THEME and OBJECTIVE:

Noise and vibrations in the rotating machines are always unwanted because of their
adverse effect on the machine components as well as on overall performance of the man
and machine. Abnormal vibrations of the machine cause fatigue failure of the machine
elements and looseness of the fasteners, which in turn may lead to catastrophic failure
of the machine and subsequent shut down of the process. It is therefore essential to
maintain the machinery vibrations within the permissible limit. Many times vibrations and
noise of a machine are interrelated and tackled parallelly.
AICTE SPONSORED Periodical monitoring of noise and vibration helps to evaluate the health condition of the
One week machine .In the event of abnormal vibrations and noise of machine, vibration and noise
SHORT TERM TRAINING PROGRAMME analysis is carried out to pinpoint the root cause of vibration and noise. Sophisticated
instruments for vibration and noise monitoring and analysis are available in the market.

analysis and fault diagnosis. Vibration and noise are reduced by rectifying the faults
NOISE AND VIBRATION CONTROL OF INDUSTRIAL ROTARY MACHINES detected in the diagnosis procedure. In-situ balancing, aligning the shafts of prime mover
15th to 20th March 2021 and machine, rectification or replacement of bearings etc are the ways to control the
machinery vibration. The objective of this STTP is to provide technical knowhow about
control of noise and vibrations of rotary machines used in industries, to PG and doctoral
ORGANISED BY students, faculty members and engineering professionals.
