InTASC Standard #3: Learning Environment

“The teacher works with others to create environments that support individual and collaborative
learning, and that encourage positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-
motivation.”

Part of being comfortable in the setting I was in, was also helping the students gain

comfortability being in the classroom and building a positive classroom community. This

includes building classroom rapport and positive relationships with students, staff, and faculty. I

believe offering a positive, trustworthy, and safe environment for the students allows them to

become more engaged in the content being taught. In one of the first lessons Mrs. Weiss taught,

we learned about rules and responsibilities in our community. We extended this lesson by talking

about the significance of creating a constructive classroom environment where everyone

followed the same rules and regulations. The students had the opportunity to state what they

wanted the rules for our classroom to be. Students talked about being safe by wearing masks,

sanitizing, and keeping a safe distance between their classmates.
