Water Pollution is one of the most

prevalent and harmful types of pollution.
Some of the main causes of water
pollution are - runoff from agricultural
activities, release of untreated sewage
and waste and toxic materials from
factories, domestic activities, etc.

Recycling, Renovation, Recharge and Reuse (4Rs) of waste water:
Urban sewage and sludge etc may be recycled and reused to generate
cheaper fuel, gas and electricity. Water Hyacinths, which are
extremely efficient in absorbing toxic materials from water, should be
planted along the bank of a water body. Chemical methods to clean
water such as ion exchange, reverse osmosis, precipitation and
coagulation must be performed before using water for household
purposes.
Industrial Regulations: Industrial waste disposal into water
bodies must be controlled. Thermal waste must be cooled
before being disposed in the water. Harmful and toxic materials
such as Mercury must not be disposed into water bodies near
cities. Governments must put checks on factories and
industries and prevent oil leakages, runoff of pesticides and
fertilisers, and pollution at point and non-point sources.
