Chapter I

The Problem and Its Setting

Introduction

Transportation is very important in each stage of human

civilization. If the present means of transportation were

not developed, the situation of the world would be totally

different. Transportation has contributed much to the

development of economic, social, political and cultural

fields and uplifting their condition.

Speedy industrialization is impossible without

development of transportation. It is unavoidably necessary

to promote transport system for the proper development of

agricultural sector and rural areas. Without development of

transportation, neither mass production nor distribution is

possible. It supposed to be the most important aspect of

socio-economic development. In fact, the improvement of one

place starts from trading and transportation system.

Philippines is composed of mountainous area and

thousand scattered islands. Its development does not

continuous happening, because of its geographical

disadvantages. It affects the mode of communication and

transportation, the center of the government is far from

these regions, therefore, they were not able to pour their

immediate supports in terms of services pertaining to

livelihood, education, as well as their grievances and

overall problem of the community.

Bulacan is a province in the Philippines. It is located

in Central Luzon and just north of Metro Manila and shares

boundaries with Pampanga and Nueva Ecija in the north, and

Manila Bay on the south west.

Aircrafts are known as the fastest way of

transportation system. It serves as the gateway to the

investors who will be offers different works, to the

tourists who will be the cultivator inherent beauty of one

places and to the trade system by means of importing and

exporting products and goods.

Today, airport does not only serve as transportation but

also set as the primary appearance of a place which

symbolized and reflects the honor of the entire spots.

Whereas representing of one particular place, it is very

important to recognize its architectural character. Most of

the travelers are looking for something special and for

their good experience.

Since the Philippines is a tropical country, we are

suffering such different problems to temperature, humidity,

wind, sky condition, and ground condition. It essentially

need to provide an airport building which will response to

the tropical area difficulties.

The San Miguel Corporation’s proposed Bulacan

Airport, dubbed as the New Manila International Airport,

involves the construction of a brand-new international

airport and is being positioned as an alternative to the

congested NAIA in Manila. It has also been seen that the

four million tourists that visit the country yearly will be

tripled once the airport project proposal pushes through.

Nothing is more important to civilization than

communication, transportation and apart from direct tyranny

and oppression. Nothing is more harmful to the well-being of

a society than an irrational transportation system.

Climate
November to April is generally dry while wet for the

rest of the year. The northeast monsoon (amihan) prevails

from October to January bringing in moderated and light

rains. From February to April, the east trade winds

predominate but the Sierra Madre (Philippines) mountain

range to the east disrupts the winds resulting to a dry

period. From May to September, the southwest monsoon

(habagat).

The hottest month is May having an average temperature of

29.7 °C (85.5 °F) while the coldest is February with an

average temperature of 25.1 °C (77.2 °F).

Statement of the Problem

Philippines is a tropical country which has different

negative natural impacts due to its geographical aspect.

Being tropical climates area it is experiencing such

problems like high temperature levels, high humidity levels,

slow wind velocity, high precipitation levels, many typhoons

with high incidence, abundance of insect and rodents and

damp ground condition.

Being situated in the “Pacific Ring of Fire” makes it

vulnerable to frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.

Its geographical location and physical environment also

contributes to its high-susceptibility to tsunami, sea level

rise, storm surges, landslides, flood/flash flood, drought.

The study deals with the proposed international airport

in Bulacan. The researcher works to answer the following

question:

1. What are the facilities of domestic airport are needs

to provide?

2. How the proposed project will become resilient to the

problems of the tropical climates?

3. What are the technology innovation that maybe used to

the project?

4. What will be the materials use for the domestic

airport with its location?

Scope and Delimitation

The scope and delimitation section is deals about the

nature, coverage, and time frame of the study. The Scope of

study this research paper is contains the explanation of

what information or subject is being analyzed. It is

followed by an explanation of the limitation of the

research. Research usually limited in scope by sample size,

time and geographic area.

Scope

The main focus of this project was the architectural

design of a proposed international airport which is flexible

to the environment of Bulacan as tropical climates.  It is

also concentrate in design solution, architectural character

and the method of building design. The scope identifies the

boundaries of the study in term of subjects, objectives,

facilities, area, time frame, and the issues to which the

research is focused.

 Architectural plans (including site development plan,

floor plans, elevations, sections, and perspective)

 Site investigation (including maps, physical

features/profile of the site, civic analysis, soil

data, and its justification)

 Detail of environmental system (including drawing

layouts, material specification, application procedure)

 Space and staffing requirements (including spatial

identification and architectural programming)

Delimitation

Delimitation is not research contains or boundaries of

study which are not within the control of the researcher.

 Structural Plan & Details

 Sanitary Plan & Details

 Electrical Plan & Details

 Mechanical Plan & Details

Significance of the Study

The importance of this study is to create proposed

international airport of Bulakan, Bulacan, for the tourist

and guests, the citizens and to the municipality.

People/Beneficiaries - Besides to their products promotion

it also provides a source of income by selling products or

goods to outside and inside of the airports. Many citizens

will be given an opportunity to have works which are expert

in making souvenirs and other product from nature.

Tourists/Guests/investors

The importance of this study to the tourists, guests

and investors is faster transportation or easy access to the

Bulacan. In short time period from other places of our

country they will experience the wonderful scenery,

different tourist’s spots including land, rock, water, and

aquatic formations which provides relaxations, peace or

calmness, adventures and experiences.

Theoretical Framework

The research conceptual framework is about to create a

proposed international airport that response the problem of

a tropical climates. The proposed international airport of

Bulacan with the application of tropical design. The

building will design to be eco-friendly, shapes and

orientation to prevent destruction during the heavy typhoon

wind. It will provide faster system of transportation for

the tourists or guest, investors, and trading which serves

as the center of development of Bulacan for the improvement

and development of their economic growth.

The airport will provide proper facilities that

accommodate passengers and as a doorway it contains

architectural character though possession of the tourist to

in able introduce the culture and tradition of Bulacan. And

also provide proper facilities needed by the employee of

airport, tourists/visitors or travelers and vendors. To

build a landmark which symbolizes the City.
