Q1: a) prove that :

b) given a telephone line 100 km long, with Zo = 685-j92Ω, α=0.0049 neper/km, and
β=0.0349 rad/km. the line is terminated in Zr = 2000Ω.the generator has an emf of
10 Vrms and an internal impedance of 700Ω resistance. Determine:
1. The sending end impedance.
2. The magnitude of the sending end voltage and current.
3. The magnitude of the sending end voltage and current.

Q2: a) a voltage signal represented by x(t)=e-5t u(t) is applied to the input of an ideal low pass
filter. The low frequency gain of the filter is unity the bandwidth is 5 rad/sec and the
resistance levels are 50Ω.
1. Calculate the energy in the input signal and at the output signal.
2. Plot the magnitude spectrum of x(t).

Q3: a) Explain briefly how detect a large AM-DSB signal.
b) An AM-DSB transmitter produce a total output power of 70KW when modulated to
the depth of 80%, Determine:
1. The power of the carrier signal.
2. The transmitting efficiency.
3. The Max. Amplitude of the carrier signal over resistive load equal to 50Ω.
4. If the modulating signal reduced so that the total output power became 50KW, find
the modulation index and the transmitting efficiency.

Q4: a) Explain briefly the generation of NBFM signal.
b) An FM signal e(t)FM = 20 cos ( 2π107t + 6 sin 2π103t ) exist over resistive load equal
to 50Ω , Determine:
1. Total output power.
2. The amplitude of the third sideband.
3. The percentage power of fifth sideband to the total output power.
4. The Max. Frequency deviation.
5. The sensitivity constant of the modulating circuit.
6. The BW that need to transmit this signal.

1. Find the available noise power at the output of the receiver.
2. Find the necessary signal power at the antenna terminals such that the output SNR is
50dB . ( k=1.38*10-23 J/K)
