Teaching Philosophy

Victoria Chong 4-8 Science Educator

I believe my role as an educator is to equip students with the skills, tools and resources they
need to add to their foundation of knowledge. As a teacher, it is my responsibility to cultivate
and foster students’ passions through discovering their purpose. I strongly believe the
overarching goal of learning is to go beyond the content mastery and apply the lessons you
have learned to solve the problems of tomorrow. I aspire to help students achieve this and
provide them with the resources and tools they need to reach their dreams and goals.

My decision to become a teacher was influenced by my love for teaching others and joys of
impacting students in a positive way. Teaching is the only career field that lays the
foundational work for all other professions to exist. It was this sense of purpose and the
profound possibilities of change that drew me to working with students.

My teaching style is student centered and student driven. Teaching and learning is not a one-
size fits-all approach. I believe students learn best when the material and content is
personalized and differentiated to meet their various needs. Students should be at the
forefront of their learning and be able to take ownership over what they do and learn. I want
students to understand why they are learning the material, and the importance behind the
content. I also believe it is essential for students to be in collaborative learning environments.
As an educator, it is my job to foster these collaborative spaces for students to work together
in discovering new knowledge.

Students deserve to feel welcomed, safe and comfortable in class and I am dedicated to
making this become a reality. I believe that building classroom community and working
student-to-teacher relationships are vital in establishing trust and safety within the
classroom. In addition, I believe that the partnerships between students, parents, school staff
and community members are essential for a child's success.

Teaching is a wonderful field full of amazing students and educators! I am thrilled to be

joining countless other teaching professionals in equipping students to take on the challenges
of tomorrow.
