixel
■ Go to https://business.facebook.com, login (if necessary), navigate to
Business Settings → Data Sources → Pixels. Click “+ Add” (if necessary) fill

out the short form. Click “Continue”, then “Set Up the Pixel Now”. Click
“Add Code Using Partner Integration” and select Google Tag Manager.
■ Click “Continue”, leave “Turn Off Automatic Advanced Matching” off,
click “Continue” again, and connect your Google Account. Make sure the
Google Tag Manager Account and Container look correct, then select
“Finish Setup”.
○ Add a Hotjar Tag (Similar Process for Many Third-party Pixels)
■ Sign into https://hotjar.com, navigate to “Sites & Organizations”, and
select a site or click “+ New Site”. Click “Tracking Code”.
■ Go back to the Google Tag Manager workspace and go to “Tags” → New.
Name the Tag “Hotjar”, click in the “Tag Configuration” space, and
navigate down to “Hotjar Tracking Code”. Copy and paste your Hotjar Site
ID into the field (e.g. 1236149).
■ Now, click in the “Triggering” space and select the “All Pages” + Page
View Type trigger we set up earlier. Click “Save”.
■ This type of installation works for many other data sources and plugins,
like LinkedIn Insights.
○ Publish Your Google Tag Manager
■ Go back to the Google Tag Manager main dashboard. Add a Version
Name (e.g. “Initial Analytics Setup”) and a short description of what
you’ve set up. Click “Publish”.

○ Note that (as of the creation of this course) you must be in the “Quick Creation”
ad workflow, not the “Guided Creation” workflow to access Dynamic Creative
and it is available with the following objectives: Brand Awareness, Reach, Traffic,
App Installs, Video Views, Lead Generation, and Conversions.
○ How to Launch a Dynamic Creative Ad Test
■ Menu → Create & Manage → Ads Manager
■ New Campaign → select Traffic as the objective → Name it
■ Create a new Ad Set → Name it
■ Create new Ad → Name it
■ Click “Save to Draft”
■ Set the Campaign Spending Limit (e.g. $100)
■ Click on the “Ad Set” on the right → toggle “Dynamic Creative”
■ Switch to “Lifetime Budget” → Make the end date within a few days
Note: you will probably need to get around 100k impressions if you want statistically
significant results. A high-quality test may cost you $300-400 depending on your
audience.
■ Select or build an Audience
■ Scroll up → click on the Ad link
■ Add images
Note: We’ll be using the three images labeled “Dynamic Test” in the practice files folder
if you want to follow along.
■ Add in your above-ad text creative variables
■ Add in your destination URL
■ Add in your headlines
■ Add in your newsfeed link descriptions
■ Turn on your Pixel (optional) → Publish

Eazl Growth Hacking Glossary


● A/B Test: measuring the impact of modifying a single variable (like an image, layout, or
string of text) in a digital environment.
● Acquisition (in Pirate Metrics): when a user has given you some way to identify them
(e.g. an email address or customer profile).
● Acquisition Channel: the pathway(s) through which potential customers discover and
interact with your products, services, or brand.
● Acquisition Content: the combination of headlines, sentences, calls-to-action, and
visuals that are used in tactics designed to start relationships with a new users.
● Activation (in Pirate Metrics): when a user has experienced using some version of your
product or service.
● Anchors (in Consumer Behavior): the common human tendency to rely on the first
piece of information offered (the "anchor") when making decisions.
● Ad (in Online Advertising): one unique combination of content components (e.g. URL,
headline, sentences, visual elements, and calls to action) distributed to an ad group.
● Ad Group (in Online Advertising): how the group of potential recipients of your ads are
defined within the ad system.
● Authentic: worthy of belief.
● Awareness (in Pirate Metrics): when a user visits a digital property for the first time.
● Bundling (in Product Management): customizing unique combinations of products,
services, and features to appeal to the needs of a specific persona.
● Buying Center: the group of people and factors that determine whether or not a
purchase is made.
● Campaign: a coordinated series of events carried out over a period of time in order to
achieve something.
● Campaign (in Online Advertising): where an online advertising effort’s budget and
method of distribution are set.
● Cohort (in Growth Hacking): a group of users usually bound together by their behavior
within a funnel.

● Content (in Analytics): your title for a unique combination of words and/or visual
elements used to attract users to a URL.
● Conversion Point: Where a user can decide to take some action that transitions them to
a lower stage of a marketing funnel.
● Cost per Click: the money spent paying for the distribution of an ad divided by the
number of unique clicks on the ad.
● Customer Acquisition Cost (or CAC): the sum of the costs associated with attracting a
new paying customer.
● Down-funnel Keywords: search queries which contain elements that reveal a relatively
high level of user intention.
● Dynamic Creative: Facebook’s process of creating different combinations of each
creative element of your ad and showing you what works best.
