Isaiah 47

47:1 ‫ְר ִדי‬ ‫ּוׁש ִבי‬


ְ ‫עָ פָ ר ־ עַ ל‬ ‫ְּבתּולַ ת‬ ‫ַּבת‬ ‫ָּב ֶבל ־‬ ‫ְׁש ִבי‬ ‫לָ אָ ֶרץ ־‬

. Come down, and sit in
rdi u·shbi ol - ophr bthulth bth - bbl shbi - l·artz the dust, O virgin daughter
go-down-you ! and·sit-you ! on soil virgin-of daughter-of Babylon sit-you ! to·the·earth of Babylon, sit on the
ground: [there is] no throne,
‫אֵ ין‬ ‫ִּכ ֵּסא ־‬ ‫ַּבת‬ ‫ּכַ ְׂש ִּדים ־‬ ‫ִּכי‬ ‫ל ֹא‬ ‫יפי‬
ִ ‫תס‬
ִ ‫יִ ְק ְראּו‬ ‫לָ  ־‬ O daughter of the
Chaldeans: for thou shalt no
ain - ksa bth - kshdim ki la thusiphi iqrau - l·k
more be called tender and
there-is-no throne daughter-of Chaldeans that not you-shall-anymore they-shall-call to·you
delicate.

47:2 ‫ְק ִחי‬ ‫ֵר ַחיִ ם‬ ‫ְוטַ חֲנִ י‬ ‫ּג ִַּלי ָק ַמח‬ ‫צַ ָּמ ֵת‬ ‫ֶח ְׂש ִּפי‬ ‫ׁש ֶבל ־‬

Take the millstones, and
qchi rchim u·tchni qmch gli tzmth·k chshphi - shbl grind meal: uncover thy
take-you ! millstones and·grind-you ! meal mroll-back face-veil-of·you bare-you ! limb locks, make bare the leg,
uncover the thigh, pass over
‫ּג ִַּלי‬ ‫ׁשק ־‬ ‫ִע ְב ִרי‬ ‫נְ ָהרת‬ : the rivers.

47:3 ‫ִּתּגָל‬ ‫ָת‬


ֵ ‫עֶ ְרו‬ ‫ּגַם‬ ‫ֵּת ָראֶ ה‬ ‫ֶח ְרּפָ ֵת‬ ‫נ ָָקם‬

Thy nakedness shall be

she-shall-be-exposed nakedness-of·you even she-shall-be-seen reproach-of·you vengeance shall be seen: I will take
vengeance, and I will not
‫אֶ ָּקח‬ ‫ְול ֹא‬ ‫אֶ ְפּגַע‬ ‫אָ ָדם‬ : ‫ס‬ meet [thee as] a man.

47:4 ‫ֹּגאֲלֵ נּו‬ ‫יְ הוָה‬ ‫ְצ ָבאת‬ ‫ְׁשמ‬ ‫ְקדׁש‬ ‫ יִ ְׂש ָראֵ ל‬:

[As for] our redeemer, the
gal·nu ieue tzbauth shm·u qdush ishral : LORD of hosts [is] his
one-redeeming-of·us Yahweh-of hosts name-of·him holy-one-of Israel name, the Holy One of
Israel.
47:5 ‫ׁש ִבי‬
ְ ‫דּומם‬
ָ ‫ּוב ִֹאי‬  ֶ‫ַבחֹׁש‬ ‫ַּבת‬ ‫ּכַ ְׂש ִּדים ־‬ ‫ִּכי‬ ‫ל ֹא‬

Sit thou silent, and get
shbi dumm u·bai b·chshk bth - kshdim ki la thee into darkness, O
sit-you ! still and·enter-you ! in·the·darkness daughter-of Chaldeans that not daughter of the Chaldeans:
for thou shalt no more be
‫יפי‬
ִ ‫תס‬
ִ ‫יִ ְק ְראּו‬ ‫לָ  ־‬ ‫ּגְ ֶב ֶרת‬ ‫ַמ ְמלָ כת‬ : called, The lady of
kingdoms.
thusiphi iqrau - l·k gbrth mmlkuth :
you-shall-anymore they-shall-call to·you mistress-of kingdoms

47:6 ‫ָקצַ ְפ ִּתי‬ ‫עַ ל‬ ‫עַ ִּמי ־‬ ‫ִחּלַ ְל ִּתי‬ ‫ַנחֲלָ ִתי‬ ‫וָאֶ ְּתנֵם‬

I was wroth with my
qtzphthi ol - om·i chllthi nchlth·i u·athn·m people, I have polluted mine
I-was-wroth over people-of·me I-mprofaned allotment-of·me and·I-am-giving·them inheritance, and given them
into thine hand: thou didst
‫ְּבי ֵָד‬ ‫ׂשַ ְמ ְּת ־ ל ֹא‬ ‫לָ ֶהם‬ ‫ח ִמים‬
ֲ ‫ַר‬ ‫ז ֵָקן ־ עַ ל‬ ‫ִה ְכ ַּב ְד ְּת‬  ֵ‫עֻ ּל‬ shew them no mercy; upon
the ancient hast thou very
b·id·k la - shmth l·em rchmim ol - zqn ekbdth ol·k
heavily laid thy yoke.
in·hand-of·you not you-placed to·them compassions on old-one you-cmade-heavy yoke-of·you

‫ְמאֹד‬ :

exceedingly

47:7 ‫ֹאמ ִרי‬


ְ ‫וַּת‬ ‫ְלעלָ ם‬ ‫אֶ ְהיֶה‬ ‫גְ ָב ֶרת‬ ‫עַ ד‬ ‫ׂשַ ְמ ְּת ־ ל ֹא‬ ‫אֵ ּלֶ ה‬ ‫־ עַ ל‬

. And thou saidst, I shall
u·thamri l·oulm aeie gbrth od la - shmth ale ol - be a lady for ever: [so] that
and·you-are-saying for·eon I-shall-bebc mistress further not you-placed these on thou didst not lay these
[things] to thy heart, neither
‫ִל ֵּב‬ ‫ל ֹא‬ ‫זָכַ ְר ְּת‬ ‫יתּה‬
ָ ‫אַ ח ֲִר‬ : ‫ס‬ didst remember the latter
end of it.

47:8 ‫ּתה‬
ָ ַ‫ְוע‬ ‫ִׁש ְמ ִעי‬ ‫ז ֹאת ־‬ ‫ע ֲִדינָה‬ ‫ַהּיׁשֶ ֶבת‬ ‫לָ ֶבטַ ח‬ ‫א ְמ ָרה‬
ֹ ‫ָה‬

Therefore hear now this,
u·othe shmoi - zath odine e·iushbth l·btch e·amre [thou that art] given to
and·now hear-you ! this luxuriant-one the·one-dwelling to·trusting the·one-saying pleasures, that dwellest
carelessly, that sayest in
‫ִּב ְל ָב ָבּה‬ ‫אֲנִ י‬ ‫ְואַ ְפ ִסי‬ ‫עד‬ ‫ל ֹא‬ ‫אֵ ׁשֵ ב‬ ‫ְול ֹא אַ ְל ָמנָה‬ ‫אֵ ַדע‬ thine heart, I [am], and none
else beside me; I shall not
b·lbb·e ani u·aphs·i oud la ashb almne u·la ado
sit [as] a widow, neither
in·heart-of·her I and·only·me further not I-shall-sit widow and·not I-shall-know
shall I know the loss of
children:

47:9 ‫תב ֹאנָה‬


ָ ‫ְו‬  ָ‫ּל‬ ‫ְׁש ֵּתי‬ ‫אֵ ּלֶ ה ־‬ ‫ֶרגַע‬ ‫ְּבים‬ ‫ְׁשכל אֶ ָחד‬ ‫מן‬
ֹ ‫ְואַ ְל‬

But these two [things]
u·thbane l·k shthi - ale rgo b·ium achd shkul u·almn shall come to thee in a
and·they-shall-come to·you two-of these moment in·day one bereavement and·widowhood moment in one day, the loss
of children, and
‫ְּכ ֻת ָּמם‬ ‫ָּבאּו‬  ִ‫עָ לַ י‬ ‫רב‬
ֹ ‫ְּב‬  ִ‫ְּכׁשָ פַ י‬ ‫ְּבעָ ְצ ַמת‬ widowhood: they shall
come upon thee in their

perfection for the multitude
as·flawlessness-of·them they-come on·you in·many-of enchantments-of·you in·staunchness-of

ֲ ‫ְמאֹד‬ : the great abundance of thine

47:10 ‫ַּת ְב ְט ִחי‬


ִ ‫ו‬ ‫ְב ָרעָ ֵת‬ ‫אָ ַמ ְר ְּת‬ ‫אֵ ין‬ ‫רֹאָ נִ י‬ ‫ָח ְכ ָמ ֵת‬

For thou hast trusted in
u·thbtchi b·roth·k amrth ain ra·ni chkmth·k thy wickedness: thou hast
and·you-are-trusting in·evil-of·you you-said there-is-no one-seeing·me wisdom-of·you said, None seeth me. Thy
wisdom and thy knowledge,
‫ְו ַד ְע ֵּת‬ ‫ׁשב ָב ֶת ִהיא‬
ְ ‫ֹאמ ִרי‬
ְ ‫וַּת‬ ‫ְב ִל ֵּב‬ ‫אֲנִ י‬ ‫ְואַ ְפ ִסי‬ it hath perverted thee; and
thou hast said in thine heart,
u·doth·k eia shubbth·k u·thamri b·lb·k ani u·aphs·i
I [am], and none else beside
and·knowledge-of·you she she-mturned-back·you and·you-are-saying in·heart-of·you I and·only·me
me.

ָ  ִ‫עָ לַ י‬ ‫ל ֹא ָרעָ ה‬ ‫ֵת ְד ִעי‬ ‫ׁשַ ְח ָרּה‬ ‫ְו ִתּפֹל‬  ִ‫עָ לַ י‬

Therefore shall evil come
u·ba oli·k roe la thdoi shchr·e u·thphl oli·k upon thee; thou shalt not
and·he-comes on·you evil not you-shall-know to-mearly-seek-of·her and·she-shall-fall on·you know from whence it riseth:
and mischief shall fall upon
‫הוָה‬
ֹ ‫ל ֹא‬ ‫תּוכ ִלי‬
ְ ‫ּכַ ְּפ ָרּה‬ ‫ְו ָתב ֹא‬  ִ‫עָ לַ י‬ ‫ִּפ ְתאֹם‬ ‫ׁשאָ ה‬ thee; thou shalt not be able
to put it off: and desolation

shall come upon thee
woe not you-shall-be-able to-mfind-shelter-of·her and·she-shall-come on·you suddenly devastation
suddenly, [which] thou shalt
not know.

47:12 ‫ִע ְמ ִדי‬ ‫נָא ־‬  ִ‫ח ָב ַרי‬


ֲ ‫ַב‬ ‫רב‬
ֹ ‫ּוב‬
ְ  ִ‫ְּכׁשָ פַ י‬ ‫ַּבאֲׁשֶ ר‬

Stand now with thine
omdi - na b·chbri·k u·b·rb kshphi·k b·ashr enchantments, and with the
stand-you ! please ! in·charms-of·you and·in·many-of enchantments-of·you in·which multitude of thy sorceries,
wherein thou hast laboured
‫ָיגַעַ ְּת‬  ִ‫עּורי‬
ָ ְ‫ִמּנ‬ ‫אּולַ י‬ ‫ּתּוכ ִלי‬
ְ ‫העיל‬
ִ ‫אּולַ י‬ from thy youth; if so be
thou shalt be able to profit,

if so be thou mayest prevail.
you-labored from·youths-of·you perhaps you-shall-be-able to-cbenefit-of perhaps

ִ ‫ַּתע‬ :

47:13 ‫נִ ְלאֵ ית‬ ‫רב‬


ֹ ‫ְּב‬  ִ‫עֲצָ ָתי‬ ‫יַעַ ְמדּו‬ ‫נָא ־‬

Thou art wearied in the
nlaith b·rb otzthi·k iomdu - na multitude of thy counsels.
you-are-tired in·many-of counsels-of·you they-shall-stand please ! Let now the astrologers, the

stargazers, the monthly
 ֻ‫יׁשיע‬
ִ ‫ְו‬ ‫ָה ְברּו‬ ‫ה ְב ֵרי‬
ֹ ‫ׁשָ ַמיִ ם‬ ‫ַהחֹזִ ים‬ prognosticators, stand up,
and save thee from [these

things] that shall come upon
and·they-shall-csave·you they-soothsay ones-soothsaying-of heavens the·ones-perceiving
thee.
‫ַּבּככָ ִבים‬ ‫יעם‬
ִ ‫מד‬
ִ ‫לֶ ח ֳָד ִׁשים‬ ‫ֵמאֲׁשֶ ר‬ ‫ָיבֹאּו‬  ִ‫עָ לָ י‬ :
b·kukbim mudiom l·chdshim m·ashr ibau oli·k :
in·the·stars ones-cinforming to·the·new-moons from·which they-are-coming on·you

47:14 ‫ִהּנֵה‬ ‫ָהיּו‬ ‫ְכ ַקׁש‬ ‫אֵ ׁש‬ ‫ְׂש ָרפָ ַתם‬ ‫י ִַּצילּו ־ ל ֹא‬ ‫־ אֶ ת‬

Behold, they shall be as
ene eiu k·qsh ash shrphth·m la - itzilu ath - stubble; the fire shall burn
behold ! they-become as·straw fire she-burns·them not they-shall-crescue » them; they shall not deliver
themselves from the power
‫נ ְַפׁשָ ם‬ ‫ִמּיַד‬ ‫אֵ ין לֶ ָה ָבה‬ ‫ַחלֶ ת ־‬
ֶ ‫ּג‬ ‫לַ ְח ָמם‬ ‫אּור‬ ‫לָ ׁשֶ ֶבת‬ of the flame: [there shall]
not [be] a coal to warm at,

[nor] fire to sit before it.

Thus shall they be unto
kn eiu - l·k ashr igoth schri·k m·nouri·k thee with whom thou hast
so they-became to·you whom you-labored ones-being-merchants-of·you from·youths-of·you laboured, [even] thy
merchants, from thy youth:
‫ִאיׁש‬ ‫ְלעֶ ְבר‬ ‫ָּתעּו‬ ‫אֵ ין‬  ֵ‫מׁשיע‬
ִ : ‫ס‬ they shall wander every one
to his quarter; none shall
aish l·obr·u thou ain mushio·k : s
save thee.
