When tran forthe unexpired term of Mayor this past November, ‘made it lea would be avalable to hear and help solve your concerns; and always represent the citizens and taxpayers ofthis treat cy, also believe in integrity and transparency inal city matters; and that we taxpayers are the reason for cty services and deserve to know how these huge gas ils came about. | wil try to answer to the best of my ality the major questions have received; and even ifthe answers are not what you want tohear, they are the tue facts WHY ARE THE GAS BILLS SO HIGH? The city went under contract with WTG GAS MARKETING, NC. to purchase gus through Oasis Pipeline to serve our cizens and businesses orginally In October 2017. ‘This past October the contract was once again renewed. Under this contract the rate at which the citys billed depends on each day's market price. The price for each day that our bill covers is used to calulate ‘that month’ average price, which is then what we are charged. Normally this does not cause an issue, but with the rat rising during the extreme cod, It caused the average rie to increase substantially. Due to the extreme cold temperatures for several days, gas market prices soared causing the city bil to balloon, WHY DOES THE CITY HAVE TO PAY THIS UNFAIR PRICE? The postive component isthe City distribution sytem had ga all month every day even in the extreme cold. The City fs under contract with this company currently in order to keep gas flowing. The izes and businesses expect gas to be availabe for their use. Only those using city ga are affected by ths gas pice and even though we are ‘rustrated with the bill and passing te charge onto gas customers, many citizens do not have gas sevice and we must begin a payment process. Once again, the Ciy staff and Counc will continue to meet with ‘other ities with the same issue. As we continue to fight for rele, we must continue to provide service andif relief becomes available, you wil be gen a credit on your portion of any rel given. WHAT IF | CANNOT PAY THE GAS BILL THIS MONTH? ur sta willbe availabe to answer «questions and assist you in a payment installment plan for upto 12 months. The bottom ine is: pay your ‘other wtity bls and pay as much as youcan toward the gs bil, Late fees and interest wil not be charged lunder the payment arrangement. PAY WHAT YOU CAN AS YOUR FINANCES ALLOW ON THE GAS BIL. In conclusion, the gas bil othe itis outrageous and will continue to ask our State and Federal leaders to join our request for roi. If relict becomes avaiable, gas customers wil receive a credit on their gas bill cizens deserve o be informed about city issues and get straight factual answers. | pledge to work ‘with staff and counel to pursue all options for financial elit and further options for gas service in the future to prevent this rom happening again.
