activities like measuring,
Class Profile  75% of students are ELL
 2 students with one-on-one support

Big Idea(s)
(Science) - Plants and animals have observable features

(Mathematic) - Objects have attributes that can be described, measured, and compared

(Language Arts) - Curiosity and wonder lead us to new discoveries about ourselves and
the world around us

Curriculum Competencies

(Science) - Make simple measurements using non-standard units

(Mathematic) – Estimate reasonably

(Language Arts) – Use language to identify, create, and share ideas, feelings, opinions,
and preferences

Content

(Mathematic) – Direct comparative measurement

(Language Arts) – Strategies and processes (reading strategies)

Learning Students will be able to

Objectives  Predict the size and length using their assumption
 Share their process using words
First Peoples Learning is holistic, reflexive, reflective, experiential, and relational
Principles (focused on connectedness, on reciprocal relationships, and a sense
of place.)

Materials and Equipment Needed for this Lesson

 Diagram of a dinosaur’s foot on a large piece of paper (3.3 feet long and 1.55

Ask questions:
- Why do you think George said the tracks were from
dinosaurs?

Transition
- Show the paper with a track and let students guess
which animal created the track.

2 Presentation Dinosaur Track 3-5 min

- Estimate how many shoes we need to cover the
entire part of the dinosaur’s footprint
(Put my shoe first and let them observe)

3 Practice and - Students sit in a circle, footprint in the middle, and 15-20 min
Production take their shoes off. Each student put one shoe at a
time while counting.
- When completed, ask students why we can’t see 3-5 min
dinosaurs anymore.

- Students go back to their table and write/draw on 10-15 min

the worksheet “If the dinosaurs came back…”

4 Closure Gallery Walk 3-5 min

-Students go around and observe what others wrote
for the worksheet

Assessment/  Write a few notes when students share their thoughts

Evaluation of  Take videos of students explaining their work
Students’ Learning

For ELL students  Provide images of dinosaurs for a better understanding

 Invite ELL students to the rainbow table, where students
usually get help, to have an extra support with the activity
