BODY MASS RATIO

OBJECT:

To determine the BMR OR BEE of your classmate to predict health status.

THEORY:

It is defined as number of calorie required by the body to perform functioning in resting

condition. Almost 50-70% energy expenditure is used as BMR.

FACTORS WHICH AFFECT BMR:

 AGE

As the age of a person increases their BMR decreases. In old age the BMR decreases because the
skeleton mass decreases gradually.

 GENDER

Male having 10-15% higher BMR as compare to women.

 PREGNANCY AND LACTATION

In last trimester of pregnancy due to hormone disturbance weight gain swelling and craving etc
155 of the of the actual BMR is increases.

 HORMONES

Thyroxin is a hormone release from thyroid gland which stimulate oxidation by which heat
production increases in cells and due to which BMR increases by 50-100% then actual.

 CLIMATE

In winters or regions like eractic the metabolic rate goes on increase which will indirectly
increases the BMR.

 BODY COMPOSITION

Humans having high body mass their metabolic rate gets increases which increases the BMR.

IMPORTANCE OF BMR

Whether your goal is to lose weight (body fat), gain weight (lean muscle), or to just maintain
your current weight, knowing your basal metabolic rate can help you attain and maintain your
goals. If you are like many women who are doing all the right things, like eating healthy,

exercising and still not losing weight. Knowing your BMR can be helpful for your weight loss
tool-box.

The Basal Metabolic Rate calculator shows you the number of calories you burn when at rest.
This is before you even get out of bed in the morning.  This is the number of calories your body
needs just to stay alive and function daily.  It is a great way to know if you are eating too few
calories.  Eating too little, skipping meals and saving calories for later will all backfire on you.

UNIT OF BMR

Kcal/day

Kcal/m2/hour

Kjoule/m2/hour

Mefflin st jeor equation

For women

Formula: BMR = 10*Weight(in kg)+6.25*Height(in cm)-5*age(in year)-161

Unit: Kca/day

For men

Formula: BMR = 10*Weight(in kg)+6.25*Height(in cm)-5*age(in year)-161+5

Unit: Kca/day

REQUIREMENT:

● Weight machine
● Height calculator

PROCEDURE:

1. Take a five student (Underweight, overweight, normal).

2. Firstly weight the all student by weight machine.
3. Secondly calculate height by inch tape.
4. Convert the height in cm and weight in kg.
5. Then calculate the BMR.
6. Observe the health status of the classmate according to BMI table.
