Answer the following questions:

1. The Internet is the driving force behind developments in

telecommunications, networks, and other information technologies. Do you
agree or disagree? Why?

I agree, the internet is the reason these technologies exist, and it is the main reason for their
advancement. The internet allows people to easily research ideas and collaborate with others which
helps in the advancement of new technologies. Information is available to anyone with a computer and
a network connection, this allows average people to research and develop new ideas that could lead to
further technological advancement.

2. How is the trend toward open systems, connectivity, and

interoperability related to business use of the Internet, intranets, and
extranets?

In today’s world, more and more businesses are relying on the Internet, intranets and extranets. This
means that businesses are moving towards open systems, which allow businesses to easily establish
connectivity within their own organizations and enable communication with outside parties. Open
systems allow for easier collaboration between coworkers and the ability to multitask on different
projects using different applications at the same time.
3. Refer to the Real World Case on telemedicine and videoconferencing in
the chapter. Not mentioned in the case are implications for both privacy
and data security arising from the use of these technologies. Which specific
ones could arise as a result, and to what extent do you believe those would
inhibit the deployment of these advances?

Security is a huge concern; it is difficult to properly secure data so that no one is able to recover it. We
have heard multiple stories about credit card information being leaked to the public as well as private
photos and other confidential information. The lack of complete security is a huge risk and will
definitely inhibit the deployment of these advances. Cyber security advancements need to be put into
place before the advances can take place.

seems to be the difference between videoconferencing and telepresence?
