1. Richard needs to call his classmates to give them final instructions about their class
project. He thinks he will need about 2 minutes to talk to each one of them. If his
cellular phone has a current load worth Php 425 and a call would cost him Php 6.15
per minute, how many of his classmates will he be able to talk to?
Given:
2 minutes – average time to talk
Php 425 – current load
Php 6.15/minute

Solution:
Php 6.15 × 2 minutes= Php 12.30 per classmate
Php 425/12.30= 34.55

Therefore, Richard will be able to talk to 34 classmates.

2. John drove his car to the gas station for refueling. If the price of the gasoline is Php
38.31 per liter and he paid Php 1000 for gas purchase, how many liters of gasoline
were pumped into his car? Round off the answer to the nearest thousandths (or
three decimal places).

Given:
Php 38.31 per liter
Php 1000 gas purchase

Solution:
1000/38.31= 26.102

Therefore, 26.102 liters of gasoline were pumped into his car.

3. If the old price of a product is PhP100 and the new price is Php 500, what is the
percentage increase in the price?
Given:
Php 100 – old price
Php 500 – New price
Solution:
R=P/B
R= 500/100 × 100
R= 5 × 100
R= 500%

Therefore, 500% is the increase in the price.

4. Manuel agrees to lend you money for a monthly interest of 12%. How much will you
pay nhim next month if you borrowed Php 500?
Given:

Therefore, I will pay Manuel Php 560 next month.

5. A gadget costs Php 2000 before the 12% VAT. How much is the total cost of the
gadget after VAT?
Given:
