We can make cleanliness campaign effective by keeping our home clean, by


throwing trash in school waste bins, by keeping school washrooms clean and by
guiding people not to throwgarbage in the streets.

5) Imagine how your country will look if this campaign is successful. Write a
paragraph about it.

If this campaign is successful, our country will become environment friendly


because it will look clean and green. People will be healthier than before and
conditions will be improved for everyone. Plantation of trees will also help in
reduction of environmental pollution.

The hardware is our physique or our appearance and the software is our inner self
or the way we think and feel.

3)What does maintenance of a healthy hardware involve?

The maintenance of a healthy hardware involves right kind of food.It includes


food from all the nutrient groups such as fruit, vegetables, dairy products ,dry
fruit and meat etc.

4)What problems does an unhealthy lifestyle cause?

Unhealthy lifestyle cause many problems.Eating too much food will result in
weight gain, diseases like diabetes,heart problem and joint pains.Eating too little
food leads to weight loss and causes disease like Anemia.

5)Enlist positive and negative thoughts from the lesson.

Some positive thoughts are praise,acceptance and tolerance towards


others.Negative thoughts include jealousy,guilt,fear and making excuses.

We can keep our inner self clean and healthy by avoiding negative thoughts like
jealousy, guilt, fear and making excuses. We must develop positive thoughts such
as praise, acceptance and tolerance towards others.

It is not easy to keep healthy living in routine because it requires a lot of hard
work as old habits die hard. Sometimes food available is of low quality and we
lack enough time for exercise.

If I lived back in history

Living back in history is an amazing experience. I was lying on my bed in


pensive mood. Suddenly I found myself in the court of Akbar-e-Azam, the great
Mughal ruler .It was a splendid hall in which a large number of people were sitting
obediently. There was a pin drop silence. In the meanwhile I heard a loud
announcement that king was about to reach in the court .All the people stood up
in respect of the King. The King was wearing beaded robe and a beautiful crown
embedded with rubies and emerald. He was accompanied by a train of guards.
Suddenly a prisoner was brought forth in front of him. A verdict was
announcedand he was sentenced to death. His begging and wailing made me
wake up from my dream. I told my dream to my mother and went to school with
a heavy heart.

1) Who were the people of the cave and what was their era?

They were young Muslim men from the era of Christ.

2) How long did they sleep and why were they not awakened?

They slept for three hundred and nine years. They were not awakened
because Allah willed them to sleep for so long and they were not disturbed by
the gust of wind, rumble of thunder and rays of sunlight.

3) How was their long slumber revealed to their countrymen?

Their long slumber was revealed to their countrymen when they went outside
the cave to buy food using outdated silver coins.

Allah Almighty has kept the story of the people of the cave alive to this day so
that those seeking the truth can be guided.

The Clever Fox

Once there was a fox. He was very hungry. He went out in search of food. At last,
he reached in a garden. There he saw a bunch of grapes. His mouth began to
water. He jumped up to get them but the grapes were too high. He could not
reach them. He jumped up again and again but failed. At last, he went away
saying, “ The grapes are sour. I don’t need to reach them.”

Moral: Grapes are sour.

School serves as the foremost learning place for all .My school is also a source of
great inspiration for me .I read in Islamabad Model College/school For Girls/Boys
.It has a grand building along with spacious play ground. The building is H –
shaped with a big Hall in the center .It has about thirty rooms ,which are all airy
and well –lightened.All of them are decorated with charts , maps and
pictures.There are many laboratories which provide opportunity for the students
to perform practical . The school is divided in to two sections i-e Senior and
Junior. The teachers are well trained, professional and competent. There are
separate canteens for each sections. It has a green area which has numerous
plants and flowers which enhance its beauty. Our Principal is a well qualified lady/
gentleman and well observant who vigilantly keeps an eye on every matter of the
institution. The college shows excellent results every year. I love my school very
much.

Unit # 6 The sweating Earth


Q #1. Answer these Questions:

1) What are fossil fuels and how are they being used?
Fossil fuels are natural fuels like coal, gas and oil formed from the remains
of living organisms. They are used in homes, transport and industry to
provide energy.
2) What were the happy times for the planet Earth?
It was a happy time for the planet Earth when life started growing in its
oceans, in the mountains and on the land. Beautiful forms of life came into
being and made the planet Earth their home.
3) What will happen if water level rises in the oceans?
If water level rises in oceans then the human life will be destroyed. In
addition, melting ice will also deprive animals and plants of their homes on
the two poles.
4) What are the adverse eeffecs of temperature rise on North and South
Poles?
Both North and South Poles are badly affected by changing temperatures of
Earth. The most rapid harmful effects of global warming are melting icecaps
and glaciers.
5) Is man a good planner ? Do you agree or not? Give three reasons to support
your answer.
I think man is not a good planner because of the following reasons.
a. He is making development without thinking about the future of Earth.
b. He is cutting forests without planting new trees.
c. He has polluted water and air with harmful gases that is damaging the
planet Earth.
6) Why do you think Earth is sweating in the picture above? Explain briefly.
Earth is sweating because of global warming and increase in temperature.
This is due to several types of pollution resulting in the destruction of
ozone layer.

Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah was born in Karachi on 25th December,


1876.His father was a rich merchant and he gave his promising son a good
education. At the age of sixteen, Muhammad Ali went to England to study law.
Four years later, he set up as a lawyer in Bombay. In 1900, Mr. Jinnah acted as a
Magistrate. He became the president of the Muslim League in 1934. The Muslims
of India united under his dynamic leadership and called him the Quaid-e-Azam
that means ‘ The Great Leader’. After several years of hard work, he forced the
British and the Hindus to agree to the division of India. So through his efforts
Pakistan was formed on 14th August, 1947. He became the first Governor General
of this greatest Muslim country in the world. He was then seventy years of age,
but he had to work very hard to build up the new state. This hardwork told upon
his health and he died on 11th September, 1948.He is certainly a role model for us.

Once there lived a hare and a tortoise in a forest. The hare was very proud of his
speed. He used to make fun of tortoise for being too slow . One day the tortoise
challenged the hare for a race .The hare accepted the challenge. The race started.
The hare ran very fast .The tortoise was left much behind. The hare got tired and
stopped to have some rest under a tree. He fell asleep. The tortoise passed him
and reached the winning post. The hare woke up and ran as fast as he could. He
saw that the tortoise was already at the winning post .The tortoise had won the
race.

Moral :”Slow and steady wins the race”.

1) Make a list of the dangers which mountaineers have to face while climbing
the mountains.
Mountaineers face many dangers while climbing the mountains. It includes
avalanches, crevasses, fatigue and coldness.
2) Write a paragraph about the successes of SaminaBaig?
SaminaBaig is the first Pakistani mountaineer who climbed seven highest
peaks of the world including the Mount Everest. She did this at the age of
twenty three years within a record time of fourteen months. She made a
mark in the history of adventure by her thrilling success.
3) How can we help our siblings?
We can help our siblings by motivating, encouraging and supporting them
to achieve their aims, so that they can become successful persons in life.
4) How would you make your country proud of yourself when you grow up?
We can make our country proud of ourselves by working with devotion,
dedication and honesty for the well being and prosperity of it.

Q # 6 Write a story on the topic “The Ant and the Spider”.

Once upon a time there was an ant. This ant was the bravest ant in the
entire world. Whenever other ants went out to collect food for the day it would
be at the front of the line, clearing a path for them. Lizards , bugs and birds were
never a match for its bravery. It would charge them, engage them in battle and
defeat them. One day while clearing a path for the other ants , the brave ant
came upon a very patient spider who had weaved a web in their usual path . The
ant came near the spider and declared, “I am the bravest ant, flee from this path
or face my wrath !”The spider replied that it will not move its web from that place
as there were plenty of things to eat. He further said that his web is quite small
and the ants can shift their lines a bit. The brave ant grew angry and climbed on
top of the rock and shouted that it will not move the line. On the denial of the
spider the ant leaped from the rock and jumped towards the patient spider. The
spider caught the brave ant and made it his first meal.

freezing coldduring winter and sweltering heat in summer season.

both places?

In our city, Islamabad, the weather is temperate and it is not as harsh as it


is in Thar. In Thar the winters are freezing and the summers are sweltering.
Islamabad is rich in greenery whereas the landscape of Thar comprises of
shrubs and sand dunes.
