FABRIC

You will need either a piece of good quality cotton muslin. You can purchase this from the
embroidery store online or source it locally:

What to look for:

The fabric should have a very close weave and little or no stretch in it.

Here are some suggestions:

Rockland Supreme 200 count muslin
Kona Premium 200 count muslin
Southern Belle 200 count muslin

If you cannot source any of the above cotton muslins purchase a pillowcase that is made of 200 count
cotton or percale and cut a piece from this.

It is not recommended that you use a counted thread fabric like that used for cross stitch or a cotton/linen
with a loose weave as this will not be suitable.

1. Wash and iron the fabric to remove marks and creases.

2. Overcast the edges or use fray stop liquid to prevent fraying (optional)
3. Transfer the outline on to the fabric.

TRANSFER THE OUTLINE

The easiest way to do this is to purchase an iron on transfer from the Embroidery shop online.
This will give you a crisp outline that is accurate and clear.

If you prefer to trace your own outline here are the directions.

1. Cut a piece of fabric approx 30 x 30cm.

2. Iron the fabric to remove creases.
3. Print out the tracing outline provided in the pattern.
4. Tape the outline to a window or light box.
5. Tape the fabric on top of this - ensure the outline is centered on the fabric.
6. Take an HB pencil and trace over the outlines that show through the fabric.

EMBROIDERY HOOP

You will need a supergrip hoop such as the Susan Bates/

Hoopla hoop shown right. Wooden hoops will not grip
your fabric tightly enough but can be used for framing
the completed embroidery if desired.
