CCW customer service professionals may be contacted by email:
customerservice@carlisleccw.com or phone: 888-229-0199

What is the best plaza waterproofing membrane?

CCW offers two excellent options, depending on the accessibility and restrictions
placed on the area.
If there are no access problems or restrictions on rooftop kettle use, CCW 500R 215-
mil reinforced hot rubberized-asphalt is the best waterproofing membrane system on
the market.
CCW MiraSEAL is also a great option. The 120-mil reinforced MiraSEAL is your go-
to product for projects with kettle access problems or those in locations with kettle
restrictions. CCW MiraSEAL is also recommended for us in areas with VOC restrictions
or projects where odor is a concern such as hospitals, schools or occupied buildings.

Is your waterproofing compatible with (insert product name here)?

This is a very common question and one where the answer is…it depends. What is
the chemical composition each of the products? What is the order of installation? What
products touch each other?
To get an accurate answer about possible compatibility issues, submit detailed photos
and drawings to our technical services department (see question 1 for contact info) so
that our experts can see exactly how products are being used.
In addition, we recommend that you submit to each manufacturer technical data sheets
and material safety data sheets of all products being used on the job.

How do I remove your product?

In most cases, remove CCW membranes using mechanical means (ie: shot blasting,
grinding, sand blasting, etc.). Which removal process is best depends on the type of
substrate. Please contact CCW Technical Services (see question 1 for contact info) for
specific recommendations based on your conditions.

What is your equal to this product?

Please submit a copy of the product’s Technical Data Sheet and MSDS to our technical
services department (see question 1 for contact info) for review. Describe the
application. Where is it being installed and what are the conditions surrounding the
application? (Example: Blindside or Positive-Side Below Grade; Exterior Foundation
Wall.)

How do you read the batch code?

Each CCW product is assigned a unique batch code based on its manufacturing
location. These batch numbers are located on the packaging . Call a CCW customer or
technical service staff member with this number and someone will be happy to assist
you. (see question 1 for contact info)

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the allowed moisture content in specific substrates?
Use the material manufacturers’ recommendations for the specified allowable moisture
content for their products. Here are some general guidelines for specific substrates:
• Wood Based Sheathings (plywood, OSB)- shall be at a maximum 19% moisture
content
• Exterior Gypsum Sheathing- 1% or less
• Concrete and CMU- 5-12% or less

How do you test for moisture?

A moisture mat test per ASTM D 4263 is sufficient for structural grade horizontal
concrete. When testing per ASTM D 4263, do not proceed with waterproofing
installation if moisture is obviously present or if the substrate appears discolored.

Can I apply CCW 705 Air Barrier or CCW MiraDRI 860/861

Waterproofing membrane as a roofing underlayment?
Both of these membranes are manufactured for particular applications and are not
approved for use as a roofing underlayment.
CCW 705 Air & Vapor Barrier is manufactured for vertical application within cavity
wall applications and CCW MiraDRI 860/861 waterproofing for below grade foundation
walls or split slab waterproofing applications.
Carlisle manufactures a full line of roofing underlayment products appropriate for
application under clay tile, composite asphalt shingles and standing seam metal roof
coverings, and for water & ice Protection (WIP). For more information visit www.
carlislewipproducts.com.

What are standard thicknesses of waterproofing membrane

systems?
Waterproofing systems vary by specialty but are at minimum 60 dry mils. Reinforced
waterproofing membranes systems are typically between 120 – 215 dry mil thickness.
Specialty systems may differ in thickness. Please consult the technical data table on
the product technical data sheets for the minimum dry mil thickness.

What is the standard thickness for drainage composites?

CCW MiraDRAIN drainage composites range in thicknesses from 0.25" to 1" depending
upon the version of the drainage composite. Please consult the Technical Data table on
the product technical data sheets for the thickness.

CCW-500R Hot-Applied Waterproofing System

DESCRIPTION
CCW-500 Hot-Applied Waterproofing Membrane is a single-component, rubberized
asphalt compound that forms a tough, flexible, thick waterproofing membrane. CCW-
500 is comprised of 26% pre-consumer material and can contribute toward LEED®
credits in new construction. CCW-500 adheres tenaciously to virtually any sound
vertical or horizontal surface, to ensure water will not migrate beneath the membrane
in the event of physical damage. The fast setup time speeds the completion of the
waterproofing. CCW-500 Hot-Applied Liquid Membrane is applied in a thick, monolithic
coating utilizing CCW Reinforcing Fabric, which allows for a wide variety of substrate
conditions. CCW-500 is used for waterproofing split-slab construction projects and is
especially suited as the waterproofing membrane on roof decks using the inverted roof
membrane assemblies and green roof systems.
INSTALLATION GUIDELINES

Vapor-Lock Hot-Applied Waterproofing System
(For Applications over Light-Weight Concrete or Wood Substrates)
DESCRIPTION
Carlisle’s Vapor-Lock System utilizes the CCW-711-90 sheet membrane as a preformed
first course on difficult-to-waterproof substrates such as lightweight structural
concrete and wood. The CCW-711-90 sheet membrane is a 90-mil composite
consisting of a self-adhering rubberized asphalt membrane laminated to high-strength,
heat resistant woven polypropylene mesh. The woven mesh is designed to withstand
high temperatures, allowing the membrane to become an integral reinforcement part
of the CCW-500R Hot-Applied Membrane System.
The second course of the Carlisle Vapor-Lock System is the application of CCW-500.
The CCW-500 is a single-component rubberized asphalt compound that forms a tough,
flexible, monolithic membrane over the CCW-711 sheet membrane. The fast setup time
speeds the completion of the waterproofing system.
The Vapor-Lock System is used to waterproof lightweight structural decks, inverted
roof systems with steel decks covered by gypsum roof decking board or plywood. The
Vapor-Lock System is also ideal for conventional waterproofing of split slabs, tunnels,
and plaza decks.

Vapor-Lock Hot-Applied Waterproofing System
(For Applications over Light-Weight Concrete or Wood Substrates)
APPLICATION
Surface Preparation: The substrate surface must be thoroughly clean, dry and free
from any surface contaminates or cleaning residue that may harmfully affect the
adhesion of the membrane.
Detailing and Flashing: Detail expansion joints per manufacturer’s recommendation.
Preferred Curb and Parapet Flashing Method (VL- 500-4A): Apply CCW Contact
Adhesive at the juncture of all horizontal surfaces and vertical surfaces to the height
indicated on the drawings (8" min. recommended), such as parapet walls, curbs,
columns and all penetrations through the deck. Avoid puddles. Allow primer to dry for
one hour minimum, eight hours maximum. Membrane will not properly adhere to wet
primer. Apply 90 mils of CCW-500 membrane to cover primed areas. Install CCW-711-
90 sheet membrane or uncured neoprene flashing into this first course of CCW-500 to
cover the vertical section and extend 6" onto deck surface. Flashing installation may be
done during crack and joint. Completely cover all flashing material during installation of
the subsequent layers of CCW-500 membrane.
At the juncture of all horizontal surfaces to vertical surfaces, such as parapet walls,
curbs, columns and all penetrations through the deck, apply CCW Contact Adhesive on
the vertical sections to the height indicated on the drawings 8" min. recommended).
Allow primer to dry. Apply the CCW-500 over the primed substrate. Install CCW-711-
90-mil or over the CCW-500 to cover the vertical section and extend 6" onto the deck
surface. Install CCW-500 Membrane over horizontal portion of flashing and onto the
vertical portion during the field membrane.
INSTALLATION
Terminate flashing on wall per Carlisle 500-9 Details. Install CCW-500 Membrane over
horizontal portion of flashing and onto the vertical portion during the field membrane
installation.

MiraSEAL 100% Solids, Fluid-Applied Waterproofing System

DESCRIPTION
MiraSEAL is a 100%-solids, fluid-applied, single-component, moisture-reacted,
elastomeric, coal-tar and solvent-free, modified polymer that cures to form a flexible,
monolithic, waterproof membrane on vertical and horizontal surfaces. Due to the
moisture-reactive and non-gassing properties of the membrane, it provides tenacious
adhesion to concrete substrates above- and below-grade, preventing lateral water
migration, even with moisture present in the concrete. The inherent toughness and
resilience of MiraSEAL enables it to bridge structural or shrinkage cracks that may
develop in the substrate. MiraSEAL can be applied wet on wet in a horizontal application
resulting in reduced installation time.
MiraSEAL is available in a single viscosity for both horizontal and vertical surfaces.
Typical applications are between structural slab and wearing course on parking garages,
plaza decks, balconies, roof decks, terraces, mechanical equipment rooms, wetrooms,
malls, kitchens and shower stalls. MiraSEAL is ideally suited for waterproofing on
below-grade foundation walls, tunnels, planters and other areas where a seamless,
elastomeric waterproofing is required. MiraSEAL may also be used as a sealant.

APPLICATION
Surface Preparation: New concrete shall be water-cured, trowel-finished, followed by
a light, hair broom and in place for 3 days minimum. If curing compounds are required,
they shall be 100% Sodium Silicate and shall be approved by CCW. Surfaces shall be
structurally sound, dry, and free of oil, grease, dirt, laitance, curing or release agents
and other contamination that may harmfully affect the adhesion of the membrane.
Mortar joints on block walls shall be struck flush with the block surface.
Remove splatters, fins, ridges or other projections to provide a smooth, level surface.
Fill tie rod holes, honey combs, rock pockets, spalls or other voids and indentations
with non-shrink grout. Saw-cut moving cracks greater than 1/16" to ¼" wide x ¼" deep.
Grind or fill (as required) surface at cold joints where each pour is at a different plane,
to provide a smooth and level surface. Clean metal to expose a bright finish. A Concrete
Surface Profile (CSP) of 2 or 3 is recommended to promote a mechanical bond between
concrete substrate and MiraSEAL.

55
MiraSEAL 100% Solids, Fluid-Applied Waterproofing System

Detail Work: Clean joints and saw-cut cracks. All moving cracks over 1/16" wide and all
expansion joints less than 1" wide shall be cleaned, primed, fitted with a backing rod
and caulked with Carlisle Polyurethane Sealant as recommended by the data sheet. For
larger joints, contact CCW representative.
Apply a one inch, 45º angle cant of CCW-201 sealant at the juncture of all vertical and
horizontal surfaces and inside corners, at pipes, vents and other projections.
Priming: Primer is not required for adhesion to dry, non-porous concrete. However,
if pinhole and blister problems occur as a result of air and/or moisture vapors
being trapped or emitted from the concrete and/or environmental conditions, it is
recommended that a thin-mil coat application be applied to remove trapped air/vapor.
This is intended to promote and establish an intimate bond with the substrate.
Metal: Mechanically clean to bright finish. Remove dust and debris and solvent wipe
with clean cloth. Sawcut ¼" x ¼" between drain flange and substrate. Install CCW-201
sealant struck flush with surface.
Horizontal Application: Apply MiraSEAL over cleaned flange of drains, taking care
not to fill weep holes. Drain flange of 3" minimum width recommended. Using a roller,
trowel, or brush apply MiraSEAL at 26 sq. ft. per gallon or as required to obtain a 60-
mil thickness. Apply MiraSEAL in one coat using a roller, trowel, or squeegee at 26 sq.
ft. per gallon or as required to obtain a 60-mil thickness to the entire area to receive
waterproofing, including overall detail coats.
Vertical Application: Apply MiraSEAL in one coat using a roller, trowel, or squeegee
at 26 sq. ft. per gallon or as required to obtain a 60-mil thickness to the entire area to
receive waterproofing, including overall detail coats. Wait for material to film form and
become stable between each coat.
Reinforced Systems: Apply MiraSEAL in one coat using a roller, trowel, or squeegee
at 26 sq. ft. per gallon or as required to obtain a 60-mil thickness to the entire area
to receive waterproofing, including over all details coats. Immediately install CCW
Reinforcing Fabric into the wet MiraSEAL. Brush or roll the fabric into the wet MiraSEAL,
ensuring it is completely saturated into the wet MiraSEAL. Overlap adjoining fabric
sheets a minimum of ½". Ensure overlapping fabric is completely saturated in between
overlaps. Install carefully to avoid wrinkles. In the event of wrinkles or fishmouths,
cut the fabric and overlap the excess to avoid trapped air. Apply an additional coat of
MiraSEAL on top of the fabric at 26 sq. ft. per gallon or as required to obtain a 60-mil
thickness, extending past the edge of the fabric to completely encapsulate it. The first
coat, CCW-500 Reinforcing Fabric, and the second coat will need to all be completed in
the same day or working period. Do not apply the first coat and CCW-500 Reinforcing
Fabric in an area that can’t be coated with the second coat in the same day. Total
system dry film thickness shall be 120-mils. Do not leave Reinforcing Fabric exposed
overnight.
All fluid-applied product application rates are based on theoretical coverage relative
to the percentage of solids in the material. These are minimum application rates to
achieve the required dry film thickness for the system and do not account for substrate
condition or porosity. A thicker application of the product may be necessary to achieve
the required dry film thickness for system relative to the substrate.

56
MiraSEAL 100% Solids, Fluid-Applied Waterproofing System

Protection: The membrane must be protected from damage caused by future

operations and other trades. The applicator shall install protection material applicable
to jobsite conditions, to protect the membrane. Protection course must be CCW
Protection products that correspond to horizontal or vertical applications.
Install protection course on vertical walls immediately after membrane has cured (24
hrs at 75°F). Install protection course on horizontal application immediately following
successful flood testing. If flood test is delayed, install a temporary covering to protect
the membrane from other trades.
Flood Test: After membrane has cured 12 hours, plug drains and provide necessary
barriers to contain flood water. Flood deck with a 2" head of water and allow to stand
for 24 hours. Check for leaks and immediately make repairs if required. Retest after
any repairs have been made.
Clean Up: Before material cures, clean adjacent areas to remove stains or spills and
clean tools with toluene or xylene. Do not wash off skin with solvents.
Verify specified warranty requirements to determine which CCW Miraseal
System should be used on each project. CCW Miraseal (120-mil Reinforced)
system is required for all Ultra (Labor & Material) Warranties. Please verify
CCW Specific Waterproofing System requirements with your local CCW Sales
Representative prior to bidding or starting project in order for the project to be
eligible for the specified CCW Miraseal System Warranties.

APPLICATION
Surface Preparation: New concrete shall be water-cured, trowel-finished, followed
by a light, hair broom and in place for 14 days minimum, 28 days preferred. If curing
compounds are required, they shall be 100% Sodium Silicate and shall be approved by
CCW. Surfaces shall be structurally sound, dry, and free of oil, grease, dirt, laitance,
curing or release agents and other contamination which may harmfully affect the
adhesion of the membrane. Mortar joints on block walls shall be struck flush with the
block surface.
Remove splatters, fins, ridges or other projections to provide a smooth, level surface.
Fill tie rod holes, honey combs, rock pockets, spalls or other voids and indentations
with non-shrink grout. Saw-cut moving cracks greater than 1/16" in width to ¼" wide
x ¼" deep.
Grind or fill (as required) surface at cold joints where each pour is at a different plane,
to provide a smooth and level surface. Clean metal to expose a bright finish.

81
Liquid-Applied, Single-Component,
CCW-525 Modified Polyurethane Waterproofing System

Detail Work: Clean joints and saw cut cracks. All moving cracks over 1/16" wide and
all expansion joints less than 1" wide shall be cleaned, primed, fitted with a backing
rod and caulked with CCW-201 non-sag polyurethane sealant. Refer to CCW-201
data sheet for information on the use of this product. For larger joints, contact CCW
representative.
Apply a 1", 45° angle cant of CCW-201 sealant at the juncture of all vertical and
horizontal surfaces including at pipes, vents and other projections.
Apply a bond breaker tape over the Sealant installed in expansion joints. Width of bond
breaker shall be three times joint width.
Priming: Primer is not required for adhesion to dry, non-porous concrete. However, if
pinhole and blister problems occur as a result of air and/or moisture vapors emitted
from the concrete and environmental conditions, it is recommended that the surface be
primed. Please contact CCW Technical Services regarding primer.
Apply 2 part epoxy Primer to metal surfaces immediately after sanding and cleaning.
Refer to manufacturer’s data sheet for information on the use of this product.
Horizontal Application: Apply CCW-525 over cleaned, primed flange of drains, taking
care not to fill weep holes. Using a notched squeegee, apply CCW-525-H at 22 sq.
ft. per gallon or as required to obtain a 60-mil thickness, to the entire area to receive
waterproofing, including overall detail coats.
Vertical Application: Using a roller, apply CCW-525 V in one coat at a rate of 22
square feet per gallon or as required to obtain a final dry film thickness of 60 mils. Wait
24 hours between each coat if subsequential coats are required.
CCW-525R Reinforced Systems: Apply CCW-525-H at 22 square feet per gallon or
as required to obtain a 60-mil thickness to the entire area to receive waterproofing,
including overall detail coats. Use a ¼" notched squeegee or flat squeegee with guide
pins to achieve a uniform thickness. Immediately install CCW LiquiFiber-W glass mat or
CCW DCH white polyester reinforcing fabric into the uncured CCW-525. Install carefully
to avoid wrinkles. In the event of wrinkles or fishmouths, cut the fabric and overlap the
excess to avoid trapped air. Once the coating has cured to a firm consistency, apply
an additional coat of CCW-525 at 22 sq. ft. per gallon or as required to obtain a 60
mil thickness, extending past the edge of the fabric to completely encapsulate it. Total
system dry film thickness is 120 mils. Wait 24 hours between each coat.
Protection: The membrane must be protected from damage by future operations
and other trades. The applicator shall install protection material applicable to jobsite
conditions, to protect the membrane. Protection course must be CCW Protection Board
products that correspond to horizontal or vertical applications.

82
Liquid-Applied, Single-Component,
CCW-525 Modified Polyurethane Waterproofing System

Install protection course on vertical walls immediately after membrane has cured (36
hours at 75°F). Install protection course on horizontal application immediately following
successful flood testing. If flood test is delayed, install a temporary covering to protect
the membrane from other trades.
Flood Test: After membrane has cured 36 to 72 hours, plug drains and provide
necessary barriers to contain flood water. Flood deck with a 2" head of water and
allow to stand for 24 hours. Check for leaks and immediately make repairs if required.
Retest after any repairs have been made.
Clean Up: Before material cures, clean adjacent areas to remove stains or spills and
clean tools with toluene or xylene. Do not wash off skin with solvents.
Verify specified warranty requirements to determine which CCW 525 System
should be used on each project. CCW 525R (120-mil Reinforced) system is
required for all Ultra (Labor & Material) Warranties. Please verify CCW Specific
Waterproofing System requirements with your local CCW Sales Representative
prior to bidding or starting project in order for the project to be eligible for the

APPLICATION
Preparation: CCW MiraDRI 860/861 can be applied to concrete, metal, wood,
insulated wall systems, or masonry surfaces. All substrates must be clean, dry, and
free of surface irregularities.
Concrete Substrates: Structural concrete must be cured a minimum of 7 days and
lightweight structural concrete must cure a minimum of 14 days before the application
of CCW MiraDRI 860/861. Repair surfaces that are not structurally sound or have
voids, protrusions, rough spalled areas, loose aggregate or exposed course aggregate.
Any voids exceeding a ¼" in width should be filled with latex Portland cement, concrete
or epoxy concrete and troweled smooth to match the existing surface. Protrusions and
other rough areas should be ground off and patched as above. CCW LM 800XL, CCW
201, or CCW 703V may be used to fill small voids, honeycombs or bug holes.

110
MiraDRI 860/861 Self-Adhering Sheet Waterproofing

Masonry Substrate: Apply CCW MiraDRI 960/861 waterproofing over concrete block
with smooth trowel-cut mortar joints or rough surfaces prepared with a parge coat.
Allow the parge coat to dry before priming and installing the CCW MiraDRI 860/861
waterproofing membrane.
Chemical Additives: Concrete shall be cured by water curing method. Any curing
compounds must be of the pure sodium silicate type or clear resin-based materials
without waxes, oils or pigments and be approved by the Carlisle representative. Form
release agents must not transfer to the concrete. Remove forms as soon as possible
from below horizontal slabs to prevent entrapment of excess moisture. Excess moisture
may lead to blistering of the membrane. Curing compounds or form release agents that
adversely affect the adherence of the CCW MiraDRI 860/861 waterproofing membrane
must be removed from the substrate prior to application.
Priming: All concrete, metal, masonry, wood and sheathing substrates require a
CCW Contact Adhesive. Insulated concrete forms require a water-based CCW Contact
Adhesive. Carlisle Coatings & Waterproofing recommends an adhesion test of the CCW
MiraDRI 860/861 on any substrate to verify proper adhesion. Apply the appropriate
CCW Contact Adhesive at the specified coverage rate. Apply Contact Adhesive with
a lambswool roller, brush or spray apparatus. Allow Contact Adhesive to dry for a
minimum of 30 minutes. The CCW Contact Adhesive will dry to a tacky finish. Areas
primed with a CCW Contact Adhesve, but not covered with CCW MiraDRI 860/861
within the same day must be re-primed.
When installing CCW sheet membranes and sheet flashings over gyp-sheathing with
glass-mat facers, coverage rates for contact adhesives and primers will depend on
the porosity and texture of the sheathing and will vary substantially by gypsum-
sheathing brand and manufacturer. To achieve consistent contact adhesive and/or
primer coverage with adequate tack, it may be necessary to decrease the coverage
rate (i.e. increase the amount applied) of the contact adhesive and/or primer and/or
the application of multiple coats. CCW Contact adhesives and primers shall be allowed
to dry completely (lower temperatures will extend drying time) before additional coats
are applied or membranes installed. Caution should be taken as contact adhesives
and/or primers applied to gyp-sheathings with glass-mat facers will take longer to dry
than other substrates. Multiple adhesion tests should be performed randomly to verify
proper application of primer and ensure a successful application.
Detailing: All vertical-to-horizontal transitions must have a ¾" (19.05 mm) fillet of
CCW LM-800XL, CCW-201 Sealant, CCW 703V Liquiseal, or GreenBond WB. Allow
CCW-LM-800XL to cure 1 hour, CCW-703V to cure 4 hours, CCW-201 to cure 16
hours, and GreenBond WB to cure 12 hours before covering with the CCW MiraDRI
860/861 membrane. All inside and outside corners, as well as the vertical-to-horizontal
transitions, should have a minimum 9" strip of CCW MiraDRI 860/861 installed
centered over the transition prior to the field membrane of CCW MiraDRI 860/861. The
CCW MiraDRI 860/861 Membrane Strip should be centered on corners, joints, cracks
and transitions. After field membrane is installed, a sealant bead of CCW LM-800XL,
CCW-704, CCW-201, GreenBond WB, or CCW-703V Liquiseal should all be placed over
all laps at the footing/wall transition extending a minimum of 9" up the wall and 9" out
over the footing. Refer to the standard detail drawings for specific detail instructions.

111
MiraDRI 860/861 Self-Adhering Sheet Waterproofing

Vertical Installation: Start at the low point and work towards the high point. Remove
6-8” (150-200 mm) of the release paper, and then begin applying the membrane.
Press and smooth the membrane against the substrate while pulling the release paper
free. Roll entire membrane and laps with a hard rubber hand roller. Install membrane
with side laps overlapped a minimum of 2-½" (63 mm) and end laps a minimum of 5"
(127 mm). CCW recommends that the membrane be rolled in place immediately after
its placement to ensure full adhesion to the primed substrate. Apply a bead of CCW
704, CCW LM 800XL, GreenBond WB, or CCW 703V Liquiseal at terminations, cut
edges, joints, drains, and penetrations. CCW 704 Mastic should not be installed on the
underside of CCW Miradri 860/861. For walls over 8' (240 cm), the membrane should
be placed in lifts. Protect the CCW MiraDRI 860/861 membrane with the appropriate
CCW MiraDRAIN drainage composite, CCW 200V/300HV Protection Course, or CCW
Protection Board V.
Horizontal Installation: Start at the low point (establish a starting point with a chalk
line if necessary) and work towards the high point in shingle fashion. Remove 2'– 3'
(60-90 cm) of the release paper and apply the membrane to the substrate. Continue
pulling the release paper free while pressing and smoothing the membrane against
the substrate. Apply in a straight line avoiding wrinkles and over-correcting. Roll the
membrane with a minimum 75-lb. (34 kg) linoleum roller. Install membrane with side
laps overlapped a minimum of 2-½" (63 mm) and end laps a minimum of 5" (127 mm).
Apply a bead of CCW-704 Mastic at all terminations of the membrane and T-joints.
Apply a 3/4" (19.05 mm) fillet of CCW LM 800XL, CCW 201, GreenBond WB, or CCW
703V Liquiseal in all inside corners of planter boxes, shower stalls and shower pans.
Patch inadequately lapped seams and damaged areas with CCW MiraDRI 860/861
membrane covering the damaged area by a minimum of 6" (150 mm). “Fish-mouths”
and severe wrinkles should be slit, flaps overlapped and repaired as above. Protect
the CCW MiraDRI 860/861 membrane with the appropriate CCW MiraDRAIN drainage
composite or CCW 300HV Protection Course.
Protection: The membrane must be protected from damage by future operations
and other trades. The applicator shall install protection material applicable to jobsite
conditions, to protect the membrane. Protection course must be CCW Protection Board
products that correspond to horizontal or vertical applications.
Install protection course on vertical walls immediately after membrane has been
installed. Install protection course on horizontal application immediately following
successful flood testing. If flood test is delayed, install a temporary covering to protect
the membrane from damage by other trades.
Verify specified warranty requirements to determine which CCW MiraDRI 860/861
System should be used on each project. The CCW MiraDRI 860-P system is required
on all horizontal decks where a CCW Ultra Warranty (Labor & Material) is required.
Please verify CCW Specific Waterproofing System requirements with your local CCW
Sales Representative prior to bidding or starting project in order to be eligible for the
specified CCW MiraDRI 860/861 or CCW 860-P System Warranties.
The CCW MiraDRI 860-P System consists of an application of CCW LiquiDeck at 60-
wet mils and then a layer of CCW MiraDRI 860/861 on horizontal decks and is required
for CCW Ultra Warranties.

MiraCLAY Bentonite Clay Waterproofing System

DESCRIPTION
CCW MiraCLAY has a uniform layer of sodium bentonite clay that is sandwiched
between a durable puncture-resistant nonwoven polypropylene fabric and a high-
tensile strength woven polypropylene fabric and then needle punched together with
thousands of high-strength denier yarns. These fibers are then thermally fused to the
polypropylene in a proprietary Infrabond™ procedure that locks the sodium bentonite
into place.
CCW MiraCLAY is designed for waterproofing below-grade structural slabs as well as
construction methods incorporating lagging, concrete caisson or shotcrete retention
walls. CCW MiraCLAY is also very effective in rehab waterproofing and zero clearance
property line construction.

APPLICATION
Underslab Applications
CCW MiraCLAY is designed for use under reinforced concrete slabs 4" (100 mm) thick
or greater on a compacted earth/gravel substrate. If installed over a mud slab, CCW
MiraCLAY requires a minimum 5" (150 mm) thick reinforced concrete slab.
For contaminated site water conditions, as determined by a site water analysis, CCW
MiraCLAY EF should be used. When hydrostatic conditions exist, CCW MiraCLAY should
be installed under footings and grade beams as shown in CCW MiraCLAY details.
Substrate Preparation: NOTE: Do not begin construction in work areas where there
is standing water or in situations which may cause the CCW MiraCLAY to prematurely
hydrate.
Before installing CCW MiraCLAY, the substrate must be properly prepared. Substrate
may be concrete, earth, sand, pea gravel or crushed stone. Earth and sand substrates
should be compacted to a minimum 85% Modified Proctor density. Crushed stone
should not be larger than ¾" (18 mm) in size. Honeycombing, voids and aggregate
pockets exceeding 1" in diameter or have a depth greater than ¾ inch should be filled
with a non-shrink cementitious grout. Fill tie-rod holes with a non-shrink cementitious
grout. Substrate should be smooth and uniform without sharp projections or pockets.
Complete all required elevator pit, sump pit and grade beam and piling work before
installing CCW MiraCLAY under main slab area.
Installation: Install CCW MiraCLAY over the properly prepared substrate with the non-
woven geotextile side up. Overlap adjoining edges a minimum of 4" (100 mm); stagger
sheet ends a minimum of 24" (600 mm); and nail or staple edges together as required
to prevent any displacement during concrete placement. CCW MiraCLAY Granules may
also be placed in the seam for additional waterproofing performance.

146
MiraCLAY Bentonite Clay Waterproofing System

When the slab is poured in sections, CCW MiraCLAY should extend a minimum 12"
(300 mm) beyond the slab edge. When the installation reaches the outer edge of the
slab, continue CCW MiraCLAY up and out of the form a minimum of 12" (300 mm). At
the corner, CCW MiraCLAY should remain in contact with the substrate and inside the
surface of the concrete form. When the form is removed, the CCW MiraCLAY outside
the form should be positioned and fastened onto the footing or vertical wall. Overlay the
CCW MiraCLAY a minimum of 6" (150 mm) with the succeeding vertical waterproofing
membrane.
At property line retaining walls, such as soldier pile or lagging, continue the underslab
CCW MiraCLAY application up the retaining wall a minimum 12" (300 mm) above
the top edge of the slab or footing and secure. Overlap the vertical CCW MiraCLAY
waterproofing membrane by a minimum of 6" (150 mm) or a minimum of 12" (300
mm) under hydrostatic head conditions.
Property Line/ Lagging Application
Substrate Preparation: Gaps between the wood lagging greater than 1" (25 mm) must
be filled with cementitious grout. In areas with large gaps (1" to 5" / 25 mm to 125
mm) between lagging, install plywood to provide a uniform substrate. Where drainage
issues may arise, install CCW MiraDRAIN to provide a uniform substrate as well as to
facilitate drainage.
Installation: Install CCW MiraCLAY with the white non-woven side facing the installer.
Secure the CCW MiraCLAY into position with fasteners and 1" (25 mm) washers. Use
the appropriate fasteners for the type of substrate used to receive the CCW MiraCLAY.
Install succeeding courses of CCW MiraCLAY by overlapping the previous course a
minimum of 4" (100 mm). Stagger the seams a minimum of 24" (600 mm). Install
in shingle fashion so that the upper roll of CCW MiraCLAY overlaps the lower roll.
Fasten membrane once every 18" (45 cm) on seams or as required to prevent blousing.
Shotcrete installations require a seam fastening pattern not to exceed 12" O.C. or as
necessary to prevent seam blousing.
Extend waterproofing membrane to 6" below grade and fasten membrane to the
substrate to maintain constant compression using a 1/8" x 1" (3 x 25 mm) minimum
termination bar. Embed the top edge of CCW MiraCLAY and termination bar with a thick
bead of CCW MiraCLAY Sealant 2" (50 mm) wide by ½" (12 mm) thick.
Standard Foundation Walls
Substrate Preparation: The substrate must be properly prepared to receive the
CCW MiraCLAY waterproofing membrane. All honeycombs, form-tie cavities and
indentations should be filled with CCW MiraCLAY Sealant or filled with latex Portland
Cement. Substrate must be smooth and uniform removing any protrusions over ½"
(12 mm) from the surface. Footings must be free of soil, rocks or debris to provide a
suitable substrate to receive the CCW MiraCLAY waterproofing membrane.

147
MiraCLAY Bentonite Clay Waterproofing System

Installation: The CCW MiraCLAY waterproofing membrane should be installed with the
white non-woven side facing the applicator. Create a cant at any vertical to horizontal
transition by applying a 1-½" (39 mm) to 2" (50 mm) of CCW MiraCLAY Granules or
CCW MiraCLAY Sealant along that junction. At the base of the foundation wall where
the vertical wall meets the horizontal footing, install CCW MiraCLAY in a horizontal
manner extending out onto the footing a minimum of 12" (300 mm). Fasten the CCW
MiraCLAY in place with concrete fasteners and 1" (25 mm) washers. Install succeeding
courses of CCW MiraCLAY by overlapping the previous course a minimum of 4" (100
mm). Stagger the seams a minimum of 12" (300 mm). Install in shingle fashion so
that the upper roll of CCW MiraCLAY overlaps the lower roll. Fasten membrane once
every 18" (45 cm) to 3' (90 cm) on seams or as required to prevent blousing. At grade
line, terminate CCW MiraCLAY with a rigid termination bar or fasten 12" (300 mm) on
center. Embed the top edge of CCW MiraCLAY and termination bar with a thick bead
of CCW MiraCLAY sealant 2" (50 mm) wide by ½" (12 mm) thick. Backfill must be
compactible soils free of construction debris and must be uniformly compacted to a
minimum 85% Modified Proctor on each lift.
Protection: The membrane must be protected from damage by future operations,
other trades, and pre-hydration prior to backfill. The applicator shall install protection
material applicable to jobsite conditions, to protect the membrane. Protection course
must be CCW MiraDRAIN products that correspond to horizontal or vertical applications.

Water-Based Asphalt Emulsion
Barricoat-S/R Waterproofing System for Vertical Walls

DESCRIPTION
Barricoat-S: A water-based asphalt emulsion modified with a blend of synthetic
polymers and special additives. Barricoat-S is dispensed in tandem with CCW
Barricure, a non-corrosive, chloride-free deliquescent salt solution. Barricoat-S and
Barricure are applied through specialized co-spray equipment, which is provided by
others and approved by CCW. During spray, Barricoat-S rapidly becomes firm, tack-
free and water-resistant. Product air dries to its final cured state, which is a rubber-like,
fully adhered membrane.
Barricoat-S is a waterproofing and vapor barrier membrane for use in below-grade
foundation wall assemblies. Barricoat-S is for use on primarily-vertical surfaces and
can be applied directly to concrete, concrete masonry, polystyrene foam insulation
board and many other common building materials. Barricoat-S waterproofing and
MiraDRAIN® drainage composite are combined for a complete, warranted foundation
waterproofing system by CCW.
Barricoat-R: A water-based asphalt emulsion modified with a blend of synthetic
rubbers and special additives. Barricoat-R is formulated to a thick consistency, so it
will hang easily on vertical surfaces at high thickness. Barricoat-R is applied by roller
or brush, and air-dries to a rubber-like consistency.
Barricoat-R is often used as an accessory product in the Barricoat-S Spray-Applied
Waterproofing system. Barricoat-R can also be used as the primary membrane, and
by itself performs as a waterproofing membrane and vapor barrier. Barricoat-R is
for use on below-grade, vertical surfaces and can be applied directly to concrete,
concrete masonry, polystyrene foam insulation board and many other common building
materials. Barricoat-R plus MiraDRAIN® drainage composite are combined to form a
complete, warranted foundation waterproofing system by CCW.

from the bottom, upward. Apply a maximum of 90 mils wet thickness per coat. Total
membrane thickness after full cure shall measure a minimum of 60 mils. Note that
coating thickness measured shortly after spray will only shrink about 10% by volume,
since Barricure has already pulled much of the water from the Barricoat-S by the time
thickness can be measured.
Therefore, minimum thickness measured shortly after spray should read a minimum
of 70 mils with a comb type wet mil gauge, or 66 mils with a pin gauge. Spray full
thickness over cold joint details and corner details. Provide complete coverage over
surfaces, so that there are no voids, pinholes or similar passages through membrane.
Allow the membrane to dry completely before subjecting it to inspection for water

leakage and adhesion testing. Drying time varies with substrate, ambient temperature
and humidity. Membrane is dry when it appears black and rubber-like, and feels dry
when pressed. Install MiraDRAIN drainage composite, Protection Board V or insulation
board by others over the Barricoat-S membrane before backfill.
Spraying of Barricoat-S in Cold Weather
If the ambient or substrate temperature is 32°F or lower, incorporate these modifications
to the standard procedure: Spray Barricoat-S in two coats at 35–40 wet mils each,
allowing drying between coats. Keep drums of Barricoat-S and the spray equipment
in an area maintained at or above 50°F, and keep the hose and gun reeled in except
during spray.
Spraying of Barricoat-S on Aerated Concrete, Green Concrete, or Concrete Containing
Additives that Cause Out Gassing
If Barricoat-S tends to blister shortly after spray on the concrete substrate, incorporate
these modifications to the standard procedure: Spray the surface with approximately
10 mils wet of Barricoat-S, with the Barricure stream shut off. Allow this “primer coat”
of Barricoat-S to dry firm, then apply Barricoat-S co-sprayed with Barricure according
to the standard procedure or the cold weather procedure.
Spray Tip Recommendations:
Barricoat-S High Coverage GHD 635
Detail Coat GHD 419
Barricure Graco XHD 627 OR TP 6501-SS
Applying Barricoat-R
Obtain full, safe access to area, and mask adjacent surfaces to protect from droppings
or splatter. Use a medium/long nap roller to cover open surfaces and a brush or a detail
roller to cover details. With roller application, apply three coats at 30 mils wet thickness
each. Allow the previous coat to dry firm before applying the next. Total dry membrane
thickness after full cure shall measure a minimum of 60 mils. In areas treated with DCH
Reinforcing Fabric encapsulated in Barricoat-R, allow details to dry firm, and cover
with minimum 30 mils wet of Barricoat-R. Provide complete coverage over surfaces,
so that there are no voids, pinholes or similar passages through membrane. Allow
membrane to dry completely before subjecting to inspection for water leakage and
adhesion testing. Drying time varies with substrate, ambient temperature and humidity.
Membrane is dry when it appears black and rubber-like, and feels dry when pressed.
Install MiraDRAIN drainage composite, Protection Board V, H, HS, insulation board by
others, or Protection Fabric 200V or 300 HV over the Barricoat-R membrane before
backfill.

Installing Protection Board V, H or HS, Protection Fabric 200V or 300HV, or

Plastic Foam Protection Board by others over Barricoat-S/R
Allow Barricoat-S/R membrane to dry completely. Attach insulation to the surface of
the membrane with CAV-GRIP or approved insulation adhesive by others. Where CAV-
GRIP is used, spray the adhesive over the surface of Barricoat-S/R, and press the
insulation in place.
Installing Insulation Board & MiraDRAIN over Barricoat-S/R
CCW recommends installation of the insulation over the Barricoat-S/R followed by
installation of MiraDRAIN drainage composite over the insulation. Bond the insulation
to Barricoat-S/R according to the aforementioned procedure. Bond MiraDRAIN to
the surface of the insulation by spraying CAV-GRIP to back side of MiraDRAIN, and
pressing MiraDRAIN to the surface of the insulation.

MiraDRAIN Drainage Composite

APPLICATION GUIDE
CCW MiraDRAIN prefabricated drainage panels may be installed in a variety of
construction applications including: retaining walls, foundation walls (both waterproofed
and non-waterproofed), lagging systems, split slabs, plaza decks, planters, buttress/
landfills, interceptor/edge drains and greenroofs. MiraDRAIN can be cut with a utility
knife or scissors. Slurries, shotcrete or concrete may be placed directly to either side
of the panels. The panels should terminate at the top of the footing and are flexible
enough to form a right angle to cover the top of the footing. MiraDRAIN eliminates
the need for a protection course over most waterproofing systems. Native soils can
be used over MiraDRAIN. Contact your local MiraDRAIN representative for specific
guidelines.
FOUNDATION WALLS - VERTICAL APPLICATIONS
MiraDRAIN panels can be installed in rows or columns with the fabric side toward the
soil. Each method has its advantages depending on the criteria of the project.
Installing MiraDRAIN in Columns
1. Start at the low point of the wall and attach the panel to the wall with approved
CCW adhesive.
2. Attach adjacent panels together by:

Overlapping the core

A flanges.

Mate fabric flaps together

B and fold over adjacent
panel. Adhere fabric with
approved CCW adhesive.

207
MiraDRAIN Drainage Composite

INSTALLING MIRADRAIN IN ROWS (HORIZONTALLY)

1. Place the longitudinal edge of the core against the wall, flush with the wall
footing, or place the longitudinal edge of the core on the footing and turn up the
wall (as shown on cover).
2. Attach subsequent panels in shingle fashion as follows:

Attach the longitudinal

A edge of MiraDRAIN to
longitudinal edge of
either MiraDRAIN or CCW
MiraDRAIN HC™.

Overlap the geotextile

B fabric flaps from both
panels folded in a shingle
fashion over the adjacent
panel. Adhere fabric with
approved CCW adhesive.

208
MiraDRAIN Drainage Composite

When installing end-of-roll seams:

Cut approximately 3" (75

A mm) of core leaving the
geotextile fabric to overlap
the adjacent panel. The
fabric can be adhered with
approved CCW adhesive.
(Optional: Cover butted
core with additional
geotextile fabric.)

Termination drainage panel:

The top or terminal edge

B of CCW MiraDRAIN should
be sealed by applying
a piece of filter fabric
sufficient to prevent soil or
other foreign construction
materials from intruding
into or behind CCW
MiraDRAIN panels, an
alternative would be to cut
the core from the fabric
by a depth of 3 dimples to
provide excess fabric for
wrapping behind the core.

UNDERSLAB - HORIZONTAL APPLICATIONS

Floor Slabs and Concrete-Lined Channels
1. Proper preparation of the subgrade will require grading to a 2% minimum slope.
The area of installation should be clear of rubble, rock, large soil clods, etc.
2. Place MiraDRAIN with the fabric side toward the soil.
3. The flange of the second and subsequent panels should be placed over the
back side of the preceding dimpled core and butted as close as possible to the
preceding panel. The panel joints, longitudinal and transverse on the MiraDRAIN
core, should be sealed with 4" CCW-705 if concrete is to be placed directly on the
core. This will aid in preventing concrete or soil from intruding into the MiraDRAIN
core during subsequent construction phases.
4. Construction traffic should be minimized over the installed MiraDRAIN. Sand or
concrete may be poured directly over MiraDRAIN.

MiraDRAIN joined top-to- CCW MiraDRAIN joined in a “T”

Planter
1. Place the MiraDRAIN in the planter so that the fabric on the vertical and horizontal
surfaces face the soil.
2. Utilize the installation procedures and attachment method appropriate for the type
of substrate.
3. Overlap the fabric of the vertical panel onto the horizontal panel at the transition
point.
4. If the panels require cutting, exposed cuts must be covered with supplemental
pieces of filter fabric to prevent soil intrusion. A minimum 6" (150 mm) piece of
filter fabric will be required to cover cut sections.

210
MiraDRAIN Drainage Composite

Plaza
1. Place fabric side up over a properly waterproofed substrate.
2. The panels should be placed in shingle fashion so that water runs with the
overlap. Secure MiraDRAIN to the waterproofing membrane with ballast or
approved CCW adhesive to hold it in place. The first panels should be placed with
the flanged edge uphill.
3. Termination edges that have been cut will require a supplemental piece of filter
fabric to seal the panel from soil intrusion.
ATTACHMENT METHODS
No Waterproofing Membrane
MiraDRAIN should be attached to non-waterproofed walls with approved CCW
adhesive, concrete nails with 1" diameter washers. MiraDRAIN will be permanently
secured upon completion of backfill. Backfill within two weeks. Backfill to at least 6"
(150 mm) above the top edge of MiraDRAIN.
Using CCW MiraDRI 860/861, CCW 500R, CCW 525, Barricoat, MiraSEAL, MiraPLY,
Sure-Seal EPDM & CCW 703 Waterproofing Membranes

MiraDRAIN and CCW MiraCLAY using 1" diameter washer

SOLDIER PILE SUPPORTED EXCAVATIONS
MiraDRAIN should be secured with power actuated fasteners or concrete nails with
1" diameter washers to the substrate, i.e. concrete, masonry, wood or soil. Prevent
concrete from flowing behind MiraDRAIN core by sealing the backside of the panel with
duct tape or wood furring strip. Sealing the backside of the panel is not necessary if
CCW MiraCLAY or MiraPLY waterproofing membrane is applied over MiraDRAIN prior
to pouring concrete or shotcreting. Voids in the soil or lagging that exceed 6" (150 mm)
across and 5" (12.5 cm) deep must be filled to provide support for MiraDRAIN.

CCW WATERPROOFING MEMBRANES INSTALLED OVER
CONCRETE CURING AGENTS, FORM RELEASE AGENTS,
AND CONCRETE HARDENERS
Carlisle Coatings & Waterproofing does not approve or disapprove of any specific
curing agents, form release agents, or concrete hardeners. However, we do have some
guidelines below that you can follow to aid in the selection of agents and the use of
them with a CCW-Membrane.
When the substrate is to receive a CCW Waterproofing System it is recommended that
chemical additives are not used. Where chemical additives are used, CCW recommends
a clear resin-based material without silicones, waxes, oils, or pigments. The majority
of agents will require removal including the ones mentioned and the self-dissipating
formulas. Prior to installing a CCW-Membrane the substrate must have no residues
from the agents. Any remaining residue left on the substrate must be removed by
using the directions of the agent’s manufacturer. These directions are commonly listed
on their Product Data Sheets or you can contact their Technical Service Department.
Typically the agents can be removed by mechanical abrasion or hydro-blasting (power-
washing) prior to the installation of a CCW Waterproofing Membrane. After the agent
has been removed a field adhesion test is always recommended to ensure that the
proper adhesion has been achieved which is standard industry practice regardless if
an agent was used or not.
Carlisle does not recommend using any type of concrete hardener prior to the
installation of a CCW-Membrane. The hardeners will seal the pores of the concrete too
tightly which will not allow for a mechanical bond of the CCW-Primer/Membrane. If a
hardener has been used on the substrate the surface will require mechanical abrasion
such as scarifying or mechanical abrasion. The surface must be rough and course
enough to allow for a mechanical bond of the CCW-Primer/Membrane.

CCW PRODUCT LINE SHELF LIFE
The following is a list of the minimum shelf life for Carlisle Coatings & Waterproofing’s
product line. Shelf life is based on the date of manufacture and is referenced on batch
code that can be found on the label or a grocery sticker placed on the product. In many
cases, if properly handled and stored, product will remain usable for application for a
time period beyond the minimum shelf life. Since many batch codes are structured
differently, please contact either CCW Customer Service or Technical Service for
specific batch code interpretation.
All products must be stored in accordance with CCW requirements and improper
handling and storage will adversely affect product quality and workability.

RUBBER MAT TEST FOR MOISTURE CONTENT
OF CONCRETE
The moisture content of concrete is required to be a minimum of 5% Relative Humidity
or less. It is required to test for moisture content in a concrete substrate prior to the
installation of any CCW Waterproofing or Air and Vapor Barrier Membrane. This test
can be accomplished through a Rubber Mat Test. The rubber mat test will identify
the presence of excessive moisture in a concrete deck or wall. Capillary moisture in
concrete is detrimental to the adhesion and performance of many waterproofing or air
and vapor barrier system. The Rubber Mat Test procedure is as follows:
Materials:
• 18" x 18" min. 4 to 6 mil polyethylene sheeting or
• 18" x 18" min. 060” EPDM membrane
• 2" min wide duct tape
Test Conditions: Conduct the rubber mat test at a minimum of 40°F for application of
the waterproofing system. Test in direct sunlight or use a sun lamp over the mat (max.
distance 4 feet) in the absence of sunlight. The frequency of test shall be one test mat
every 500 SF.
Procedure: Tape the mat tightly to the concrete surface. Ensure all edges are sealed.
Allow the mat to remain in place for 4 to 24 hours (4 hours minimum). After 4 hours,
remove the mat and visually inspect the underside of the sheet and the corresponding
concrete surface for moisture.
Results: Some dampness may be present in the concrete, however, if visible droplets
of moisture are present beneath the mat; the substrate is too wet to proceed with
waterproofing. Allow the concrete another day or two to dry out and then retest before
applying a waterproofing or air and vapor barrier membrane.

CCW MIRADRI 860/861 SHEET MEMBRANE APPLICATION
GUIDE FOR USE WITH EPS FORMING SYSTEMS
CCW MiraDRI 860/861 Self-Adhesive Sheet Membrane can be used in conjunction with
insulated wall forming (ICF) systems using expanded or extruded polystyrene (EPS).
These systems consist of interlocking preformed EPS blocks that create a form for
poured in place concrete. The EPS forms remain in place after the concrete is poured.
The general installation procedures covered in the CCW MiraDRI 860/861 Data Sheet
are to be observed except where this bulletin specifies alternative procedures to address
the special concerns present when working with EPS substrates. Joints or voids in the
surface over 1/4 inch should be filled with non-shrink grout or other EPS compatible
crack filler. Use a 12 inch wide strip of CCW MiraDRI 860/861 centered over inside and
outside corners and at brick ledges. The CCW MiraDRI 860/861 Membrane should be
rolled in place after installation to ensure good adhesion to the EPS and at laps.
Terminations and “T” joints should be sealed the same day with either CCW-201
Polyurethane Sealant or CCW-703V Liquiseal liquid-applied membrane. Solvent
containing products such as CCW-704 Mastic should not be used, since solvents will
soften or dissolve the EPS forming. Pipe and electrical penetrations should also be
sealed with CCW-201 or CCW-703V.

APPLICATION OF CCW MIRADRI 860/861
ON PLYWOOD DECKS
The use of CCW MiraDRI 860/861 for waterproofing above grade plywood decks is
an accepted and recommended application for this product. The advantages of using
the CCW MiraDRI 860/861 System for plywood decks include excellent adhesion to
plywood without the use of bonding adhesives and easy to install splices, detailing and
terminations.
Carlisle’s published specifications and details should be followed, including these
additional surface preparation and detailing steps specific to plywood substrates (See
Carlisle detail 860-12):
1. Slope deck 1/8" per foot minimum. Install exterior plywood per American Plywood
Association (APA) recommendations. Use plywood with Grade B or better veneer
for the surface to receive the membrane to minimize surface preparation. Fill
knotholes, voids, or damaged areas with CCW-703 Liquiseal or CCW-201
Polyurethane Sealant.
2. All butt joints in the plywood should be flush and supported by framing or
blocking. The use of tongue and groove plywood is recommended to reduce the
need for extra blocking.
3. Fasten plywood per APA recommendations with non-backing fasteners such as
screws or screw-or ring-shank nails.
4. Plywood must be clean, dry, and free of projections. If plywood has become dusty
or dirty, sweep or wash off all contamination and allow to dry thoroughly. Prime
with CCW-702 at 300-350 sf/gal.
5. Joints in the plywood should be covered with an 8" minimum strip of CCW
MiraDRI 860/861.
6. Install the membrane working from the low point on the deck upwards so that the
laps shed water.
7. Terminate membrane per Carlisle published details. Apply CCW-704 Mastic or
CCW-703 V to all terminations and T-joints at the end of each day.
8. All exposed CCW MiraDRI 860/861 membrane and flashing must be covered
to prevent long term exposure to ultraviolet light. Vertical flashings should be
covered by a metal counterflashing or by the wall surfacing material.
9. Protect the CCW MiraDRI 860/861 membrane from damage from construction
traffic and overburden placement with CCW-Protection Board H.
