Career Research Essay

My chosen Career is Civil engineering. Civil engineering has been around just about

forever. “Can be dated to the first time someone placed a roof over his or her head or laid a tree

trunk across a river to make it easier to get across” (What is Civil Engineering). I’m really

interested in it because I want to be able to design things and figure out how to build them.

There are approximately 310,000 people employed in some type of civil engineering.

There is a high demand for civil engineers. Most civil engineering jobs are in California and it’s

most likely from the population and need for it. As a civil engineer you design things such as

bridges and roads, your main goal is to just make sure everything is safe and working right, they

also work around 40 hours week (Occupational Employment Statistics).

To become a civil engineer there isn’t any set age and long as you have the education and

experience. Gender also doesn’t matter; you just have to know what your doing. In this field of

work, you must be able to work with others and you can’t slack because sometimes you are

designing something important and if you mess it up it could cause a lot of problems. The best

way to become a civil engineer is just go to college and get a degree (Education for Civil

Engineers).

Civil engineers can earn a lot of money. They start off earning around $46,920 which is

good. The average pay is $74,780 and a good salary is around $123,350 (Civil engineer salary in

Georgia). These are very good payouts since most expenses for this career will be on college

especially if you really go forward with it.

There are tons of colleges that offer civil engineering, but a few are Georgia Institute of

Technology, Auburn University, Kennesaw State University, and the University of Georgia.

After you do four years of college you can go into the military and then from there they can learn

how to repair and maintenance large equipment. There are tons of scholarships you can get

depending on where you go. A few universities that can give scholarships are University of

Kentucky College of Engineering, University of Minnesota Department of Civil Engineering,

South Dakota State University, and Purdue University School of Civic Engineering

(Scholarships For Civil Engineering Students).

Apart from the good salary civil engineers can have good benefits as well. “Civil

Engineers generally receive excellent benefit packages, including health and life insurance,

vacation, sick leave, and pension plans (Civil Engineers in Stanislaus County). Although the

benefits can be good there are a lot of hazards. These include falling, electrocution from live

wires, getting hit with heavy equipment, extreme temperatures, and exposure to noxious gases.

After you work in an entry level position for a while you can move on to something you

could specialize in. If you were to do this, you would probably need more training and get more

work, but it would be worth it. I think it would be important to continue our dictation for this

career because it could open more possibilities for you.

I want to pursue a career in civil engineering. One reason I like this career is that it’s cool

to me that I can help build and deign things. I also really enjoy math and I know I will be using it

a lot. I know it will be hard to complete school for this, but it seems very worth it with the

benefits I can get from it. I know I will enjoy it no matter for what and I can’t wait.

There a many different types of scholarships. There are private sector scholarships which

is provided by companies that deal in that type of work. Then there’s school scholarships

that are provided for some students that attend that school.
