tears or permanent distortion.

6 DETAIL REQUIREMENTS
6.1 PREPREG

6.1.1 General

6.1.1.1 The prepreg shall possess a high degree of tack and drape sufficient to
ensure easy handling in routine fabrication procedures in the
temperature range of 65 to 77˚F.

6.1.1.2 The required tack shall allow the prepreg to adhere to itself during hand
lay-up to the extent that stripping a ply will not appreciably disturb the
previous ply. This degree of tack shall be exhibited for a minimum of 10
days at a temperature of +65˚ to +77˚F with a humidity of 55%
maximum.

6.1.1.3 The required drape shall allow the prepreg to be deformed or contoured
over or in a mold and to remain in this position without restraint.

6.1.1.4 The shelf life of the prepreg shall be a minimum of 180 days from date of
receipt at the purchaser’s destination, but not to exceed 210 days from
date of shipment.

6.1.1.5 The shop life shall be a minimum of 10 days when exposed to an

environment of +65 to +77˚F and a relative humidity of 55% maximum.

6.1.2 Physical

selvage areas, wrinkles, resin rich areas, or other defects detrimental to
handling, lay-up, or structural properties.

6.1.4.3 Visible indications of impurities, dry areas, areas of nonuniformity,

incomplete impregnation, cured resin, or localized colour differences in
the impregnated cloth shall be clearly identified as nonconforming areas.

6.1.4.3.1 Areas of nonconforming material shall be clearly marked on the edge of

the prepreg material at the start and the end of each defect. The type,
location and length of each defect shall be identified on a log defect sheet
for each roll on the release note.

6.1.4.3.2 The total maximum amount of nonconforming areas on each roll shall
not exceed 3% of the roll surface.

6.1.4.4 A maximum of 1.5 inches of selvage width on each side of the cloth shall
be permitted.

6.1.4.5 The alignment of the warp and fill yarns shall be perpendicular to each
other. All the warp and fill yarns of the preimpregnated fabric shall be
parallel to their respective direction to within 2 inches over the full
width, not including the selvage.
